Hello everyone, this is my first blog!
So, recently I've been trying really hard to reach masters as terran (played zerg before) and it turns out it's not as easy as some people make it out to be. Over the past two weeks I've pretty much been playing non-stop because of my desire to be in the highest league. Yes, what drives me is not the fact that I'm improving, but rather that i am able say that I'm in the highest league (if you don't count GM). This may sound ridiculous to some people but for me it's very important since i'm spending so much time playing this game. It would be nice to be able to say that I've been in masters for a season! If i played this much and didn't get masters i'd be extremely disappointed in myself, and that's also something that drives me. I cannot let myself down. Yes, the ladder is serious business!
Speaking of the ladder, it's definitely a frustrating experience. Some days you go on an 11-game win streak and the next day you lose 11 games in a row and you're back on square one (maybe not really, but at least that's the feeling you get). This is extremely disheartening, since you worked so hard but gained almost nothing from it. Yes, the ladder can sometimes be a fruitless experience and that is what makes it fun, the competition and all the ups and downs that comes with it. I don't actually like games that much. I consider almost all games that are not of the competitive nature to be boring. I see no point in playing those games. Of course SC2 is a fun game by itself, but it is really the community and the competitiveness surrounding the game that drives me to play. Without goals and the feeling of superiority over others (sounds brutal, right?) it would be very boring, and that's why i strongly dislike playing games driven by story. I'd rather watch a movie if that's the case. The requirement of a set in stone goal is also why I'm planning a switch to protoss when i get masters with terran. I plan on getting masters with all races, and when I finally reach that goal I'll probably stop playing until HoTS comes out.
The other thing i'd like to talk about is terran as a race. There's no doubt in my mind that it's the hardest race to play, but also the most rewarding. TvP is an especially hard matchup at the moment with many TLers airing their frustration on the forums (try searching for PvT and TvP on TL. Many threads from terran, few from protoss!). I don't necessarily think the balance is favoring protoss in any way, i just think protoss is a much easier race to play. I sometimes play a few protoss games when i get tired of terran and It doesn't come as a surprise if i win vs a Terran player. I feel bad for them though, haha.
Of course, this is the nature of the protoss race, because its units have so much HP and are very strong they become easier to manage. Terran on the other hand, requires much more multitasking, micro and clever play to win because you really need to get the most out of those puny little units. But this is also why i like playing terran. I know that I'm playing the hardest race (for me personally) and that when i achieve my goal I've truly done so without feeling that I've "cheated" in any way. You could say that I'm a terran elitist!
I found this thread regarding the terran issues on TL very interesting: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=294598
Well, that's all i have to say! Back to laddering i guess. Hope someone enjoyed my rambling!

When you finally make Masters, realize that there are layers upon layers of skill level above you

Terran elitist indeed, come back when you've played PvZ and learnt how to deal with mutas, roach rushes and anyone smart enough to use speedling drops
In all seriousness good luck with your goal.

Nice OP. I've played all three races in my league for the past several seasons skip season 4. I find that I'm pretty relaxed playing as Zerg and Terran is the hardest to play. Once early game has passed, Terran becomes really hard to play because there are so many different things to manage and which I can do for Zerg using control groups and can wrap units right away for Protoss using WGs(need to remember for Terran). GL with your quest for masters

Yup I'm pretty much exactly where you are ~ Good luck, I'll see ya in masters .

I think I'll do a similar quest. I'll switch to Zerg and get to Masters, then bitch about Terran being so difficult. That is, if I'm right, of course.

because speedling drops cant be dealt with by some cannons around nexus and then spamming in zealots. And look, those cannons also stop muta harass with spammed in warp stalker! amazing.

Yeah, and it's killing me.

I like playing all the races because I feel that they have their own cool way about themselves like Protoss and their shields, fast gateway units. Terran and their drops, marine marauder. Zerg with their creep which I think is one of the most cool things about zerg because its free.

Speedling drops target production, and we cant magically warp enough zeals to kill 24-32 lings and still have cycles left for any stalkers.

wow ambitious plan to reach masters with all 3 races. that's going to be hard, but I'd suggest sticking to one race. jack of all trades, master of none - you know what i'm talking about?
|
Instead of trying to get masters with all 3 races, why not stick to one race and try to get gm with 1? and why quit after you reach your goal?
