I used to be a good statecraft 2 player. Hell I was better than that. If Taeja had 3 balls, I was his third nutsack that's how fucking good I was. And then it all went downhill from there.


It all started during the last mlg. I was an up and coming terran player. I had just made it into grandmaster and was feeling pretty good about myself. My results showed it as well. I won several matches in a row before i had to take a piss break. I pissed excellence that day. I stated to climb the brackets until I had to play a certain zerg....

The gracken was ferocious. He left no stone unturned. I sent everything I had at him. Proxy 2 rax, macro mech games, and the best damn banshee micro that I could have possibly mustered, but it was futile. Idras lings came swarming through the map. I was dealt a couple side blows as he ran them by for terrible terrible damage. Things turned around when I took out his fourth, until I found out he had a hidden base on the other side of the map I forgot about. I was on my last breaths now. His ultralisks had destroyed the last of my base and all i had was a small fleet of battlecruisers and a few floating buildings and scvs. Putting my scvs on auto repair I charged across the map in one valient effort to try to strike a critical blow that I needed to win the game. It didnt happen. I had made it to the first watch tower before Idra just had enough of me, made 30 corruptors and took down my last hope. Gg wp I typed. No response. My heart sank. Appearently even my best play wasnt enough to warrant a gg back from the gracken. I went over and tried to shake hands at least....nope. he took one look at me and saw my extended hand and with an ice cold glare of a killer he turned around and calmly went back to packing his things so he could move onto the next match.


Here I am a couple months later writing about this. My therapist says expressing myself is a good thing. She says it will help me sleep again. But I know it is hopeless. I have not been able to sleep ever since that fateful day. I close my eyes but all I could see was not the blissful slep I craved but Idra. His mocking face of "Im better than you. Suck it noob". *shivers* Dont get me wrong. I DO sleep, but its only after weeks of not sleeping that i mentall collapse for an hour or two before I must go through this living hell of a nightmare all over again. INEED MY SLEEP!!!!!

Personally, using flux is easy on my eyes and also helps me sleep.

Try to get sun during the day and exercise. When you sleep, make sure your room is as devoid of light as possible and obviously make sure you're comfortable. Don't take caffeine for at least 5 hours before bedtime. Also don't drink alcohol--that stuff won't help you in the long run. That's all I got >_< good luck yo.

Improve your sleep hygene.
That means, your bedroom is your sleep sanctuary. It should be only for sleeping, not for watching the telly or being on the computer until late. You should set a time in which you must go to bed, turn off all electronic devices and lights, and just lie down and sleep. Don't eat at least 2 hours before going to sleep, don't exercise at least 2 hours prior to going to bed either, just be relaxed and with the help of the dark, quiet, peaceful environment of your bedroom, you should be able to sleep.

A big percentage of sleep disorders involve some problem with sleep hygene. Start on that and see how you fare.
If that doesn't work out, pay a visit to your doctor.

That's also some good advice yo, your environment is really important. Creating a regular cycle is also very important.

And trust him, he's a damn good doctor at that.

I am going to be in college next week and ive been trying tovrevert my sleep schedule from like 5am to 1pm. But ivjust end up staying in bed for a couple hours and end up taking sorta a napcbefore i wake up again for a while and in the end nothing changed. I exercise once a day but ill try twice i dont eat anything couple hours before no caffeine and room is dark. Im on the commputer a lot thiugh up to before i go to sleep but i dont have anything else to do or else ored out of my mind

Yeah, click on the underlined flux link in my post, the nicer light spectrum might help you feel more sleepy :X

If it really comes down to it, you might want to try the "don't eat anything 16 hours before the time you want to wake up" method. Basically there's the circadian clock of your body--body feels sleepy or awake depending on the light it gets. There's another clock however, for food. If you don't eat anything for a while, your body supposedly will be more prone to waking up because it will sense the hunger and need for food. I don't recommend melatonin, but if you need it, maybe try it one day to see if it can move your sleep cycle enough.

Haha ive been so busy this summer improving my diet and working out and exercising to stay healthy too ice forgotten about when i eat bexause i eat small meals around the day. I will try fasting but is that sleep included in the 16 hours? Or dont eat for 16 hours and the body will get sleepy all awake

Umbra's advice sounds really good.

I'm in a similar situation, except for the fact that I don't play very much and I'm not very good, so it would be pointless to do so anyway. I've always been something of a nighthawk myself, however, and seem to not be able to sleep until ~3-5AM. I'd like to take Umbra's advice, but I don't have the luxury of separating my bedroom from my technology. There isn't anywhere else for it. I've never really been into reading books, either.

I'd like to know a little more if possible about this "sleep hygiene" aside from reducing lighting and eliminating distractions (of which light is the least of my concerns). What else can be done to improve the "sleep hygiene" of my sleeping environment? Should I shower right before bed? Should my dog sleep in the hallway or be kept out of my room altogether? Should I shake my addiction for milk and cookies?

Ah I see

Oh basically, let's say you want to wake up at 10 am. In that case, the last meal you want to have should be 16 hours before that, so at 6 pm. Again I'm not quite sure whether this works because I'm lucky enough not to have to try it, but it's apparently a pretty good way to adjust for jetlag actually

It's probably pretty individual, though most of the things Umbra wrote should be applicable. Personally though, I sleep MUCH better if I eat before going to bed, sleeping on an empty stomach is more or less impossible for me since instead of actually getting tired, I'm constantly thinking about food and how hungry I am.
