Hey TL!
I have a bunch of friends and we love getting together on weekends online and playing various games online or over Hamachi. We played League of Legends for a while, SC and WC3 ums maps, Minecraft, and we've recently finished Terraria. We're looking for more online/LAN games that we can play.
Requirements: -Casual -Cooperative preferred, open to all ideas -Good for sessions of 4-8 hour lengths -4 players
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Have you guys played Left 4 Dead 2 yet? Funnest coop game out there
|
|
Team fortress two? I believe its free now
|
Red Alert 2 is always a classic.
|
UT2004 Onslaught is always fun
|
Age of Empires 2. Average game length~ 4 hours.
|
Battlefield 1942 4 Vs 60 bots hours of fun.
|
Payday: The Heist? It's a bit like Left 4 Dead, but instead of fighting zombies you're doing heists.
|
Borderlands is a decent co-op FPS RPG
|
If youre not up for the standard FPS coops you can try something like Gunbound (Classic) :D
It's turn based, so that might be a turnoff. But otherwise, 4v4 is hilarious (2v2 is also not bad), sessions of 3ish hours are pretty nice.

borderlands is basically fallout3+diablo2 and is great if you played/enjoyed those games as well
|
Worms. How is Worms never suggested? Quake of course. Age of Empires II Battlefield is always fun with friends
|
Well he did say co-op... Worms, Quake, and so on are all versus.

he's open to all suggestions. Pretty sure you can make teams.

Everything people suggested here, but worms, worms and more worms is my fave.
Serious sam is also fucking hillarious in co-op.

split up in teams of 2 and play saints row 3 and resident evil 5, very good co op games!
|
Killing Floor is pretty fun if you like Zombie-type games. I can also recommend some League of Legends playing against the AI. I just started, played like 3 hours, but it's really fun!

Borderlands is really fun. And it is made to play with 4 people in coop.
We bought it all for 7€ last December from Steam. Worth it.

Magicka is a fun little co-op game. Not suggested if you can't actually work together though, some people have more fun killing their teammates rather than figuring out how to combine your awesome powers for the greater good. Friendly fire will happen though... and it will be hilarious.
Left4Dead (and 2) is awesome fun for coop. If you and your friends are decent FPS players, trying to beat it on expert mode is a fun and challenging cooperative shooter exercise. If Player vs. player is more your thing, you can try to play online too in vs mode.
Borderlands is a good game if are willing to be in it for the long run, since it's sorta Diablo-like in it's level progression (and repeating the game on higher difficulties to gain additional levels). The upgrade and loot system is also pretty Diablo-like, with prized rare randomly dropped weapons being very valuable and useful to all involved.

Alien Swarm! - 3rd person shooter - co-op, up to (and recommended) 4 players - your squad will complete various missions, blasting through unending waves of aliens - simple controls and gameplay: you don't need to be a seasoned FPS veteran to play this - will require teamwork - FREE, on steam. COMPLETELY FREE - various difficulties to suit your needs (brutal WILL BE BRUTAL) - good for a 3-hour session, especially on higher difficulties
My personal experience with Alien Swarm: it's super-fun for a couple hours. Really need solid teamwork, especially on insane and brutal difficulties. Highly entertaining, friendly fire is hilarious, don't troll the engineer because you'll most likely need him to survive to complete the missions. Completed it on insane difficulty with a team of 4, all 4 of us "knew what we were doing" and planned out every stage strategically.

Allegiance

This game is a bit complex, and has larger game sizes that you're looking for, but it's the most cooperative game I think I've ever played online. It's basically an intergalactic war where you can be a commander, a miner, a bomber, a gunner, a scout etc.
You work with your team to mine asteroids, make bases and take a defend multiple sectors connected by warp zones called Alephs.
Oh and it's free! I enjoy it.
Here's a couple of screenshots

Thanks for the awesome suggestions everyone. My friends and I read all your posts, and we have decided to go with Borderlands. It looks awesome! We'll still need another game after we're done with Borderlands, so if anyone still has any suggestions, keep em coming!

Titan Quest.
It's a hack and slash action RPG. Beautiful visuals considering it's quite old now. Adventure through mythical Greece, Egypt and the Far East! Difficulty scales based on the number in your party. And there's so much content. My friend and I have played for 50 hours and we're only 2/3 of the way through the first campaign. Then there's another campaign added by the expansion. And when you've finished on Normal difficulty, you have two harder difficulty levels to try. If you like a game where you don't have to overthink things, and if you enjoy clicking on lots of enemies until they die then you'll enjoy it. Throw in a huge load of loot variety as well. I've played a fair bit of it with three players, and I should think with 4 players it would be great fun.
