We are working on another major guide and need your help with some things. I'll be posting in this blog occasionally to ask questions, this is the first. Please answer honestly and encourage friends you know to answer in the poll as well. The more data we have the better.
What is your most played color in Magic: The Gathering?

I don't play MTG

Its so much fun. I'll be doing data gathering like this for a bunch of different games. At least LoL and DotA 2, so keep an eye out

Ha! Very interesting to compare the two. I already voted, but here's how the races/colors seem to me:
Protoss: G/U or U/W creature control. They're fighters, but they're also tricky/clever/technological. Zerg: B/U reanimator, R/G aggro, or R burn. Swarm, grow, destroy. Terran: R/W aggro or affinity. They're mostly just feisty little dudes, but also, robots.
From the other perspective: W: Angels, enchantress stuff, control stuff is protoss. Weenies and rebels are terran. U: 100% protoss, obviously. B: 100% zerg. R: A mix of terran and zerg. Goblins, burn, all that stuff could go either way. G: Thematically pretty neutral, I'd say.
Obviously it's much too early to draw any sort of conclusions based on the responses, but I would expect to see a large number of G/Protoss responses not necessary because they're thematically close together, but because they're both easy to understand. Someone hands you a green deck? You're probably supposed to play some acceleration, a bunch of little creatures and/or one big one, and turn them sideways, potentially with some combat tricks. At least in Wings of Liberty, you were probably doing the same thing most of the time with protoss. Cast a bunch of elves and whatnot (stalkers and zealots), stabilize yourself with some utility spells as needed (sentries), then mix in more and more of your favorite fatties, mana permitting (robo tech).

Thanks for the analysis. I hope we get enough people voting to have useful data.

Uh I actually just realised it's only starcraft 2. I don't play sc2. But I am 100% terran. In terms of decks, I have like multiples of every colour and multiples of multiples of colours so it's kinda hard but I guess the most natural one for me was green. I always enjoyed enchantment/elf decks. So scratch a green/terran off your list if you are just doing sc2.

i use dual color decks only though and i random in sc2 ><

My favorite deck is my U/G madness deck and I play protoss, so voted G/Protoss

I wish I still had time/money to play MtG, but when I was playing often my favorite deck was an elf deck.

From a lore perspective, the Zerg are 100% Green. They just want to grow and eat and reproduce. They exist in a collective mind, they practice survival of the fittest, and literally everything they make and use is alive.

I'd say you could make an argument for Zerg as Black as well, what with the poisoning and acid and infesting humans and damaging one's own in order to damage the opponent (viper consume).

I'm way out of the loop for MtG stuff, but if anyone has ideas on similar mechanics between races in Sc2 and colors in MtG I would be really interested.
For example, I used to play a squirrel deck where the idea was to swarm the opponent with tons of units (Zerg). But I know this is much more basic than it could be. If anyone has written or would like to write a comparison of the way different colors/races tend to function and a comparison between them, hit me up!

Poison and acid are both very Green. I'll grant you the infestation and the sacrifices, but those are relatively minor mechanics as compared to the spreadspreadspreadspread nature of the Swarm.
Mechanically speaking, I can understand why Green and Protoss have a lot of crossover, as they both tend toward the "few but efficient fatties" model rather than the "lots of cheap guys" model.

MtG is the shit! I used to play a bit, but don't really have the time/money for it.
My favorite strategy was inspired by "The Sparkler" theme deck, from the Stronghold set. Red & Blue, almost entirely direct damage and counterspells with a couple creatures to round it out. I played about 75% of my cards during my opponents turn, what fun!
So, I guess I'd say red was my main color?

But what about Pestilence, or Infect (Example infect card)? Aren't these poison/infection type things that are black?
I totally get where you're coming from with the spread spread spread, lots of tiny dudes multiplying, etc., but I also feel like the Swarm has this darkness that can be represented by Black. Something like 75/25 Green/Black type of deal.

Favorite magic decks were U/W control, but since that is not an option I'll go with White (weenie). Seems an ok match with zerg.

Infect was equally in green and black. I'll grant you that disease/infestation is something that shows up in black, though, so I guess my final verdict is that Zerg is mostly green with a little black.
As for Terrans and Protoss, I think Protoss are W/U with a little bit of green (organized society, highly advanced technology, reason > emotions, but the collective unconsciousness of the Khala) and Terrans W/R with a little bit of blue (organized army, emotions > reason, big on personal freedom, but they do have a love affair with machines).

Right now green/toss is highest. That makes perfect sense to me. Here is how I would relate them.
Green: Big creatures, buffs, steamroll opponents with raw power. Red: Fast, swarms, direct damage. Blow shit up. Blue: Smart/tricky, controls the play of others, knowledge. White: Defensive, some minor control, big creatures with abilities, annoying life gain/lockout mechanics Black: Devious, draining, hard to kill off, mean.
Protoss: Big death ball, powerfull stuff, obliterate armeis with your army kinda deal. Zerg: Map control, vision, mass creatures. Terran: Defensive, slow an ponderous, annoying drops.
So for a single color. Protoss=Green. Big stuff killing stuff, enough said lol. Zerg=Blue. Controls playing field with creep, infestors, tricky with things like burrow. Seems like it may associate with red or black, but blue seems closest of those 3. Terran=White: Defensive, some minor control with tanks etc, annoying drops to correspond with annoying life gain cards.
IMO, better poll would be choose race, then up to 3 favorite colors.

oooo, that is such a better way to organize it. Should we just start over?

I play toss, and I just made a Biovisionary/Infinite reflection deck with elves (blue/green). However before that I had a vampire deck with Olivia (black/red).
EDH decks I have Mayel and Riku as commanders.
