So I just found out right now, that while I was suffering chest/lung allergies and watching the Bling Ring last night my friend got shot twice during a home invasion. We have the same birthday exactly, which is coincidental but means nothing. Reports are vague, but it is assumed that some tweekers or drug addicts cased the place (or got into some tiff previously) with my friends who live there and came in with a handgun and were trying to rob them. One of my friends was awoken to a gun to his head and then the other friend came to tackle them down and took multiple shots to the chest. I assume the safe one is under wraps at the police station being interrogated like a criminal. My other friend is undergoing surgery right now and was in stable but critical condition before.
The 2 robbers were ski masked and saying they were cops. It's unclear what all happened but I do know that people smoke weed and hangout there all the time. So the cops/news are claiming that it was a criminal activity thing gone wrong. The laws on weed in California aren't perfect here so it's a bit confusing with federal law and medicinal use etc. (I had another friend get his house raided even though he was all in legal bounds of CA law).

oh man, that sounds really rough. I hope your friends (both the one dealing with cops and the one dealing with bullets) come out of it ok

Thanks. Matters like this makes me lean more towards legalizing weed, because it would undoubtedly prevent shit like this from happening from mostly normal and civil people.

The part that gets me is that these guys are gonna be treated like crap in media or in the cops mind just cause they were smoking weed. All kinds of people do that and somehow people still think of it as like some kind of thing done by criminals. I believe that eventually weed will be considered and people will think about it like they do about alcohol or caffeine now (especially since it's significantly safer than alcohol) but it's annoying it hasn't happened yet. I don't know if legalization will cause that or cause backlash or whatever though

Wait did I miss something? Why did you mention your birth dates? Was there some reason for mentioning that or did you just randomly throw that in there?

the birthday thing was a classic charlieism

Hope your friends are alright.
With that being said, the irony of them watching The Bling Ring while getting robbed is inescapable.

Oh. Well that's much less ironic. Still hope your friends are alright, though!

Beach Police Chief Rob Handy said officers "observed evidence of criminal activity" in the home, later describing the evidence as drugs and U.S. currency.
wtf, cash is now considered "criminal activity"? God I hate it when cops exaggerate things. Hope your friend recovers, if he does fine he'll have some pretty serious scars to show for it.

I don't understand why police would barge in with ski masks on...isn't that the worst possible way to let people know that they're with the law? I thought robbers and ski masks were almost synonymous with each other. Its not surprising some people might defend themselves instinctively like that.

Damn that sucks. Was probably a bad idea for your friend to try to attack two armed robbers while being unarmed himself. Your stuff is never worth your life.

They weren't police, they were impersonating police.

So I guess his surgery(ies) went well and he just posted on FB 25min ago. Shot a handful of times and fuck you Mike I'm getting better fast though guys keep me in your prayers and hearts
(I'm Mike btw)
I was talking to his gf earlier and she was needing help with a ride to a pick a part for a starter, and asking about women's shelters. I guess since the house is a crime scene, shit gets kinda messy.

Yea, I assume there is a lot of blood around and bullet forensics going on. And since they are claiming criminal activity they probably tearing the house to pieces as well. Sucks. My other friend Joe, who was in the video had to get some jail pants because his were all covered in blood when they took him in. I wonder if they even let them get clothes and other necessities out.

damn, that's such a mess Sounds like the cops are looking to get your friend(s) into more trouble than the robbers right off the bat....
|
I was just reading through my friend's facebook and he was looking for a place to stay and he couldn't get around because they wouldn't let him get his bike or anything.

This is really sad. I hope your friend recovers strong.
That said, this sounds really extreme to be over weed, especially in CA.

I think he's doing ok, but everyone else who lived there is kinda fucked off right now by the investigation.
