There is no incentive for the other player to believe you once you announce the race.

Day9 has the best way of playing random, and that is play a race for each day/practice session.

Alternatively, tell yourself "Once I lose 1 game, i switch races"

tvz - reactor hellion. nuff said.

pvp - 1 gate robo into 3 gates, or straight 3 gate

pvz - ffe exclusively. just need to scout effectively, and it becomes the most solid opening.

those are my suggestions

Roll dat dice. 1/2 zerg 3/4 terran 5/6 protss.

The way I do it is usually playing x games as random, just to see which race/mu needs most work on, and then I focus solely on that for a good while

Edit:

zvz- ling/baneling wars will happen. Just get ready for that
tvz- reactor hellions. I know it's been said. But seriously. reactor. Hellions.

I've been going random since mid season. It's a lot more interesting and fun than going same race all the time(used to be terran). It gets really annoying because everyone expects you to do something cheesy, so you can never really play standard. My only advice is to keep allins and cheeses in your mind as you're laddering, and good luck!

oh lol, yeah that makes sense now, should have figured -_-

I wondered what the webcomic had to do with SC2 Protoss builds.

As Terran Learn builds you can use against all 3 races.

2 rax expand/pressure (gasless)
1 rax FE
Reaper Expand
Banshee Expand
1-1-1
Reactor hellion expand (not so good against protoss)

Sure there is.

I always believe people, and if they lie, I just quit the game - instead of wasting my time

Advancing to masters will be much harder as a random player than for a specific race, because the matchups are so different. The effort needed is probably more than 3 times that of playing one race.

Announce race at the start of the game. I want to really learn all 3 races, so I don't want to disrupt my opponents BOs because they don't know my race (i.e. Protoss can go FFE if they know I'm Zerg).

I do this, but people dont believe me and protoss still do gateway walloff builds when i random zerg

Random? This message is approved

Most people in masters actually seem to believe me when I tell race. Or at least, I face a very large amount of FFEs in ZvP

Not really. While knowing matchups etc is important, the most important aspect of SC is mechanics and macro. Pro players are top masters with all races even if they more or less never use them because their mechanics are so good. I'm platinum zerg and got to gold immediately on a terran smurf account even though I had never used T on ladder and I lost 2 placement matches on purpose.

It's probably true for most people from plat and up that their offraces are about the same league or one league lower. It's harder for masters since macro makes a smaller difference the higher you go, but saying it's more than 3 times the effort... nah.

Gl hf with your goals but don't 2rax TvP. Toss are so used to it and against a 1gate expo you shouldn't be able to do much damage (whether you go with shells or shields) and then 7gates/6gate robo are REALLLLLLLY hard to hold off. And vs anything not a 1gate expo (3gate void, 3gate robo, 4gate robo) you won't have enough units by off 2rax to hold (most times). Maybe vs 3gate blink. I'd either go 1rax expo or something like what vileIllusion does (he goes cloak banshee with hellion drops into mech).

As for TvT, something with mech is really vague. I'd go Thorzains 1rax expo, as one rax expo is fine for holding anything (reaper/hellion/medivac play can be really annoying though) or gas first not cloak banshee into mech if you want mech.

1-1-1 is terrible vs Zerg (again, imo), mass ling just crushes you. If the Z sees you haven't expanded (and stops droning around 30 and pumps lings you'll get destroyed horribly). And reactor hellion works decently vs Toss, esp when they 1gate expo as you force them to stay at home and can often get ~10 probe kills. Just remember to get a bunker depending on how fast you see their stalker coming.

I always am happy to match randoms because I feel if I can survive the early game, I have an advantage in the late game but gl hf to you!

Just a BTW, your MMR doesn't reset every season (it never does as far as I know). The only thing that resets is your wins (and losses if you're masters+), your ladder rank and league.

Correct me if I'm wrong ^^

You're wrong.
If a player doesn't play a single game for a full season (so he's not even assigned to a league when ladder resets), then he gets full MMR wipe (5 placement matches instead of 1 and against bronze opponents instead of previous level).

Learning something new everyday

I think you're TvT is really vague, as per what a previous post mentioned. Some things to think about when you choose a build (111 isn't actually that bad, you get to use your marine tank ball as an early strategic punisher) are starport openings and barracks timings. Other than that, you can pretty much do anything you want. I have a few.

TvT: 111 cloak banshee, cancel cloak if I see engineering bay or starport with the banshee.
TvT: Protoss-style 2rax into delayed combat shield, fast +1 (2 reactor rax, 1 engineering bay, just build fact when stim is at 120)
TvT: 1 rax fe into 4 rax marine combat shield timing, take 3rd during push
TvT: Defensive 111 ( I like to call it), take guys off gas when factory is started, throw down cc, get gas again, starport for vikings, then while you were spaming hellions, make 2 more facts with extra gas. Either go 2 reactor fact, 1 tech lab and armory upgrades, or 2 tank fact, 1 reactor.

You don't have to believe me, but the fact that you're in plat should give you a hint that you might not have enough insight in what's needed at that level.

Yeah, I think it's 2 seasons. I didn't play Season 4, but only have 1 placement match in Season 5... Also a fellow P --> R, just Gold-level :-P

I feel I win a decent percentage of my random games just because people don't know my race and they don't do their pet builds, and because I can get away with things like 16 hatch vs. protoss. I feel it's a good trade for the fact that I need to know 3 times as many matchups.

Anyway, switching to random wasn't hard for me at all. I went from high masters to mid masters, not much change really. As long as you know how to macro and you know a basic opening for each matchup, it's pretty simple.

Most of your openings are just right... But I would say lean more toward 1rax fe in TvP instead of 2rax. You can still apply a little pressure if you decide to go fast conc shells, it allows you to pick off a few units here and there. In TvT, I say learn the popular bio builds that have been going around, I been learning from a high master who goes 1rax FE in TvT and it's really pretty good if you learn how to stop 1-1-1. Also I still don't like going muta in ZvP, I know it's really popular right now but I crush every zerg who tries it against me, I'm actually loving the PvZ matchup because every single zerg goes mutas and it's a free win to a fast 2base push. Good luck!
