Barrin Plexa Be very afraid of: Mani Naz Got it! No seriously I've had similar thoughts as you after what if you were on staff? questions. I would have to curtail the blunt posts I make. Obviously not everyone takes that stance or at least has their own definition of toned down but it's something that's always nagged me. If I were you, could I post the same way I did before? The answer is probably not. On the other side of the quote in your post there is the idea that people are less likely to argue with a hammer. Yes and no. I can't deny some people would meekly excuse themselves if they found themselves on the opposite side of your argument but for the most part I'd like to believe that the only measure of respect given is the quality in the argument. A person is a lot less likely to make a redundant, half assed and venomous post towards someone on staff than they are another user. Or maybe I'm completely wrong on that one- I'm sure more than one banling would disagree but I still feel like it's easier in general to argue without grounds against a regular user over a banling. Oh yeah this was my conclusion. Slipped my mind cos I'm staring at skyrim and the NASL timer. TL Staff weren't drawn out of a hat. In a long discussion thread I'll skip over posts arguing with each other with some frequency because I naturally assume it's grounded closer to personal attacks than meritorious debate. That's my own bias. I read what staff right because they weren't accidentally selected as part of staff. If they were idiots I would know about it already or they wouldn't be on staff. So all and all, it's less based on fear for me and more based on an assumption that if you didn't know what the hell you were talking about then you probably wouldn't be adamant about your viewpoint.

![]() This is like many things in life, such as promotions above your once peers as well. If you watch the new season of Dexter (I'll try not to spoil specifically) a character gets promoted to Lieutenant of the cops and finds out it is harder to have just everyday lunch break talks with those who were once of equal rank. Authority/power does that, I guess.

If there is one thing I like about TL its that anything you post(well almost anything) that is backed up by a solid, reasonable argument you will never have a problem with voicing your opinion.Mods are humans as well and make mistakes and we all have our own perceptions about various things. The good posters that you are directing this blog to are already aware of this. Cya around ^^

i hate yes-men. i hate people who will quote you, agree with you, and generally be all brown nosy just because of status or affiliation. its my disgust of this phenomena that allows me to be frank and direct, and why i enjoy debating with barrin, because hes a smart guy who can throw stuff back at you without relying on the majority, and also because hes man enough to actually stop, read, and understand the other point of view. quality poster right here, folks

I had a little kitty named Aeres not long ago (well, spelled Ares, as in the god of war not the sign). Tabby (mostly orange). Poor cat had a short but good life (he loved outside, and outside he was). But then when he went to get neutered, he was dead when we went to pick him up. Nobody really knows for sure but we think he OD'd on whatever vet used to knock him out... vet probably looked at him and saw a very strong cat (he was) and might have given him a little extra D: Luv'd that cat so much but I personally made sure he had a particularly good life while he was here (had no idea he wouldn't be here long ofc) so I don't feel so bad about it. RIP Ares <3 (every time I see Aeres or Ares I think of that cat lol) Meow.

Fuck. Can't help it D: 95% of the time I'm either completely serious or not serious in the slightest. I try really hard to change this but I can't help but feel (read: know) that I was (not purposely) brought up like this. It's kinda ingrained in me, trust me I don't like it. A big part of me being so serious (it's also me being "intellectual") comes from the fact that most things that irritate me are derived mostly from stupidity. I have this thing where I utterly refuse to contribute to irritating stupidity (playful trolling is different), which kinda leads me to being too serious. But I think too many people in this world aren't serious enough :D I try my best not to show it and this is the first time I'm openly admitting it, but much like many other people get "ladder anxiety" I get "posting anxiety". Seriously, lol. I have been considering making a thread/blog questioning if other people feel the same. Well I mean, I really only get it when I make big thread OP's. That dude who said 'tldr' on the first page probably would have a heart attack clicking on any of these links of my OP's: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=137143 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=166707 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=170129 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=177832 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=178253 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=215186 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=271257 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=271256 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=273780 (yes, I have more, these are my best). I know of this posting anxiety you speak of. Often times I'll reword something several times, only to retract my desire of posting at all. It's hard to find a balance between the relevance of the written/spoken word vs the desire to be heard.

1. Someone or a good amount of people are going to have a stupid counter-argument, miss the point, get half the point, get a different point out of context, make up their own point to argue with out of frustration with one small part of my point. 2. The original point isn't worth fighting that much for. 3. The audience won't even appreciate the insight my point brings. 4. If I am going to bother to make a point, I'd want to do a nice job and be able to put the effort needed to make it understood and/or discussable. 6. When I think about it and get past the above problems, sometimes I realize my point is just a fancy over-worded way of stating that I have different principles at the heart of the original point, but since principle is rarely ever seen as the heart of the argument, any argument that attempts to argue otherwise to the original point just seems like a giant waste of time. -Basically it's just a lot of arguing that breaks down into the realization that we have different values or principles. So... I usually keep my advice/ideas simple or solid, unless I feel like I am ready for a debate should the need arise 7. And then the above prompts me to almost rant or discuss bigger or other topics relative but unrelated, discouraging me more so due to the amount of writing involved or the fact that maybe I would be better spent putting that effort into a more relevant post on an different related topic. Maybe this post is a good example. If you think people are worried about contributing to a discussion, I would probably just leave a lot of inquisitive open endings/?'s on your replies. That just seems more inviting to me. Also, if your a really cynical poster, that attitude will probably scare people away as well. Condescending or looking-for-a-fight type of posts probably won't work out too well for you as well, but that's just common sense I guess. Being neutral and objective is usually the safest way to garner honest and thought out omissions out of a discussion in my opinion. Explaining yourself, and showing that you understood what has been explained to you is pretty helpful too, again, more common sense (at least to me). Hope some of that helps.
