Play the playhem or other dailies.

That'll shake your nerves and put you well out of your comfort zone.

Even if the games are easy to start with, you'll get smashed by someone sooner or later.

At least we know blizzards plan to falsely boost your confidence with the ladder leagues is working. This would never happen on iccup D:

just play 20-30 more games and you'll eventually get your MMR in the right place.

It's just so weird to see someone in gold league not wanting to play because the game seems to easy for him.
It's like complaining guitar is to easy because you can play 3 nirvana songs. Just play more and you'll find things that are REALLY challenging.

The idea of GG to me, is the same as the line up at the end of a sporting even where both teams cross mid field and give each other high fives and say 'Good Game' to each individual player.

It's about congratulating the player you're playing against for doing there best, even if they came up a little short. Or perhaps in your case, far short.

I'm playing against high Golds, mid Plats, and I got a game in against a Diamond level Protoss as well.

Seriously, guys?

I am very disappointed, it is clear that the modern Teamliquid Blog Troll Detection team is not living up the high standards set by its predecessors.

Its not even a good brag. "Hey guys I'm so good I beat this diamond player one time and I regularly outmacro gold players."

I think you should probably stop laddering op, when you play better players and discover that you're not in fact as good as you think you are at the game it might cause critical damage to your ego, a shock this big might send you into a coma.

I'm not a doctor but I could be if I could be bothered to do 7 years of med school so you should listen to me when I tell you to never ladder again or you might go into a permanent coma.

As hard as it may be, you will play better and be in a better mindset if you GG every game (whether or not you think your opponent played a "good" game)

ITT the point flies over everyone's heads.

I'm well aware that I'm not some Code-S player. My point isn't that "omg I'm so good that I should be rank 1 GM". My point is that I want to log in to Starcraft, queue up for a ladder game, and have a legitimate challenge. At the moment the people I'm getting matched against aren't challenging for me to beat. The ladder is meant to give you players that are around your skill level to play and practice against, but at the moment I'm facing people that are boring to play against, and with the small amount of time I have to play each day it's hard to justify using that time to play on the ladder.

I guess my frustration is getting unfairly displaced onto my opponents with the whole lack of GG thing, which a lot of you latched onto way more than I expected.

I was more talking about GGing after I win. (i.e. after we both leave the game, sending my opponent "GG, wp") I used to do this after every game, mostly because it was sincere, and now I can't really justify it.

I always GG at a loss though. It's hard to play a game that challenges you more than a game you lost. =P

If you're only in gold/plat, then nothing you are going can be thought of as good either, so your opponents shouldn't gg you.
SC2 is a manner game, you should gg at the end when you lose. When you win, you don't have to because the person you play against will generally leave after he ggs.

If you're not finding a challenge when you're playing now, then keep on winning. Go on a 20 game win streak and get your mmr up to masters. If you're not korean gm level, then you will at some point find a challenge on ladder. i played my friends account and went on a 20 game win streak and it put me from bronze to masters. It doesn't matter if you did this in 1 week, like I did, or 6 months, because blizz doesn't care how much time you take to play unless you skip 2 seasons in a row and your mmr resets.

Keep on playing when you can, try to entertain yourself by microing and macroing, and at some point you will get a challenge on ladder.

Someone gets it! Thanks for the response =D You're the only person to not assume I'm a raging narcissist. =P

I think BW iCCup ladder is good for that. If you can play the game a little, you are D. When you are really decent, you are D+. When you are actually good you are C- or even C. Everything beyond, you are an elite player.

For someone who doesn't know the game, a C player is something unbelievable, since you need very decent mechanics (200 / + apm usually) to reach that level.

I have heard that a SC2 ladder equivalent would mean that everybody below master would be more or less D, mayyybe D+. In BW, you really needed to be amazing to start taking pride of your play. Coming and say "yoyo I'm awesome, I'm D+" is not something people would do, because below D+ was only D and D-, and on top of it was all the way to A+. While on the SC2 ladder, people take pride and start to brag because they got into diamond or gold or I don't know what and so they have a zillion copper / aluminium / iron / cotton / whatever material noob divisions below them.

tl;dr: play BW to discover that you suck and you should never ever take pride of your play until you reach grand master or something like that. Because if you don't, you are bad. Don't try to find excuses, don't try to think "I could be there"; you are not. And yes, 99,99% people are bad. And do gg, whether you lose or win. Your opponent didn't play well and is not worth gging after he loses? Good news, you played bad too, and you are probably just as awful as he is. You will start being able to say "I'm so good I don't need to gg" without looking like a douche when you are IdrA, not before. And actually, even if you reach his level, do gg, because himself too looks like an immature arrogant kid when he doesn't.

I'd agree with you in regards to viewing ladder rankings as an absolute measurement of skill; being in Gold or Paltinum or even Diamond isn't really brag-worthy, it just means you have a decent understanding what to do and the mechanics to do it.

I'm not sure if you were responding to my OP or not, but if you were I feel I should clarify; I'm not saying that I deserve to be in Platinum or Diamond with my play. In fact, it's not even about how I "deserve" a higher ranking or league; I just want the ladder to match me up with more skilled players so I can start losing and be forced to improve more than I am currently.

As for gging whether I lose or win, every loss should be gg'ed to. I think that's just a given, as if you lose your opponent did play a good game, for sure. But gging to a player you beat with ease - say a Protoss on one base with 3 stalkers at 8 minutes - just seems downright dishonest and condescending. It'll never come off as anything but sarcastic. It wasn't a good game, I A-clicked your main with 10 roaches and won. That is the kind of stuff I don't feel like saying gg to.

My criteria for a good game is more or less having a moment where I am worried or surprised by something my opponent is doing. If I win a game where I felt worried or surprised, I now have something to prove my honesty when I tell my opponent it was a good game; I can point out how scary their push was, or how unexpected their techswitch to air was. Without something specific to compliment and say "Damn, that thing you did was really cool!" a post-game gg from the winner just comes off as dickish and condescending.

I'm not winning and telling my opponent how "EZ" he is or how he should just uninstall; I'm just not lying to my opponent's face and claiming a boring game was a good game.

I don't see the point of this blog.

So you don't want to gg people when they leave the game. Well duh, no one does that.

So you make a post to complain about how you're not being given a challenge, you title it "Typing GG is hard for me", then when people get "caught up" on the whole gg part of the post (which I'd like to remind you, is the title of the thread) and they point out that all you have to do is play more to get that challenge you want, you claim that the point flies over everyone's head?

You either have no idea how to get your point across, or you actually did have some ulterior motive when posting this, maybe even subconsciously if you want to argue that you had no such intentions.
Take my hand. Take my whole life too.

Probably the first one. If I had to guess I'd say my attempt to make my writing humorous/entertaining rather than purely informative is the problem. I can convey an idea with excellent clarity and specificity, but it is the most dry reading you could ever be presented. =\

Only thing I can do is keep trying I suppose.
