Introduction or: Where is Sen?+ Show Spoiler + Hi guys!
To my and hopefully your excitement, i created a list of the best 30 foreign players. As you may know, those lists are rly subjective. I try to look at achievements and latest results, but its unavoidable to get personal opinions into this. There is no such thing as the perfect „ranking“, but i enjoy doing those, most ppl enjoy reading them, but not many ppl put rankings out there. My ranking is purely about foreign players and i exclude asian, non korean players as well – that means you wont find chinese or taiwanese players in my ranking. The simple reason being: i dont have much information about these scenes. I obviously know that Sen, Xigua and others are great players, but its impossible to compare them to the players in EU and NA. So you could consider it a „Western Foreigner Top 30“.
I put quite some work into it and i hope i get at least some reads, since i think a ranking made by a random person should be posted as a blog and not as a thread in the general section, even though it might end up with no responses at all.
So here is the list for this month!
Some comments on the ranking:+ Show Spoiler +Not much movement in the top 8. I decided to still rank Naniwa above Nerchio, despite his slump in foreign tournaments. Not sure about SaSe, MaNa probably takes his spot soon. Kas and Ret are on the same level imo, Ret showed worse results in the past months though. Vortix and slivko pwn asses in europe currently, both showing great performances in IEM as well. We will see if Vortix high spot is satisfied in the next month - for now i have to rate him that high i think, espeically because the other candidates for the top 10 spots arent as solid as they where before. Ranking from position 12 on was extremly hard this month. Grubby lost to Sheth in MLG and has his on and off days, Lucifron isnt as impressive as he was in the 2-3 months before, Socke and HuK arent great either. IdrA and Demuslim show decent results again and maintain their ranks (demu wins 2 cuz others drop), Sheth was originally ranked 27 in my head before this MLG but he seems to be there for big tournaments after all. The ranks from 13 till 23~24 ish are very close in my eyes and could be swaped kind of randomly, but i have to find an order, right?^^ Scarlett and Snute had great results this weekend and deserved a pretty solid entry into the ranking. JRecco still convinces, while MajOr, SeleCt and BeastyQt lack results this month (select for quite some time now - he was in the top 10 not too long ago...). BabyKnight finishes my ranking, since he surprisingly shows consistent results on a high level. Other candidates for this spot where Frear, MorroW and Illusion (all 3 dropped out this month... its very close obviously) but also Feast, BlinG and elfi; BratOK, ClouD and Strelok (who seem to play better again); Bly, ViBe and KiLLeR. But there is only 30 spots! I went for BabyK cause he has the best results in the past 3 months (together with ViBe and KiLLeR probably, but they dont convince me as much as BabyK honestly)
The following „20“ and others:+ Show Spoiler +Numbers in Brackets (x) stand for how many times someone was in the top 30 monthly ranking.

Having seen JRecco and Major in the TSL, I think those two are underrated. Other than that I find this month's ranking to be pretty fair. Stephano unquestionably number one lately, and Nerchio has been on the rise as well. All in all, good ranking.

Good rankings as always. Here's my criticisms: Major: Lucifron should be way way lower, perhaps even off the list or really low on the list.
Minor: I would say Mana > Sase atm. Scarlett should be higher, 17-20ish imo. Select should be lower, perhaps even off the list.
If you've got a lot of spare time, you should make 30 polls in the form of:
Poll: How did I rate Player X?Just Right! (3) 50% Overrated (2) 33% Underrated (1) 17% 6 total votes Your vote: How did I rate Player X? (Vote): Just Right! (Vote): Overrated (Vote): Underrated
as well as one where you ask which other players should be in the top 30.
Have you also considered amending your poll after you release it based on criticisms? We do a lot of editing when we do power rankings in order to compromise and hear each others' opinions.

well, i dont have THAT much time currently :D
i thought about making polls for asking about underrated/overrated players, but 30 polls? idk :/ i didnt come up with a simple way to ask for it yet :/
considering lucifron: the problem is, that i know he will stomp out within the next 2 months and beat players like nerchio, stephano or even koreans. idk, its so hard to rate him... Putting him in the 25-30s doesnt seem right to me, since i know he would beat every single one of them if there would be a bo7 showmatch or something against him. on the other hand, i cant rate him top 15 without thinking he doesnt belong there either...
i dont know, we will see^^

Still this is really cool, as usual ^^

Hm, you have a point. but its not like he had super bad results, he lost 1-2 to jyp and 0-2 to MC while winning 2-0 to white-ra. Thats not great, but not superbad either. Also, if im told to rate his current skilllevel and had to say how he would do in a touranment, i think his rank is ok. result wise probably not. idk, maybe im just a little luci fanboy as well ~.~
Also, thanks to the guy who ranked it 1/5

IMO vibe should be on there, Naniwa should be much lower, Sheth should be a bit higher, ret and titan should be a little bit lower. Pretty good overall.

suppy, vibe should be on there

Scarlett should be #10.IMO

Scarlett should at least be above Huk, in fact I'm not sure if Huk even deserves to be on this list at the moment.
|
Good list, but you overrate lucifron imo.

HuK is above IdrA? Not entirely sure above that, considering the improvement in IdrA's play and HuK not really showing much recently.
|
/facepalm Select is korean, he shouldn't be here.
|
major is so fucking good, are you serious? he could easily beat so many of these players... top terran imo

I agree.Suppy should take his place instead.

Suppy didnt show as many results as any player in the top 30 honestly (despite probably HuK, Lucifron or Socke which have reached too much in the past for dropping out of the ranking).
MajOr got 4th in NA and lost to JRecco (in good games though) this month. i disagree with him being much higher. The reason for him losing 3 ranks is not his performance, its more because of other players showing a lot more this month (Vortix, Scarlett, Snute, JRecco).
About Scarlett: take an honest look at who she did beat so far. she didnt play the big guns, thats why i cant rank her top 15. Also, its her first entry in my list, being solid over time is a huge factor in a foreign ranking in my opinion.
And well - the SeleCt korean/american discussion is as old as the first ranking i did. I explained why i put him in the list but i agree that its arguable.
Last point about HuK/IdrA: the reason for HuK being slightly above IdrA still is simply that HuK's slump isnt as long as IdrA's. HuK still posted amazing results when IdrA was already losing nearly everything. HuK is clearly on the way down still, while IdrA slowly stabilizes and crawls his way up again.
This ranking is NOT only about the results of the last month (although it makes about 50%), long term performance and overall impression is a huge factor as well.
Thanks for answering guys!

Pretty nice rating imo, you're really doing a nice job !
I'm going to surprise you, but I'm not sure if Naniwa still deserves his number 2 spot in comparison to Nerchio. I understand you give him credit for his GSL performances, but he played some pretty bad games recently (lost against JohnnyRecco, Aures...). I think I'd put Nerchio above him.
I also think Goody would deserve a place at the bottom of that list. I know his playstyle is hard to watch (I hate it myself) but he posted some pretty nice results beating big guns from time to time.
Last things I wanted to say, HuK is too high imo but you already explained your point, and Happy should be a bit higher considering his ladder performances (I'd place him at Grubby or Dimaga's level).
Nice work anyway, keep it up !
|
Ladder performances? That doesn't mean anything, Black17. Tournaments are the only thing that matter. Grubby consistently beats korean in tournaments, and Dimaga has lots of impressive tournament finishes -> Happy can't say the same.
Good changes this month, agree with pretty much all the changes. I see people mentioning Suppy, Scarlett and Major - but have they really proved anything yet? I see much talent, but not many results to fall back on. Check Snute's liquidpedia, and his IPL quali, ONOG 5 and Campus EU results are just as, if not more, impressive than theirs. Just to give some perspective. There are lots of europeans who aren't as known as the biggest NA names, but still have been more impressive than them.
|
Good list. I'd up Nerchio over Naniwa, lower Ret a few spots and up Scarlett 5-10 spots. Could argue a bit more about the 20-50 slots, but theres so many names there its almost impossible to rank them so not gonna go there. If theres someone im missing in top 30 its Bratok.
|
Good list like always.
Ret could be dropped a bit more, he really had a weak month. Would put slivko above him. vortix +18 looks like a record for you . A bit much, but he wasnt high enough on your last ranking, so ok. Dimaga has a 23% winrate after Dreamhack. He should drop more down. Sortof is clearly much stronger than him at the moment. Scarlett, Snute and Babyknight are good additions. Scarletts position is alright, beating only NA players doesnt prove too much. And it isnt a big samplesize. I wouldnt have dropped out fraer, he just wasnt at international events, but did well online. Morrow very difficult to judge since we see almost nothing from him (at least now Pokerstrategy league).
My korean ranking will probably follow today.
