I used to love Starcraft 2. I made marines, stim, and combat shields. I believed it was the future of e-Sports. Now I can no longer compete at a decent level. Perhaps my macro is bad or perhaps I'm just jaded. I've been playing the HotS beta for sometime and I feel like the Rodney Dangerfield of Terran, I just can't get no respect.
36% I hear is the win rate for TvZ in GSL. But I never really had issues with Zerg, moreso with Protoss. I never understood how players like Elfi can have 10 apm and be competitive, while I'm struggling with my 120apm. I never understood how Dustin Browder told me personally that having a +1 on sentry armor was good for the game. I never knew why he nerfed Terran and the Protoss and Zerg feasted on my tears as I got worse, and they got stronger. And I never knew how the core army of a Terran army did not consist of tanks versus Protoss.
I've smashed headsets, I've smashed keyboards, I've punched pillows, and I've thrown objects at the wall. I watched replays after replays of successful players and attempted to emulate their play, albeit a bit slowly.
I don't understand David Kim and Dustin Browder as they tell me that Starcraft 2 is a fun game. Perhaps I never understood Starcraft 2, and after two years, perhaps I never will.

Glad to see that people are starting the feel the way I have been feeling for a while now. i recently gave up on sc2. Its just such a clusterfuck shitfest that i'd rather just go to school, work, and play league until i hear that every one of blizzards current employees have been fired for making diablo 3 terrible, starcraft II terrible (and even worse as time went on), and HotS not even worth buying. They do a terrible job marketing themselves so the community is constantly getting smaller, they do not know how to balance a game (they only balance by ladder statistics and the gsl... come the fuck on now.. -_-), and they do not know when to admit that they're wrong.
|
I like the direction of the game, and approve of their balance methods. Doesn't make the game fun though. SC2 is just a video game lacking fun, not depth of strategy or balance.

I don't understand David Kim and Dustin Browder as they tell me that Starcraft 2 is a fun game. You think a game should be fun to you because someone else tells you it's fun or because someone else has an easier time winning? It doesn't sound like you enjoy playing the game at all if all you do is compare yourself to other people. I mean of course everyone wants to get better, but it's not like this is your career here. If you can't do it, you can't do it. Play SC2 for what it is: a game.

Breaking shit because you are too emotionally unstable to deal with *gasp* losing in a video game should be a sign that you need to take a good hard look at yourself and your priorities.

Just let it burn, man. Just let it all fucking burn.

changes are coming. I think people forget how long it took BW to be balanced. It took literally near 10 years, to have the last balance patch. People are too hasty to jump on the SC2 is shit train when it is actually a great game that just needs developing, balancing, and has tons of potential.

Incorrect, the last brood war balance patch came out in 1.08 near 2001. The ones after that were just ui/bugfix type patches. But yeah, I doubt Blizzard will balance SC2 within the next 3-4 years.

No, it didn't take "10 years" for BroodWar to be balanced. None of the post-2001 patches affected gameplay. SC2 has undergone more patches than SC Vanilla and BroodWar combined, with most of the patches altering units and buildings directly. It's impossible to understand a game where the very fundamental aspects of play are constantly being altered.

I'm glad you rode in one your white horse of superior morality to let everyone know where their priorities should lie. Because gosh, having goals in a competitive game and then not meeting them should never elicit a negative response, because hey, you're such a cool guy that you're not tied down by "goals" or "trying". Everyone should take a page out of your b... oh, you're nuked, nevermind.

Thank you for understanding. To understand that passion and desire to get better, I appreciate it. Now I've just transitioned into a management role of a team rather than to play games competitively. Now I hope to nurture talent and help them through the difficult process of attempting to be a professional gamer.

Welp...time to move on to League of Legends? . I hear its actually fun to play, won't that be exciting? Playing a game because its fun AND because it has competition?
Just kidding (a bit). I feel like so many fell into the trap of thinking SC2 was going to be the next best thing, and so many tried to like it, just based on a pure assumption that it would be as good or better than Starcraft 1 and Brood War were. I think it takes time for people to realize, that Blizzard isn't really the same anymore. They're working with different directors and designers, as Blizzard North wasn't involved in it at all to the best of my knowledge (or only on small parts).

In terms of design, I think that League is a cheap copy of DOTA and HoN. League is not the future of e-Sports or competitive play.

I encourage you to try Brood War! You'll be able to use tanks against Protoss and never have to worry about balance changes screwing you over. Of course the game can be demoralizing in its own right...
|
I don't mind SC2, the whiny TL community on the other hand...... has gotten old fast ever since that Destiny post.

Well, I'm not nuked, so I'll say that he's right, albeit a bit harsh. Of course not living up to your goals/expectations will elicit a negative response. I'm sometimes furious after a loss too, because I know I should be better than losing to whatever I lost to. But that's as far as it goes; channel that anger into motivation to practice harder, don't channel that anger into physically breaking your own keyboard or whatever. I feel like if you're not a spoiled 10-year-old, throwing your toys at the wall when you lose a game is just unacceptable, end of story.

I gave up on StarCraft 2 as well, and I played Zerg, lol. When I quit, Zerg was probably the best race. At least ZvT seemed to be about 55 / 45 in favour of Zerg.
Anyway, that's not even the reason I quit. I quit because the game fucking bores me. I considered switching to Terran since I think it's a more fun race, but when I realized that mech was probably the best way to play TvZ on most maps, I gave up (Because I find mech boring in SC2).

Speak for yourself, asshole. I have more fun playing StarCraft 1 than anything else. As for time, StarCraft (1) is a magnificent and (in the right hands) beautiful art. Of course it takes time, just like learning a musical instrument takes time. And of course it's not fun until you start getting good. If you're not going to put in time and effort, what's the point of doing anything at all?

No. People tend to forget how few patches Brood War got. It took three years after the release of the original game. The last balance patch was released in 2001. StarCraft was released in 1998. Brood War was released in 1999. And the total amount of balance patches was less than 5.

I understand that this is a QQ blog but there are levels and levels of QQ. Saying that you are a better player than an Assembly winner and "dragged down" by your race is pretty stupid even if you are angry. See you 2morrow when you are not so pissed about losing a game on the BEAT ( see that, it's beta, it's no supposed to be balanced ) ladder.
|
Holy shit I feel the same way. I just blame the fact that I haven't played much as an excuse for my rusty mechanics. I wish something would be done about balance, though. It does feel like I have to try really hard to actually win.
