So, I've recently been reading a book about being a better man, and one of the things suggested in the book is for more cerebral guys that doing some hands on DIY stuff to your home or car is a great way to fulfill needs a man experiences that would otherwise go unfulfilled in a more urbane environment.
As I'm about to get a new(er) car, I thought this would be a great time to mess around with my old car as it really can't hurt the resale value much (it's a pile) and I don't own a home yet.
I know next to nothing about cars in general besides the basics every driver needs to know (how to change oil, fluids, wipers, tires, etc). I'm looking for some decent videos of restorations of cars that I can watch for entertainment and education (not necessarily both, but that would be nice!). My dad used to watch shows on TV where they would buy a junk car, strip some unwanted parts, replace them with some slightly upgraded ones, and sometimes resell the car. Some where really baller and compltely overhauled the entire car (more common with classic cars/trucks if I recal) and I remember I really liked them as a kid. I can't imagine these type of videos aren't at least semi-popular, but I don't know where to find them.
So, gearheads of TL, I'm hoping you can help me out! Thanks for any help. Looking forward to reading/watching the replies!
think about taking a short course at a local college. i mean, those guys on tv didnt learn from youtube, right? theres a bit more to automotive engineering than just bolting crap together. plan on doing exactly that myself in a couple years when my life gets settled down. great hobby to be working with your hands.
This seems to be a product placement channel selling cleaning products :/
What I'm looking for is more along the lines of this:
Now, this is a full resto, and I'm looking for something more along the lines of a guy buying a used car, picking out some things to improve, and making a project out of it, although cleaning tips are really a big help for a used car!
I am using that as a guide for my restoration - he is doing a lot of "let's do ____" videos. He's even restoring an old 55 Austin-Healey with his wife iirc, that has a very in depth video on restoration.
I know you said you aren't looking to restore a classic car or anything but the same general concept applies - TMBR has links on how to restore a car that you need to have driving the next morning, which sounds like it's more what you want to do.
Otherwise, you kind of have to learn by doing! Find a website/forum for the car you have and just soak up information - lots of car forums and people have egos so be ready for that, and never be afraid to admit you don't know something - if they give you shit, go somewhere else!
