So I got demoted.
That stung. It's happened before though, and I managed to climb my way back into Gold. So when it happened again, I sighed a heartfelt sigh and hit the ladder. Climb the mountain, chop chop, dig dig. This time, however, I didn't get back in after 4 games. In fact I've played a lot more than that and I'm still in Silver. Which started to annoy me. Yes, silver's meant to be kinda big, but if the stated aim at the beginning of HOTS (8% Bronze, 20% Silver, 32% Gold, 20% Plat, 18% Diamond, 2% Masters) is true, the I should be in gold again, cos the bottom of gold is actually lower than it was.
Then I found out about Nios.kr, and my view changed rather hugely.
If what I read is correct, the bronze league takes up 37.28% of the population. This encompasses what is meant to be Bronze and Silver and a good 10 percentiles into Gold. Silver takes up about 28%. This puts top Silver into what is meant to be low Plat.
That's crazy. That means that if these numbers are accurate, I was mid to high Gold, and I'm now in Silver and it's going to be a long struggle to get any higher.
Even scarier, what is top Gold now is the 80th to 84th percentile. That's what's meant to be low Diamond.
I can see how this might be a good idea. Make Plat and above a real achievement, and then it becomes a real accomplishment to get into Masters. The problem is that those of us who are in the lower leagues pretty much all just got dropped a league and it stings. What stings more is that it's not going to be all that easy to climb out again. I know ladder ranking is not meant to mean anything, but it really does.
Oh well, time to try and climb the mountain again...

Maybe blizzard should make a new league above the highest league and delete the lowest ranked league every season. Then everyone can feel good.

So it'll just be even more of an accomplishment once you make it.

True. I was just hoping to make it to plat at some point before LotV comes out.
It's a good point though. I will probably still ladder. I just need to find a fresh source of motivation, as promotion isn't nearly as likely as it once was...

Blizzard should bring back the old brood war ladder rankings.

They should use Glicko, it's just a better version of ELO, which is what Brood War had

Don't you mean make a new league lower than the lowest and delete the highest league?

those statistics mean nothing
bronze has always been big because loads of people start laddering then quit, not wanting to spend all the time required to get good at the game
what's made you drop a league is everyone getting better
edit: oh and the players that are considered for the 8% 20% 32% thing are only the active players, all those bronze players are inactive

MMR Decay destroyed most people's progress if they were inactive for 1-2 seasons. Good luck getting back up to your top ranking lol.

MMR decay has ruined the game for me completely.

Yeah. Nothing like going from top 8 diamond to getting placed in silver.

I have gotten demoted from diamond 4 times and I keep crawling back, and now I'm under 50% winrate, I just hope I can get good enough to stay in diamond, I feel like I'm climbing a mountain where it's raining and I'm busting my ass to get to the halfway rest point.

How about playing the game for what it is? Would you feel better if they added the Copper league back?
|
they said they are looking at the ladder now according to a blue post on b.net forum
|
That would mean I'm kind of a good Starcraft player because I'm low diamond after playing 8 matches and winning 7 of them? LOL.

This is a fantastic way to remove the feeling of noobness from being 1 or 2 leagues below where you used to be.
