I will be leaving for Kansas tomorrow morning to go to my grandma's house for a vacation for a week... and *gasp* she does not have internet. Also she lives in the middle of nowhere so no stealing internets from neighbors I already have someone who's going to prepare a spoiler-free schedule for me for keeping up with the starcrafts. However what I'm struggling with right now is what to do on the road / while I'm in Kansas as I'm usually very bored.
Something to keep in mind is that I will only be bringing my ASUS netbook that has: Windows 7 Starter Intel Atom CPU N450 @ 1.66GHz w/ 1 GB of RAM and no CD Drive Needless to say this is not a top of the line computer but it's not feasible to take my desktop with me.
What I've prepared so far: Brood War (I've never really played BW other than UMS but since offline only single player would be available) Pokémon ROMs (haven't played pokémon in forever but figured it might be fun)
I'm looking for more options of games that are fun that can be played offline and on this crappy netbook. Any help is super awesomely appreciated.

daiblo 1 & 2 (with the single player mods especially, make it so nice having infinite stash room!) are fantastic rollercoaster tycoon is always entertaining fallout 1 & 2 are classics Simcity 3000 was unexplainably entertaining for me.
And you could also just get a snes/ps1 emulator for games like chrono trigger, megaman x & x-2, super metroid, etc etc.
gl hf exploring the true purpose of netbooks lol
edit: if you haven't read Song of Ice and Fire, do that instead of what I posted.

I played the shit outta that game and not sure if offline would be the same. SNES Emulator for other games is a good idea... that's quite alot of hours of fun if i find the right game

I Love Civ IV but I'm thinking too much for this poor computer... I've had it crash on Minecraft quite a few times. Quite a few have mentioned baldur's gate... a game i've never played.

Morrowind runs on my similarly shitty netbook although not at a very high fps.

Assuming that you are bringing some type of ds emulator to play Pokemon, I can really recommend Phoenix Wright. It's especially fun if your emulator can pick up sound from your mic.
|
Age of Wonders (the original) is turn-based and quite cute.
|
regarded as one of the best games ever made: XCOM UFO Defense

Baldurs Gate (+ 2) Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Whichever FFs you prefer Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Diablo 2

You can also get emulators for N64, SNES, NES, and GBA, there's a lot of great games for those consoles: Ogre Battle 64 Chrono Trigger Super Mario RPG LOTSS Any FF game

Netbook - net = book?
Well played, first reply-er!

I'm in a similar situation as you are (although hopefully I should be able to get a new laptop soon), although I do have internet. Still, as someone mentioned, get yourself some ol' school RPGs (Baldur's gate, Darklands, Icewind Dale, etc), get BW, WC3 (should run on that comp, it's not heavy on reqs), etc
Some turn-based games might be really cool to get as well: Civilization, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (probably one of the best, used to play it with a bunch of friends all the time), Age of Wonders (pretty darn good)...

Thanks for all the responses. Downloading Baldur's Gate 2 (I love Bioware RPGs but this one was before my time, so I hope I'll enjoy it) Also checking out Alpha Centauri (I had never heard of this game, but I loved Civ IV (and Civ V a little) so it looks interesting. Also I remembered Curse of Monkey Island and am downloading that.

Heroes of Might and Magic 2 was one of my favorites. You could also try Theme Park / Theme Hospital.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3
Why? Because it is freaking awesome, you will get immersed in the story and the music is awesome and also to finish a scenario you will take some time, when you see you will have spent 5h in a blink of an eye. And if you have read ASOIAF then things get 100x more epic.

Cave story. most of the games people are recommending need a mouse!

DS won't emulate on a netbook, well, smoothly at least.

go without the games and enjoy life without the internet for a week imo.

Sounds like a great chance to spend some quality time with your grandmother!!
I think you should revisit some classics, stuff you'd never play otherwise like warcraft 2, some diablo, any other single player (I guess i'm going with a Blizzard theme here) game

The Might and Magic (not heroes of MM) series.
HIGHLY recommend MM VII, definitely try out VI - VIII.

Get SNES emulator, beat all the classic RPG awesome games. Final Fantasy's for SNES, Illusion of Gaia, Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana/Evermore. Zelda Link to the Past.
For PC , make an awesome rollar coaster tycoon park and beat diablo 1.
To kick the shit and kill time, Plants vs Zombies, Grim Fandago, Secret of Monkey Island series.
Get some movies, or shows, watch em. Breaking Bad Series will keep you entertained for a week. Or The Wire.

Yah I mean, they made NINE games in the series so that has to speak some volume. The first Might and Magic game was released in 1986 for the Apple II, DOS, Commodore 64, etc.
I might do a "MM Let's Play!" type of thing when I have more time, cRPGs are fucking amazing.

Have you considered taking this opportunity being away from the internet to do something unusual? If you just do what you always do it's not going to be terribly interesting. It sounds like a quiet place that would be good for a creative project Ever wanted to write or paint?
Well, the suggestions in this thread aren't bad for games. Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy games are fun, if you just wanna search for roms.

I've been going through the Diablo's for the first time and they're pretty excellent.
Imperial Conquest 2 download the abandonware. Yeah! It's an old school turn based strategy from the mid 90's. Very cool concepts in the game that I really haven't seen elsewhere. Need to campaign in summer/ fall and split up your armies in the winter due to food shortages. Turn based tactical board with a morale system where you can route their troops- very poor to average to elite training and size of armies making the difference.
Play Rome, Carthage, Ptolemy, Selucid or some dinky country like Dacia or Illyria. Probably no-one would like it in this day and age, but I think it's awesome. Can hotseat with other people.
