So there was a situation today where I was put in a misunderstanding situation with a black man for using the N word. He took it to offense and my friend stepped up to my defense and said that I didn't mean it in an offensive way.
Then the black guy starts snapping at my friend because he's defending me (its ok though, I am understanding). I just say one last thing how we are both sorry, didn't mean to offend you, and lets just put this at rest because we do not want to fight. Then he starts snapping at me for even opening my mouth (god i hate stupid people).
Then my friend chips in that he would never want to fight him because the black guy would win. I didn't say anything because I was told multiple times to my face to shut up you don't have a right to talk with no explanation besides those words.
That sort of ticked me off a little and I thought of a scenario where if I would fight him, who would win? Well I was pretty confident that I would probably be able to get the upper hand on him because people always underestimate my strength due to my size. However, the better half of me was in control and I did NOT fight him.
Later on after we had changed subjects, the subject was changed to who's knife was on the table. It was the black guys. Of course when I do NOT put a racial profile on the black guy the knife is his. I would also have gotten stabbed if I had tried to fight him and not knowing about the knife.
The one case where stereotyping could have saved my life if I snapped back

So there was a guy with a knife visiting your ward? Guess they need to tighten security.

The coherency levels are below the point where I am able to understand two sentences of what you're saying.

I suggest not using the n word.
When you slip and say something that is interpreted as offensive and someone is giving you a hard time, I think just owning up to it and apologizing should be enough to give you the opportunity to end the affair. Something like...
you: blah blah n word blah blah them: HEY! you: huh? them: How dare you use that word? you: oh, but- them: You should keep your mouth shut you have no right to talk you: I made a poor word choice. I'm sorry. I'll be more careful! them: <starts to say something like they haven't had enough> you: I apologized, it won't happen again, sorry! <leave>
Then again I don't randomly use the n word in public so I haven't had a chance to try this out!

And the cold drops of a soft rain tipped and tapped upon the nearby window pane; another day had passed.

Also I live in the south. I have guys in my class that casually say the n word a lot, sometimes they will call pale and white here (myself) the n word for shitz and gigglez, and I'm down for it. What you did, you were a dick. I don't go into open areas with my white friends and start calling people beaners or saying fuck you kikes (despite the fact that I'm jewish), because its hateful and inapropriate. You should have just walked away and said sorry and then not talked again in front of him. Thats just distasteful State.

I have to admit, I'm enamored with your blogs. They're so pointless, stupid, conceited, and a myriad of other negative things. I almost admire your ability to be the least likable human being I've ever had the misfortune of reading about.

That's the zinger.
You don't think there's a knife on the table.
But then he tells you there's a knife on the table.

zzzzz the knife was recently put on the table AFTER the discussion and was shortly commented on with its appearance

That's interesting, so the black guy took the knife out of his pocket only AFTER you had called him the n word and it was clear there was going to be no physical confrontation going down. So the black guy obviously took out the knife as a last resort, like "don't mess with me, I got a knife, even though its 2 on 1"...he sounds a little insecure to me
|
OK this is just getting bad, either you are a decent troll, or you are a massive idiot. You do not use the n word at all, much less in public where someone might very well hear it and take offense. And he had every right to be pissed, you wanting to fight him just makes you looks bad. Also you failed to mention why you used the n word, that little detail might be important.
Also, well played once again hawk.

Very sharp and enlightening observation of human culture and interracial tension.

When I go to the local hometown buffet, and I see the cinnamon rolls, I say, "Hey, these are probably not very healthy. If I was on a diet, I would avoid these cinnamon rolls." I do not stop and think, "hey, maybe these are DIET cinnamon rolls. Maybe they are sugar free. Maybe I am being unfair in stereotyping them and assuming on sight that they are unhealthy. Maybe they are made with tofu and soy milk." I don't stop and think this, because I'd rather not sit and waste the time questioning the legitimacy of the stereotype. I can only say that when my safety is in threat and not just my waist line, I'm probably even less likely to fear lazy stereotyping.
I gave you 5/5 OP, but only because the guy had a knife at the end. From the stars I see, it's looking like I'm the only one.

Then again I don't randomly use the n word in public so I haven't had a chance to try this out! Every 4th word in some of those rap songs is 'The n word" I think the biggest issue here is the black guy carries a knife and was close to using it in a violent way

I used to love rap songs in highschool (i was known as a hip hop MC type). There were like 7 black guys at my school (I don't know I wasn't counting really) and they all hungout together. Onetime i said the n-bomb in the hall while i was rapping. No one was around that was black but this big stupid bully guy decided to inform the "black guy crew" that I had said the N-bomb.
They were travelling around in a group looking for me. I thought i was a dead guy. I was really scared. Then they just said "hey man don't say that word."
Moral of the story, some people are actually offended but respectful? I still don't even know what this word could mean to someone? For me its just the word you bust out when you REALLY want to show people you're from the hood. Therefore you gotta be ready to ride or die when you use it.
Peace off homie

Peace off homie It reminds me a lot of the recent stuff happening in the middle east. The fact that people would let you manipulate them so easily by using the n word, or by making fun of Mohammed (or any other comparable thing) is strange to me.

That's an interesting yet apt comparison. The answer to why people allow things to affect them disproportionately badly is beyond me. I have one useful observation. Humans seem to value simple rules to govern behaviour. A world where you know right and wrong is much easier to move through. The negative side to this is that you will be negatively affected when something offends part of your world view.
|
Shit, this reminds me of my first year of uni. I accidentally used the word nigger(I didn't know an alternate name for "Real Nigga Roll Call"). All of the white people in the room got all quiet and scared and the black person didn't really care. After that I realized I really needed to start watching my language.

the problem is that this black dude was not his friend. Just like all his other "friends." If you are actually cool with each other, using the n word wont matter because they will know its not meant in a derogatory way
|
I don't even understand what exactly happened here just because of the way this post was written but you really shouldn't be going around dropping the N-word casually like this. I'm a racial minority myself and it can be infuriating when people toss around words like this, to you it might just be a joke or something non-serious, but to other people it can be a word that carries a ton of hate and anger to it. You don't know if that black guy had some time in his life when people were making fun of him or beating him up saying those words to him, and the word becomes attached to that kind of violence. Then when someone says the word 'nigger' casually, it can be misinterpreted as a threat.
I'm gay and while I usually don't get pissed off or react when people use the word 'gay' as an insult or whatever, it still bothers me. When people use a word that refers to what you are as an insult or some kind of curse, it can build up a lot of anger in you.
|
I enjoyed the random knife on the table discussion without any context. Made me laugh after the initial confusion ended (it hasn't really ended yet).
On a side note, I really wish people would stop using the n-word, or use racial/sexual insults "for fun". :/
|
this guy should get an award on TL for his blogs srsly.

Watch your hard R's when using the N word, end that word with an a. Also I heard if you use the N word around a black person youre gonna have a bad time.
