Basically I want replays, a ton of them. I'm looking for ideas/suggestions as to how I can gather replay files.
Here are my general thoughts so far.
I'm going to email the skillcraft guys (http://skillcraft.ca) to see if they can release their replays (altho I highly doubt they will due to confidentiality).
I don't want to use replays of bronze - diamond level games uploaded to replay sites since those games were uploaded for a reason (i.e. something rare occurred) so they wont be representative of the typical bronze - diamond level game. I would assume that a cannon-rush or 6-10 pool would be quite common in bronze - diamond but how many of these replays would actually make it to a replay site? Probably very few.
I've searched TL and reddit and as far as i can tell Skillcraft was the only attempt so far to gather replays from the entire community. Perhaps there was some study that I've missed? or some collection of replays that exists already?
There's also day9 who gathers I imagine hundreds/thousands of replays per week for his various dailies. But again I feel as though these would all be skewed in some way or another due to the theme of that particular week. I doubt anyone who suffers a standard (i.e. boring) win/loss in the lower leagues would send in the replay to day9. But if day9 were to put out a call for any replays, good or bad, that would work fine. So if someone who can contact him directly is reading this, ask if he would do a "give me everything" type replay collection for me, that'd be awesome :D
I'll also see if I can get replays from my local starcraft society (sydney, australia). They have a few hundred members so that could be promising. If you think that your local sc2 community is large-ish and would like to help by giving me replays, send me a pm. On a similar note, does anyone know where the largest sc2 communities are based and how I can contact them?
That's what I've got so far. Is there something I've missed?
As for what I will do with the replays, not quite sure as yet as the project hasn't been released so I'm not sure what is required. But in the past the project has been quite open ended, so I'm reasonably confident that I can do something on SC2.
