Hi all. I just got promo'd to masters and it feels fucking great. And im not even in low masters but high masters! Its probably because the division isnt filled. Anyways, it took me 8 months to get from bronze to masters. I had breaks for about 3 months total though.
Heres a quick summary of my sc2 career -play 5 placement matches 3 months after it comes out -lose all five get smashed and depressed -dont play for a long time till friends get me into the game again, get stomped and get placed in bronze -work my way up to plat, hit plateau and take a break for 2 months -decide to try again and get promo'd to diamond -hit plateau again, rest for 1 month -play 30 games against dias and plats till i start facing only masters -get serious and play for around 6 hours non-stop -get promo'd to masters at around 3 am! -shout in joy, wake family up, mom gets pissed
One guide helped me quite a bit: bronze to masters Thanks for the guide
For those of you who want to get to masters, its surprisingly not that hard! Consistent improvement will get you to masters!

I got to masters around 400ish games
Gl everyone!

I can't say that because I got placed in Plat on my first placement. :p
Congrats, now you are considered a competent starcraft player despite being in the top 5% of the world.
I got to masters similarly, once I hit diamond I also hit a plateu and stopped playing. Couple months later I massed team games to train my mechanics and bam I got promoted in only 2 days after playing 1v1.
|
Wow, that's really cool! I'm pretty much at the plat(eau), but that's a different story haha
|
congrats man!!
|
sounds like you have a lot of potential as a player. not many people become masters so fast (only 400 games). i assume sc2 is your first RTS. otherwise i take it back.
you would probably be very high master or GM if you actually kept playing consistantly. too bad for you, man .D
|
Only 400 games ? So good, you should make a meet bbrian thread ! /troll off Good for you, it's the second blog like this i see in a day, but the other one was about a guy who got promoted to silver so it's not exactly the same. Still good tho

To note, never compare yourself to your division, always check on SC2ranks for a overall view of all masters players to determine whether you are high, mid, or low. As far as your points go, you are at the very bottom of low. Regardless, congrats on your achievement.
|
You'll drop from the top 8 for sure, 400 points would land you somewhere around top 50 in my division.
But anyway, congrats! I remember the first time I got promoted to masters, I did a fist pump and just stared at the icon for a good 3 minutes. Consistency and a clear head are definitely the keys to getting promoted.

I get too frustrated when playing against protoss. I could never do it. TvP is awful.
|
That's actually kind of inspiring. Good job!! So I guess now you can join the casual king of the hill observer games and show off to everybody . Unless you just enjoy playing the game I guess
|
Congrats. Welcome to competitive SC2... you have a long but rewarding road ahead of you
|
If this is your first RTS i'm impressed, well done!

why do people have to say this? next thing you will see Parting tell you how easy it is to get into Code S. other than that, congratulations on masters.
|
Next step: get to GM and become a progamer?
|
Thanks everyone for such posting responses! And yes, this is my first RTS ever. @nabes, it's really not a huge feat if you think about it. Anyone can make it to masters if they have the time and a proper mindset.
|
Great job!! :D One day I hope to rise to masters as well! Awesome that you can go from bronze to masters hehe GG
|
May I ask: on what server you play in Afghanistan?
|
Ha, I'm so close to this goal being from bronze and now in diamond. It shows me that other people have at least accomplished this
|
|
congrats to you.
i personaly could kill someone sometimes just because of the fact i beat plat terrans and i am still in bronze.
the promoting system is a fucking joke imo. but glad to see someone beat it.

If you're taking games off terran plats, then you should be in plat, maybe other matchups are bringing your mmr down. I don't think the system is a joke although some players i played shouldn't be in the leagues they are in...

The promoting system rewards consistency and mass gaming. If you play a good midgame, but when a bunch of lings show up before the 4 min mark you freak out and die, the system sees you as a very inconsistent player. This is particularly exacerbated by playing fewer games.
For example, I'm Gold, but I consistently beat my diamond and platium friends in custom games. I know their playstyles and I'm always very, very calm and certain I will win, and I play extraordinarily well. I wish I could carry that attitude to my ladder games, because in ladder games I get really nervous sometimes (especially if i'm way ahead for some reason), or go on tilt, or start forgetting really important things after 15~ games (like my 3rd pylon. FUCK the 3rd pylon)... it makes my winrate and consistency very, very bad.
That said, I haven't played in 2 months, so maybe I can pull something like the OP and start laddering with some more confidence... I just want to win SO BAD, and forget to focus on being more consistent

Wow - congradulations.
I've never been able to get past diamond. I don't know how people who get mastes do it .
Over 2k games, in diamond :\.

In masters, I think timing attacks and expo timings play a huge role. Maybe if you work on that with tip-top macro, you might make it
|
Wow, only 400 games.. I must be slow or something.
|
I went though the B-Masters videos, but I can't handle toss all-ins, which is all they do in diamond. I don't play games vs toss that last longer than 15 mins anymore. How do you survive it all?
