I'm just going to get whats on my mind out. I have played bw/sc2 for quite a while. More than half my life. (I'm 25). Back in brood war I used to love laddering the begining of the season. I had a chance to play people I idolized in the game. I played NonY multiple times on iCCup. I lost all of them but I played the person I watched win I believe Cloud tournement in a pvp finals and get second in a courage tournament. Shit I even copied his 10/15 gate from courage.
But now laddering is different. I don't feel like I did back in brood war. I don't get that chance to play those players because of mmr. I don't get to win a bunch of games before getting to my iccup level. (This is key because people who are up n comers can have enjoyment AND competition) I don't have the fun and enjoyment that I once had. I lost all what I enjoyed in ladder.
Laddering then was better in other ways as well. Once you reached B-, you had to win more at that level in order to move up. when you lost you lost 125 points and won was +100 (+130 motw but lets not go there) if the ranks were the same. What this did was if you decided to flip a coin and cheese every game you would not be able to get to the top of the ladder. (Unless you were OctoberZerg. Firebats are great). Therefor, you had for the most part standard play on the top of ladder. Now it feels like anyone can mass game and reach gm playing with cheese builds. There are people on the top 100 of ladder with a win percentage of 55% or less. I feel like if they go 55% that they don't deserve to be up there.
Anyways thats my 2 bits,
