Things focused on: 5 Gate from Day[9] Daily #285 and a robo colossus build.
Completion of Focus: Getting better, though still kinda ugly
End of Day Placement: Silver
Recap:
Still been pretty busy with my wife's grandma in the hospital, but she got home today and I didn't have a lot of things to do tonight so I got to play for a few hours. Yay!
I was trying to sort out Partings Immortal all in. Partly because it's awesome and wins a lot, and partly because Day9 had a whole day on it, but mostly because it was pretty straight forward. First you macro, then you micro. It was also sentry heavy which is something I was looking for because I suck with sentries and the best way to get better is to do builds that have a LOT of sentries forcing me to learn them.
Turns out that I don't like the Immortal sentry all in right now because it is really weak in the beginning and I really suck right now at stopping early pressure with FFE builds. Also the build was a little complex for me right now. I could focus on the build, or I could focus on sentries, but I think if I try to focus on both (especially with early pressure) I'd be boned. Baby steps.
So I played against the computer for a bit working out the 5 gate expand build that Day9 covered which is fully half sentries! (Pushing out at 9:00 I'm aiming for 7 sentries, 7 stalkers and 2 zealots) Great way to learn to forcefield properly!
As far as actual games go, I was 7-9 today. Which isn't too bad because especially in the beginning I was playing HORIBLE. (Also one game my shift key stuck and I couldn't figure out what happened for a long time and it made me miss my forcefield on my ramp that would have saved my ass.) A couple games I missed the mineral patch when starting the game and didn't notice till the first probe was almost done (after setting screen hotkeys) and one I didn't get the probe going for the first 20 seconds or so, little stupid things like that. I also forgot to get gas and the cybernetics core and stuff like that screwing up my rhythm. I even had a game where I scouted that he was on one base and figured he was probably building a huge army... then expanded and he walked all over me. I've got to use the info I get!
I also got supply blocked more times than I care to admit. I was forgetting pylons all over to start the day, so much so that I forgot my 2nd 3rd and 4th pylons (full on hard supply block) all in the same game.
As the night went on I got a little more familiar with the builds I was doing and even managed to beat a Terran who turtled up with a deathball with colossus! I love colossus, they are so cool, especially when I micro them properly and manage to keep them all throughout the attack!
Focus
So right now I am playing the matchups as follows:
Zerg:
5 Gate unless he does a really early pool in which I will keep on one base.
Protoss:
I like doing the 5 gate against Protoss as about half of Protoss just try and turtle up and build a deathball, So if I can kill them before they can get more than 1 or 2 immortals, woohoo! The other half of protoss tend to 4 gate to kill the others. With the 5 gate I have enough gateways to hold off a 4 gate, but I've expanded. So a good enough army, but still better economy. I like that. and if nothing else it's easy to change this into a single base build.
Terran
I'm trying to do a kind of 1 gate robo and scout the hell out of Terran. I like the early robo so I can get observers to see what they're doing (and scout for drops) Also it helps me get my colussus earlier. Right now I'm getting 3 immortals and then 3 colossus with thermal lance, that seems to make a hell of a deathball.
