The sponsor logo thing is beyond silly, but we experienced some similar issues with virtual jersey to the point where I just had my artist use logos from around the web in a monochrome colour scheme for visibility.

Teams can be pretty aloof and it is not always easy to work with them on something. It is part of the reason I hesitated to pursue that course of action in the first place. When I first started sending out emails to teams to request logos to implement into GameHeart I received very few responses. Mostly teams do not come around until one of their players is in a tournament that uses GameHeart and they realize their logo could be there and isn't. But of course by that point it is too late for me to add it for that tournament.

Yeah it's particularly stupid since we've been struggling with this idea of sponsor ROI for a while and this along with virtual jersey is the 2nd solution to come along which has not received the necessary support from teams for no good reason at all.

I know this is going to sound like typical Starcraft 2 forum nonsense but seriously - if teams do this, bulldoze the sponsors.

As teams, they have a requirement to market themselves, as you know yourself, TB. It takes five minutes to send over a few gifs or pngs for integration into virtual jerseys or for Gameheart.

It's complete nonsense.

Well to be clear I wasn't asking teams to send in logos or anything. I just wanted someone to weigh in and say 'yeah this would be great for us' or 'honestly this won't make as much of a difference as you might think.' Even if they had responded saying it would be great I don't know if I would have gone through with the team sponsors. But I certainly am not going to do it without someone at least acknowledging that it wouldn't be a waste of time.

I knew I was stirring the pot a bit with those comments in the blog (obviously) but that is sort of the point. I can't honestly expect team managers to be scouring my blog word for word in case I might have some opportunity for them. But I asked if anybody involved with these teams, whether managers or players or whatever would weigh in and I didn't get a single response. You might say 'well why not email them?' because to be perfectly honest teams rarely ever respond to emails. When I was emailing teams asking for logos I got like two responses. When I made a reddit post about it I got a flood. They just don't seem to check their email or they at least ignore anything they don't immediately recognize.

Of course having their sponsor logos in the game would be good for them. But what does that matter to me? I want to know whether it is genuinely a worthwhile endeavor or if the impact would be so small that it isn't worth the effort.

It's strange how teams behave. I heard that face to face meetings play a big role but I guess travelling to an event just for that is not an option...
Anyway, good luck with the project

I do think that having forcefields coloured will at least help the new comers to know who casted it.
not to mention it will greatly help in PvP.

the only concern is that will it look out of place if the coloring is too strong.
right now they are looking a bit weird (the screen shots I mean), maybe just some coloring at the end of the forcefields would be enough

I definitely think that function over form is king when it comes to eSports viewership. Anything that helps people more accurately assess the battle and who did what is a good thing and it would certainly help the casters too.

There is so much sexiness attached to this post I can't even begin to say how much I like the idea that you've put forward. I hope that the project will flourish and that all your goals will be met.

I think colored force fields are good idea because players themselves remember where they placed FF and for how long it will stay up, on the other hand spectator has no clue which are who's, at least in some cases and in general it will improve viewing experience.

I'm a fan of your project. Gameheart and its development is a vital component of our esports infrastructure, and I wish it would receive more financial support from organizations. This is an issue I've already brought up with several parties and maybe against my better judgment I still hope it eventually catches on. As you know we posted a newspost about your fundraiser, and feature all your updates. I really want GameHeart to succeed.

However, I do not think it is very considerate to portray myself and others as team owners who do not care about your ideas, as a default result of not reading your previous update. It is safe to say that not everyone in the industry reads your updates, nor should you expect them to. I don't see any messages from you reaching out to ask for my thoughts. If you don't want to reach out to anyone that is fine, but in that case don't make it sound like nobody cares. If you shoot me a PM I will give you a list of emails you can reach out to. Your idea to incorporate team sponsors into GameHeart is great and I fully support it.

I think as soon as people are playing Gameheart and see TL logos on it, then every team will be contacting him asking if theres can be added :D

In case anyone is curious I have removed my comments about the team sponsor logos from the blog and apologized to Nazgul because he is not wrong. I knew I was being antagonistic in my comments and while that does come from a place of frustration with teams in the past, his organization and many others were not the cause of those frustrations and it is not fair and certainly not professional of me to take those frustrations out on them like this.

This is a comprehensive guide to determine which Starcraft spells should be modified with the player colours.

  • If the GameHeart interface is extended to 2v2, then some spells that are comprehensible in a 1v1 game become harder to determine which player casted them. A good example would be Revelation, which can only be casted on enemy structures or units, however with a double Protoss team, either of them could have casted it.

  • Would it be possible to create a test map that allows spell colour saturation and transparency to be adjusted in game. It would allow testers to determine what effects work best and they could forward you their results to build a consensus.

  • Another area possibly in need of player specific colouring are beam weapon effects as they can be difficult to determine who is firing. The Colossus would be the main candidate for this change as late game PvP engagements can be incomprehensible. Other contenders are the Sentry, Void Ray and Archon.

Jesus iHiro. You are a champ. This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for, and I agree with all of your picks with maybe the exception of heal on the medivac which I don't see any reason to colorize.

Regarding your comments at the end:

Unfortunately a map like that would not be possible using the current method I am planning to use to colorize these effects and I have not thought of another way to do it yet. But if we do find another way to do it perhaps that map may become possible. We are still exploring it.

I have considered the colossus attack in particular and may give colorizing that a shot. The main difficulty is making these things happen only for observers. Colorizing effects is not a challenge, just making it so the players don't see it is.

fungal and binding cloud should be needed, especially fungal because at the very least, it will make the roach infestors engagement a lot more clear on what's happening (especially since fungal covers up part of the coloring on the roach)

I read through iHiros post and I agree with pretty much everything.

Another idea I had about forcefields/fungals and similar:
Is there some way to build in a visual clue about when they're going to time out?
The most basic would be a timer bar but that's probably too invasive (especially with a lot of force field).

If it's possible to get a pulsating animation like in iHiro's gifs, maybe make them pulsate faster as time elapses?

Suggestion: Is it possible for you to make a toggle for spectators to see whether a building has been placed correctly or whether there is a gap between buildings(i.e: to see if the players wall of is tight or not)? I know you have bigger issues atm, but this would be a sweet feature to add.
