GLOSSARY:
aeon : 1. (Gnosticism) a divine power or nature emanating from the Supreme Being and playing various roles in the operation of the universe. 2. The longest division of geological time. 3. An immeasurably long period of time
What does MMR stand for?
Despite the supposed obvious assumption that it suggests a Terran strategy : Marine, Marauder, Raven. It actually means Match Making Ratings, which is the secret system that determines your placement upon the ladder and your league.
I feel that I'm becoming too obsessed with the game. Is this a problem?
No not at all, the more the better. Starcraft II stimulates every cognitive faculty and component of intellectual progression. To progress in the game means to progress in evolution itself, for the individual and humanity. Battle.net will exist as a corporate entity for the next aeon.
Why do I sometimes encounter a professional 'God' player of unholy power in the bronze league?
No doubt, there are some with younger brothers or nephews who mess around with their accounts causing their regression into bronze league, or conversely, the little one has bought their own copy of Starcraft II finally, and the Pro is playing on their behalf for fun. It's times like these you should review the replay and see what they get up to.
I'm having trouble trying to discern and read my opponent. In order to guage or measure his personality and predict his movements. How can I begin with this?
Try scouting within a timeframe of the game that reveals his/her build order beyond the standard opening. Kind of around 2:00 - 3:00 minutes. If you get their too early, you'll find him but see nothing but the usual opening which is beyond our resources to deviate from. Another thing is to say 'GL HF'. And see their reaction. Small things.. If they put a mere space between the two acronyms, if they add a smiley face.
And also, wait a few seconds and see if THEY greet first. Another thing, see if they harass when they scout you. Whatever conclussion you draw from these trivial discernments I leave up to your intuition.
How do I further fuel and boost the intensity of my endeavour? I need additional energy for this task.
Filter coffee is the first suggestion. Strong with sweetener, sugar and moderate milk. Have a cup at periodic intervals. Don't saturate yourself with the substance. Do a few exercises like 10 pushups
in the morning. Or a light walk in the evenings. Take part in passive activities like watching replays and reading threads and forum entries. Buy a new super mouse and optimize your interface. Customize a few things and do some research. Perfect your surroundings and maybe also, keep a battle log or journal to record your personal experiences.
Are there any habits or involuntary twitches I must be aware of while playing?
Of the left hand, when combining hot-keys, make sure your thumb or small finger are placed to maximum efficiency, and not positioned awkardly. Of the right hand on the Mouse, here is a
strange notion which could be brought to light.
Some use the third middle mouse button to scroll. And it becomes a bad habit of involuntary amusement to move the screen with this method, because one of your fingers will stray to the middle mouse button away from the 'left' or 'right' button.
Usually, the MIDDLE finger is poised over the RIGHT mouse button, and of course, POINTING finger over the left.
Unless you've optimized your hands muscle memory to use the RING finger as the RIGHT mouse button, then it's different.
After defeat, I sometimes experience this premonitory sense of suicidal dissolution. How to I endure or overcome this?
Sometimes this is unavoidable and I can either lend hint to rationalize the defeat, or provide strategy to overcome the enemy and thus achieve victory. For most assuredly victory is the ultimate outcome we seek with deliberation. Just consider that your condition sometimes ebbs and flows, goes up and down, and that the enemy may've just been lucky to exploit a moment of weakiness or mistake on your part. It is not enough for me to say, 'advance upon your weakness'. That's too obvious. But maybe slowing down or speeding up your play will change things. Either slow down the rate of navigation and selection. OR speed up and exert more physical & frantic effort on things. Also watch your resources. A pro once told me the secret is to constantly make sure you have 'no money'.
De facto the absence of resources is the evidence of action, on the battle-field. But more than anything never forget the phrase so often typed. 'GL HF'. A mutual wish for the opponent to perform well and 'have fun' in other words know that either outcome is immaterial against the fact that you did, after all, engage in combat. But the hardest part is to disassociate yourself from personal insult. For the defeat means your 'Self' was afflicted with pain, and your ability needs increase. And no doubt, the opponent has applied aggressive force and devious cunning to destroy you. Which after all always becomes personal. Just do not let defeat deter you from the task at hand. So long as you're engaging in practise you can only get better.
I bought this game around 3 months ago and I've been steadily improving. I'm currently in the gold league, Do you think I should quit school and become Pro?
No doubt, yet in same breath, be careful with your routine. You will need some other secondary activity which is either slightly related or perhaps seperate from Starcraft II engagement.
Subscribe to Time magazine, learn Php programming or read & research occult psychology, parasychology. Maybe even history. History as in more radical ideas that purport alternative theories towards present religion and society. Developing your Starcraft ability is equally important as developing your social persona. But also, make sure you can secure the position and resources to become a pro. You would need, a premium laptop of near holy quality, ( I have this affinity towards laptops and love being portable ) and some place with a servant to do your immediate bidding ( maybe ). If you entered Gold league, it is a testament to your inherent skill, that could be advanced upon. However beware of the stress. For being a SC II player is conceivably one of the hardest professions ever. Every component of your mind takes strain, Mental, Emotional, & Physical. If you can imagine how personal players become, consider the pressure endured when 'work' is involved. Responsibilty. Responsibily ( I sometimes despise that word ). Responsibility being that social force which binds you to the task at hand. But of course, school may be a reasonable routine which deprives you of the game just enough to instill THAT urge to play again. So I'd still finish school to keep other options open, because it's bothersome to go BACK to school again. AND TOO.. I have of course heard of case histories of certain players become abrubtly insane, from the constant playing of Chess. Though I think SC II has more diversity than Chess, you should still have something else to cause 'digression' within your daily schedule.
