Hi, it's like in the title. I tried nicotine plasters but they stopped working after 4-5 days and I wanted to smoke even while wearing them. Should I try 2 plasters at a time or what?

Smoking makes feel sick, I sometimes even throw up after a cigarette depending on what I ate or drunk. I cough badly after each cigarette. I used to be able to run up stairs for several floors but now I am losing my breath and feel weakened.

I am currently smoking 15 - 20 cigarettes a day. When I'm laddering I can smoke as often as after each game played which means a cigarette every 15-25 minutes.
It's strong ones but menthol also.

I quit smoking 2 times for a total of 13 months but each time I was sick enough not to smoke.
1 time running helped but I am too lazy to start really doing that now.

I am really looking forward to your help, I could really use more money - it's a few weeks abroad trip a year for the amount of money I spend on cigarettes. When I'm laddering it also annoys me that I have to lose my time instead jumping right in into the next game.

Thank you for your help in advance!

you need consider to stop playing sc2 since it's a conduit for further smoking.
uhh you need to find another activity or geographic location that PREVENTS you from smoking. or something...

i have completely unqualified or knowledgeable in this field so.... as an argument / idea... i have NOTHING supporting what i just said so... yeah.

edit:or play sc2 in a place where you can't smoke...
im assuming you are playing at home and smoking at home... so... you are doing most of your smoking at home... so you need to avoid home? ahh idk..... im like... using the WORST logic ever... but... yeah T__T;;

The tips I can give you is to not use any of that stuff. I didnt really help me when I quit at all. What helped me was to get a good routine and get up and go out jogging for 30 mins the 4-5 times a week. When I started I was in really bad shape and could only run for 15 mins or so but I pretty much did it every morning for a month and I could feel I got better so that kept me fighitng the cigarettes as well. Who would like to take a cigarette after a 30 min jogging session ?! And who would like to ruin the pain and effort that was put into jogging. Ofcourse, some days I had trouble and in the afternoon I took a cigarette but I realiased that the more I trained the less I smoked and it helped me get rid of it. Make sure you dont have cigarettes at home and if possible that you dont live with a smoker. Also, try to get new routines and maybe you need to avoid the computer for a while if thats where you tend to smoke.

I used tabacco for about 6-7 years and I smoked a pack a day. I took almost a year to quit completly. At first I could only stay away from nicotine for a day or so. Then I could handle a week and then a month. I guess if you challange yourself and is awsome you could do it in one try though!

As a funny side note Im a huge tolkien fan and I use to think that it was sauron that was trying to control my mind by telling me to take a cigarette. Are you as strong as frodo ?

Try e-cigs maybe. I have been using them for a bit over 2 weeks now and have went from a pack a day to a pack every 4-5 days.

Edit: Also yes as mentioned above SC2 is going to make you want to smoke a bunch, I'd find a game you can play casually until ur getting somewhere with it.

Sounds like the nicotine addiction may be less of a factor than the actual act of smoking. Perhaps you could try biscuit sticks or a suitable alternative instead. There is a nicotine "cigarette" replacement device but it's quite expensive and (at least locally) only available at a (registered) pharmacy.

You may try to program yourself - for example:
1. Get a smell or a food that you find disgusting. Everytime you have a lust for cigarette you also need to "punish" yourself by eating/smelling the thing.
2. After you smoke a cigarette you need to do something - for example 30 pushups.

Why do people nowadays need the easiest way out for every problem.. if you really want to get away of it get some balls and throw your cigs away and set a mindset to never touch it again. The easiest way is mostly the least effective one...My father and my grandpa did it that way..they smoked for 40 years, then stopped from one day to another and never touched a cigarette again.. if they can do it, you can do it to...if you can't make it, you probably dont wanna stop smoking.

Maybe a little help....at least it helped me a bit: think of it, you don't wanna be controlled by freakin little cigarette, which costs about nothing, and you for sure don't wanna be killed because of a freaking little cigarette which are there for no other reason than to make you addicted and bring the tabacco industry more money, where certain people will get your money. It is just a cigarette... nothing more, nothing less.

I've smoked for about 20 years now lol, since I was 17 and I've quit for periods of years (1-3 year stretches) and I do smoke occasionally still, but since the birth of by two kids, starting 4 years ago, I've kept smoking down to just social occasions. The most I use to smoke was about 2 packs a day- basically whenever I light up, I smoke 3 cigarettes and whenever I step outside I smoke a cigarette and when I drink, I'm literally smoking non-stop for 4 hours straight.

The ONLY time I ever really quit, quit- ( because most of the time I really haven't quit, I'm just trying not to smoke and there is a big difference from trying not to smoke and actually quitting )- was when I looked at a cigarette and thought it was disgusting that it was killing me. So when people were smoking around me or offering me a smoke, when I said 'no' I didn't have any feeling of missing out.

Truth is I loved smoking, I enjoyed every aspect of it and even when I felt sick from it, I'd just lay off for a few days and get back into it. But smoking for so long has had its impact on my health. My skin has aged considerably, and more importantly I had signs of early cardiovascular disease. Basically after I smoked a ciggy, I'd lose feeling in my hands and toes or sometimes I'd feel sharp pain across my forehead from the lack of blood circulation. What makes it a disease is that, even after I wouldn't smoke for a while, the effects wouldn't wear off.

Of course I had a major scare, but even then I didn't quit, wtf right? But once I really realized that it was killing me, that this was really crazy/disgusting and stupid shit that I was doing, I was able to just quit cold turkey because it just wasn't an option whatsoever. That being said, socially, I do smoke once in a while, and it is because I am healthier, but I've once again come into that mindset that ciggies aren't disgusting/killing poison, but just sharing the only time in my life where I really didn't touch or want to smoke and that was for about 3 years.

Cheers

e-cigs, they are seriously the business. My buddy smoked for 10+ years and got on blue light and hasn't looked back. Seriously, it's the fucking biznazzzz

Also I hear chocolate helps feed addiction since it releases endorphins in your brain which is the same chemical you get when you are addicted to anything.

You just explained how to train a dog sir.
The human brain is too logical to have a action-reaction train of thought.

To the OP: When I quit my motivation was the day I visited my Dads house. I live on the east coast and I have to fly to the west coast whenever I want to see him. I had some time off work (by time off I mean laid off) so I went to visit him. During the night I woke up to hear my father coughing his lungs out. Literally, He was coughing up blood. He's too stubborn to go to the doctor. My Dad has been smoking for 30 years.

good advice here. I smoked on and off and the best thing was to stay away from sc2 and bw also, I try not to hang with my smoker buddies and run everyday. doing this gave me less reasons to smoke and gradually I cut it down quite a lot. i used to smoke like a chimney, but now since I took away all the factors that make me want to smoke, I don't have that urge.

we're more like animals than you think. for instance I have a friend who auto-gags when ever you spit near her... it's just a weird reflex because she trained her mind to do something.... rather twisted

You'll always want to smoke. That's just something you have to accept. The longer you quit, the less you'll want them, but it will never really go away completely. My mom told my dad to quit smoking when they started dating, so he quit cold turkey. He basically just stayed grumpy for years and got less and less grumpy over time. If you want a cool, manly story to tell, go that route!

If you ever need some motivation, just remember that if you keep smoking your chances of dying in incredible pain are pretty good! One of the common justifications for smoking is "Well, I'm just cutting off the 10 worst years." That's not quite correct. You're moving forward the 10 worst years and making them much worse. Both my grandparents on my dad's side were smokers and both died early in terrible pain.

my grandpa was a smoker for decades until the doctor told him to quit smoking or risk being dead soon. So he simply quit cold turkey it wasnt easy and my grandma told me some stories how he was running around the appartment late at night but he managed to do it.

So my advice would be just do it. There are no excuses
