I've lost some games recently due to some greediness or sloppy micro. However, I always ask for re in such situations because I feel I could do better than that. The problem is people never give me a rematch.
Is it me or did people become cowards/bm? I mean sure they won, but I think players should respect each other and give them a second chance. I think it's fair that way.
Also can we have some kind of discussion please? Are there a lot of people who don't give you a rematch after a ladder/custom game? Do you think there is a good reason if they don't even though it's not about lack of time?
|
Uh...probably because they don't want to play again.
|
It's because they are probably sucked into blizzard's system of trying to spend their bonus pool and getting up in the rankings (playing more = more rankings, even if ur doing bad)
|
The nature of ladder is that you usually don't face the same opponent many times in a row. People who care about climbing the ladder can therefore conclude that the most efficient way to beat the ladder is to practice ONE strategy. The usual downside to only using one strategy is that you become predictable. That is one possible reason they don't feel like playing you again.
Other normal reasons: they are done playing, they don't like your style, they want to play someone else etc. Cowardly? I think that's you being butt hurt because you lost because you're bad. Do I like playing the same people multiple times in a row? Yes, because I like the variety that forces games to have. But that is not the best way to play ladder. If people play casually, it is polite to give re's. On the ladder you should not expect it because people play for points and record.
|
I always give the rematch if people ask for it. Generally, I prefer playing with those people, because they're genuinely trying to improve, and they can end up being cool practice partners/teammates for team games later on.
If the other person is just being bm, then I probably have no reason to accept it, unless it's a pride match :D and then I make sure I win, haha.
But yeah, I think most people don't like to because they'd rather just focus on improving their ranking on the ladder.

Most of the peope asking for rematches do it because they're furious that they lost, and they're still caught up in their illusion of superiority. Everytime someone asks me for a rematch, they're being a dick about it. It's also a waste of time dealing with noobs. If they cheesed you, they're gonna do it again.
A real example to prove my point:
|
... The ladder is not designed for competition, it's designed to give you something to do. The person who beat you just wanted to play a videogame, not have an epenis sword fight.
|
Did he manner match you wtf is going on in that game??

A real example to prove my point: This is what I was thinking as well especially after this line:
"Is it me or did people become cowards/bm? I mean sure they won, but I think players should respect each other and give them a second chance. I think it's fair that way. "
Makes me think that your personality might be part of why they don't want to rm you depending on what you say.... If you lose a game and ask nicely for a rematch or to add to friend to practice some time I doubt they'd reject you.
That line makes me think an exaggerated situation of what actually happens might go like this: "man i played so shitty that game, thats why i lost, rematch?" "uhh maybe later" "lol you coward? you scared? why so bm?" Player is ignoring you. lol bm coward"
It's probably not that extreme but like I said, if you're cordial enough I doubt they'll refuse to ever play you again at least in my experience.
Other reasons they may not want to rematch among the other reasons people pointed out is that I'm guessing by your icon you play protoss? It can be boring to play against protoss relatively compared to other MU's (even a decent amount of P don't like playing against P). Atm either through metagame or design it often feels like you are either playing vs an all in or a turtle to death ball max. Compared to TvT ,TvZ or ZvZ it's not nearly as engaging from both sides. (I realize if you play P from your perspective it's probably doesn't seem boring or less engaging, but for Z/T it can be boring to play against P relative to their other MU's.). Outside of korea protoss also seems to be the most commonly played race by quite a bit so relatively boring MU + having to play that MU the most often on ladder can contribute to them not wanting to play it again.
This is also just my opinion, i'm sure some people find it fun to play as and vs P over the other races, just talking based from what I've seen. But as I said I think if you ask nicely most people will be willing to play you, if not right at the moment then later. Demanding they rm you right after the game is kind of... eh...

Why would anyone want a rematch? Except if you are friends or already playing a custom game?
If some random dude on ladder asks me for a RE I don't want to, because I don't have many close games, and the few I do get people just start BMing (and I'm not going to turn down a direct invitation to smacktalk). And if it were completely one-sided why would you ever want a regame? If I get stomped and want to improve I play vs my friends.
But seriously, if you think people are BM or cowards if they don't want to regame then I must say you are pretty stupid. Internet's not fair, neither is life, and respect on the ladder unless you meet someone that is popular/you know is so rare it barely even exists.
If you made a mistake and want a regame it is to be expected that people will say no, you made the mistake, your problem, not theirs.
(Sorry if I sounded like a doucebag)

Well, it's like that most of the time: http://prikachi.com/images/729/4706729o.jpg
I see no reason why re is refused. Sometimes there is not even an answer. Btw, I used to get a lot more rematches in BW. Just wondering why it's not the same anymore. I've not changed my way of asking since then.
Edit: I ask for re because I think I can make a better game and, perhaps, win. Why not if the other guy feels competitive too?

To the more childish of gamers... asking for a rematch is invalidating their current victory over you.
"rematch plox?" comes off as "LOL, if I were playing my B game I woulda smashed the shit out of you! I dare you to try me again nub!"
That, or they genuinely dislike playing against your playstyle. Or they just want to bask in their victory in peace.
|
If you're pissed enough to ask for a rematch... I don't want to play with you in the first place. why the fuck would I ever want to play with you again?
|
Sometimes people want to continue to ladder, sometimes people think your going to BM them or do some kind of cheese. I have rematched people and they get very angry or do some all in cheese then BM. This is why I wouldnt rematch someone on ladder.
|
When people ask for a rematch, I split them into two categories.
1) People who say they want to practice versus me for various reasons (want to learn how to beat my playstyle, think I'm good player and want macro games, crazy match and want to play more funny matches).
2) Then there's the people who want to have a rematch because they simply want to try and win. They'll come up with stupid reasons for losing and might say "I'll play seriously this time and you will have no chance of winning". These are the butthurt people who can't accept losing and want to have a sense of superiority over you.
I only accept rematches from people in category 1. Most people just want to ladder and get higher ranks so if you're asking them to custom because you think you can beat them and nothing else then they're unlikely to accept. The only reason I see people accepting rematches is if a game was really close or if they had fun.

Did you consider that maybe he had no idea what the hell you were talking about? I dunno what league you're in, but the highest "NeverSayDie" is only plat. I doubt everyone at that level knows that "re" is short for "rematch." Maybe if you asked "could we play another game?" you'd receive a better response.

I've lost some games recently due to some greediness or sloppy micro.
No, that's not why you lost. Winning/losing is relative to your opponent's performance. You can still win with sloppy micro or greediness if your opponent is inferior. You lost not because you played poorly, but because your opponent played better than you.
It's not always about you.
Just because people don't want a rematch doesn't mean they're cowards and afraid of you.
It's not always about you.

Try this next time and take a screen shot and let me know how it works. Instead of saying "re?" and then if he says anything other than "yes" saying "re? why no re?" try this :
First say "gg" you can add wp if you want. Leave the game(you can say it in game too I guess) Message opponent after game: "Hey, gg I've been wanting to practice (xvp) would you be willing to play another game please?" or maybe. "Hey gg, I've been wanting to work on (x mistake that you made) can we play another game please?"
Compare that to: "re?" "re?" "why no re?"
Talk like a human being talking to a human being not a caveman talking to a dog and you will get better results I think. (This applies IRL as well) You won't get 100% success rate of rematches, but you will probably get a better response than you do atm and maybe get some practice partners / make some friends. If someone wanted a rematch and approached me like that, you can bet I'd probably say no. Because as the other guy pointed out, there's two categories of people who want rematch, and atm I'd assume you are in category 2.

Most people probably don't have the time. Recently, I actually played a protoss who wanted a rematch twice after a ladder match just to procrastinate some more. I defeated him (I assume it was a him) with a 7-pool during the ladder match, and then I proceeded to beat him twice more in custom maps. Both times he knew I was 7-pooling because he asked me to lol >.>, and we were both in diamond.
