Joke aside, making your place look nice is a great treat for yourself, and very good for inviting friends and lovers. I believe a good place will give you peace and mental relaxation.
I've always been a fan of interior design, especially modern themed ones. I don't have a career or job related to it, but it's always been a hobby of mine to decorate the place you call home.
Recent modernistic designs are based on simple clean colors, like white, and presenting a sense of spaciousness. This means that unnecessary items are out, large furnishings are out, and Victorian-looking furniture are out. The crisp white color gives a clean and fresh feeling to your room. Your furniture don't have to be fancy futuristic furniture..they just have to be stylish imo.
I tend to stay away from unpainted wooden furniture, but if I do have to pick them, I go for the lighter colored ones:
I believe any natural color darker than this for natural wooden furniture will kill the modernistic feel. This is as dark as you should go
But I tend to aim for something more like this:
The black color brings out the most in the white. Soothing and trendy feel.
White and Red is also a good color to work with.
Anyway, I've come across my biggest challenge yet. I've come to Japan, the land of compact apartments and no space and overpriced wooden furnitures.
I'm moving into my new apartment starting this weekend, and truthfully, I'm kind of stumped.
The apartment consists of kitchen, bathroom, and a room. The bedroom is the living room. The bedroom is very small. It's about 6 square meters, 340cm long x 250 cm wide. I want to have a bed, a desk, and a small sofa seat in there.
Sadly, good lofts are hard to find here. All the ones I see here are clunky metallic ones that feels cheap. I would prefer lofts like this:
I've been looking into space-saving furniture, but my options here are limited. IKEA doesn't have a great selection of lofts and neither do many local furniture shops. I have been trying to think outside-the-box to save space and still preserve the modernistic feel.
Perfect solution to my problems. Space-saving and modernistic.

Unfortunately, the above is only a design, and not an actual item for sale in the market. If only there was a way to get my hands on it...ahem.
I've been thinking about buying a large desk, and then putting this pull-out bed from under it:
If anyone has any suggestions for my new project, please post them. Feel free to show off what you've done with your place as well.
