IMNestea knocks out EGIdrA, advances to GI finals
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- IMNestea beat EGIdrA in the MLG Global Invitational semifinals 2 to 1.
In game one, Idra slammed through Nestea's army with superior upgrades and overpowering macro. Beginning with a gas first speed zergling expand on MLG Daybreak, Nestea's hatchery first opening held off the early aggression despite losing 10 drones to an early baneling attack. Nestea's mid-game mutalisk play struck Idra's third just as EGIdrA's hydralisks spawned to stop the attack which killed a number of drones and a queen.
EGIdrA spread his overlords across the map to create a highway of creep for his reinforcements as he attacked IMNestea's third base in the mid-game. IMNestea held off much of the attack, but the speed of EGIdrA's overwhelming number of reinforcements gave EGIdrA a win in game one.
On Antiga Shipyard, both players opened with hatchery first in game two. EGIdra opted for the the baneling nest again for early aggression killing a few drones, but IMNestea's roaches spawned to halt any further aggression. EGIdrA responded with a third hatchery and a roach warren of his own.
During the mid-game, EGIdrA attempted to take the high-yield expansion, but had to cancel it due to IMNestea's roach, hydralisk army. EGIdrA held off the mid-game attack, re-expanded to the high yield while counter attacking IMNestea's gold base, but EGIdrA's over commitment to the attack with infestors with no energy gave IMNestea the food lead and a win in game two.
In the tie breaking match on Metalopolis, EGIdrA's baneling play disintegrated over 30 of IMNestea's drones. EGIdrA won the early mid-game engagement with overwhelming force while expanding to five bases one of which being the high yield. Despite EGIdrA's consistent counter-attacks and higher income, IMNestea's patience and sound army engagement choices led IMNestea to take game three of the series, and advance to the Global Invitational finals.

Idra outplayed Nestea in every way... Except teching... Idra needed those infestors in game 3, man :/

I feel like idra forgot to make an infestor den. It's not a huge investment and he could easily have afforded it earlier.

Idra showed a level of play that made me really excited to see the rest of MLG. If he had engaged in some better positions, I think he could have taken game 3 and moved on, something even Idra seemed to know given his expression after the game.

It's a massive investment early when you're going roach/hydra, he should of got it when he crushed secured an army and base lead, sure, but saying it's not a huge investment earlier is just dumb, it cuts into your Hydra/Roach production immensely and and can stop you from holding off an attack and dieing. Especially with Roach/Hydra vs Roach/Hydra, whoever has the better numbers will win. I know it sounds obvious, but you just can't let your opponent out-army you with Roach/Hydra because you decided that you wanted to tech. It takes a lot of game sense to pull it off.
IdrA could of ended the game earlier, but he didn't secure enough of a lead to call himself ahead. That's what killed him, not getting infestors.

That series was so good. I was like 'ok now idra surely has this game' like 5 times each game and then it turned around again. Really fun ZvZ

I usually don't like ZvZ at all, but these matches were really enjoyable. Idra played absolutely amazing every game, maybe even "outplayed" Nestea somewhat in all of them, but damn, Professor Tea has some amazing timings and game sense and that won him the last game at least.
Really great series, and i guess it's safe to say that Idra has one of the best ZvZ's in the world, at least today.

Ya, it's a massive investment early. He was getting up 5 bases. That was late game. It wasn't a massive investment to make it a 2-3 minutes earlier.

Visit mlgpro.com. I'm not sure if the vods are up yet, however. The matches happened just a few hours ago.
