so, i played with my toaster. i set it to mid way - toast burnt to just about (and i will eat anything so my tolerance i guarantee surpasses most!) edible levels
Quarter way, not toasted enough so wallah! Set the thing to a 10 oclock position assuming 7 oclock is the macines 0.
So....
Turn it to max, toast is billowing smoke way way way wayyyyyyyyy before its time to pop.
So. you clever kids out there . . . .whats the point of the max temp on a toaster?

I dunno about this but I once disabled the automatic popup on an old toaster then forgot about my toast. Until the smoke alarm went off.

Hm, older toasters don't get as hot. I used to have perfect toast around 6/10, now I need to put it around 9/10 to get the same effect. So maybe the max temp on your toaster is set really high to make it more future-proof!

Wow my toaster must be really weak. I set it to 5 normally for bagels and it doesn't come near to smoking.

wow, im 32 bought 4-5 toasters(not including the honourable student experiment ones we bought at uni) and anything over half is . .call the fire brigade if you forget!
these salmon bags . . . ? in all cases im always dissatisfied by the uneven toasting of my bread . .getting anything in there other than very small insects boggles my mind

I kind of want to set mine to max and put some white bread in just to see what happens now.
|
So basically now we all have to try it to see if we burn our houses down. I can see the headlines now lol.

Some people actually put bread into their freezer and then into the toaster for defrosting and toasting at the same time.
And pop-tarts might need a little more heat than some mostly-air toast

240 degrees.

With my toaster the settings assume you're starting cold. If i set to 4 from cold I'll get golden brown. If I make a second piece right away it'll get burnt to the point that normally a 6 or 7 would. Could be something similar?

The reason that there is a max temp on the toaster is for the tryhards (like myself) who micro their toast to golden perfection.

I eat bread you need the max setting for and it's so fucking good. When it isn't toasted it sucks tho.
