I. Introduction
SC2 BigFoot Launcher is a game client assistant developed by popular Chinese gaming site 178.com. Also available for other games like WoW, 劍俠情緣3 and qq西遊, the BigFoot software series primarily serves as a portal to interface with 178.com's extensive replay and custom map databases. It also has many secondary functions, such as offline replay viewing and easy region switching. It is these secondary uses that have caught the interest of the International community.
II. Functions
According to the official site, SC2 BigFoot Launcher has the following functions:
- Offline vs AI
- Offline replay viewing
- Offline custom-map play
- Single player battle-tactic tutorial (T/N: ? I guess the challenges?)
- Analyze replay data
- View replay details (such as APM)
- Automatically archival of replays
- Battle.net region selection

After you find a replay by clicking “Search”, simply click on “Play this replay” to start watching it. The client will automatically download the corresponding Map if it is not detected.
V. FAQ
The following is a translation of the official FAQ Q: After I installed SC2 BigFoot, do I still need to install the official StarCraft 2 client?
A: Yes! SC2 BigFoot is a client assistant. It still needs the official client to initiate the game. Q: Does SC2 BigFoot update automatically?
A: Yes! SC2 BigFoot will automatically update to the latest version at each initiation. Q: Does SC2 BigFoot support vs AI games?
A: Yes! Q: After installing SC2 BigFoot, can I use it to browse the replay archive?
A: When starting SC2 BigFoot for the first time, you'll be requested to fill in your [178.com] login information. Afterwards you will have direct access to the replay database. [T/N Note: Replay database refers to replays hosted by 178.com at http://dl.178.com/sc2/]Q: When playing vs AI, can I select the AI difficulty using SC2 BigFoot?
A: Yes! Select vs AI in the main screen, then choose your prefered AI setting in pop-up dialog. Q: Can I add my own custom maps to SC2 BigFoot?
A: Yes! However, you need to have "add AI" enabled in the map settings. Q: If I do not have the map file corresponding to a replay, will SC2 BigFoot automatically download the proper map to watch the replay?A: Select SC2 BigFoot's replay function. After you open the replay file, if the local map file is not found, SC2 BigFoot will automatically download the corresponding map. Source Text
Q: Does this mean I can play on other Servers with a single CD-key? A: No. You'll still need an existing account for the specific region to play on that server (KR, for example). This simply makes it easier to switch between regions. You also get to play any server with the sound-set you're familiar with.
Q: What's the cheats section? A: It simply lists the single player cheats. The cheats are not available in multiplayer (as usual).
Q: Is this a trainer/hack? A: As far as I see, the software does not confer any multiplayer advantages. Once launched, the game client is functions as original.
Q: Is this legal (in accordance with EULA)? A: I have not seen any official information from Blizzard regarding the SC2 BigFoot Launcher. 178.com is one of the largest gaming site in the world, and usage of this client assistant is quite common, and it does not confer any in-game advantages. However, in the feedback forums, there's one unanswered instance where someone posted that his "account was banned as result of using BigFoot." It's unknown whether this was in fact true. Most likely, this like other region-switchers, are in legal grey area for Blizzard.
Q: Will I able to use X sound bank on Y server? A: This is one undocumented feature (or bug) of the region switcher. Because you use a single installation to play on all servers, the audio used ingame will be whatever you installed with. Feel free to install whichever client audio you enjoy more. Every combination works (so far)!
Q: I switched to TW server, now all my menu labels are gone! A: This is a known bug. Luckily, the menu are all functional despite unlabeled. As long as you remember where everything is, you can go through the game fine. If you use the TW client instead, the no-menu bug goes away (although you'll be stuck with the TW sound file).
Feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. No, i do not work for 178.com.

Thank you, need to look into using this program now xD

This is awesome, isn't this what Tyler was using?

Now if they added some kind of custom ladder (iCCup-like) maybe SC2 wouldn't be so horrible after all.

Yay I can free up like 40 gigs on my HDD now!
Thank you!

Really nice of you to do this, now I can link anyone needing this in the future to this thread instead of having to explain everything over again (and badly at that, since I dont speak chinese)

is this what liquid'tyler uses to switch easily from NA to KR then EU?
edit:

as amazing as this would be im 99% sure that they would be breaking ToS at that point
|
I got to say this thing telling me the ping of the servers is great, will tell me good or bad times to ladder on China once I get some more time cards!
Also found out my connection to SEA is just as good as NA, interesting.
|
does this make the latency easier cross servers?
|
No, it doesn't change anything related to your connection to the servers. Your latency will be the same as if you use the regular client.
Although it does have a latency display, which is nice for finding the best time slot.

wait... so creating a separated ladder is illegal, even if not modifying ANY SC2 files?
Imagine if magically someone was able to retrieve information about a game just played by a registered user in this system (like who won, vs who, which race, which map, etc) without any user interaction besides logging into the system. Also magically, the programmer was able to retrieve such informations without modifying/breaking into any of the SC2 files. At this point a completely independent ladder could be created with a decent map pool and less ridiculous ranking system. Where is the ToS violation in this?
I ask that because thats my only hope that SC2 will someday have a ladder where we are not tied to Blizzard maps. Jesus... if at least there was a way to implement a list of rooms created by users to join ranked or unranked games, like in BW, I would be satisfied.
|
I wouldn't put it past blizzard to ban everyone who uses this
be careful guys

Could anyone just re-upload this somewhere else? I can't seem to download it properly, it just keeps timing out after 20min cause i only get like 4kb sec.

Yes. One function of this is easier region switching than existing methods. Funny that this software wasn't well known before, I knew it came out during Beta!
|
When I open the TW server with bigfoot all the buttons are blank, so I have to navigate through the menu's from memory. Anybody else get this? Oh and this didn't happen with the old relocalizer I used.
|
Weird, that also occurred for me, and oddly enough I have the TW language set installed. Don't seem to occur for any other Servers.
Let me know if you notice any other errors. I plan to put together a summary post to the developers about the recent international interest, and bugs like this can be helpful.
(although it seems like development has been dead for quite a few months)
|
Opening starcraft through bigfoot also causes my mouse curser to not be contained in the screen, even with the option on.
**edit** Seemed to have fixed this problem by exiting out of bigfoot after I have opened the client.

A majority of the text doesn't display on my screen. Is this because I don't have a font installed or something? Is there a way to make it in english?

That's what it looks like ^.

Is that the TW Server? This occurs with mine as well, although I have Traditional Chinese installed. I haven't find a solution to this error yet.

|
I have this installed but i can seem to get past the log in screen. Do i need to buy another copy of the game to play on another server? Or should i be able to log in with my current id regardless of the server region? forgive my lack of knowledge, I've just never tried this until now.
edit: nevermind. i reread and answered my own question

I have the same problem
|
The font-set will automatically change to the region you're using, but the TW one appears to be bugged (hence the blanks). I haven't found a solution to it yet.
|
Does anyone else have the problem where if you have dual monitors the mouse just goes over to the other monitor instead of scrolling the starcraft scene over?
edit: just looked up.

any fix to the text not showing up in the TW server yet?? just downloaded this tool and its awesome minus this bug : (

Ok, two questions: - When there is a patch, do you have to switch back to the original client version first (like other relocalizers)? - Let's say my original is EU and I switch to NA, I play for a bit and then close SC2. The next time I start SC2 again, will it still be on NA or will it be on EU? Thanks a bunch btw!
EDIT: I PM'd the thread starter and he told me that it might not matter which server you're on when you patch, but that it could give trouble when you patch a client and then go on another server where the patch hasn't hit. So he told me to be careful in the downtime. Second, and I found this out myself by now too, if you start the client normally, it will be on your original clients server, you can only go on the other one by using BF to actually start SC2.
I have a peculiar problem now. I rebound backspace to 'return page' button on my mouse with a third application, since I use it to inject hatcheries and to jump between bases and such. To clarify: this is not done in SC, that button works like that in every program on my computer. However, when I start SC2 (be it EU or NA) with Bigfoot this doesn't work anymore. So it seems that the hotkey doesn't apply to it, which is weird, 'cause it should be universal. Anybody got an idea how to fix this?
EDIT 2: I managed to fix my program by starting Setpoint with administrator rights (using the task scheduler).

On January 28 2012 02:50 desRow wrote: fuck i read after trying that it doesnt work with TW fuck me
Hey desrow, the only problem others have reported about the program on TW, is that it doesn't display menu text properly. Otherwise it has been fully functional. Is there a new issue you found?
|
Anyone knows if there'll be an update that shows the text on the TW client?
|
The launcher hasn't been updated for almost a year now. I wouldn't be expecting anything soon.
|
I've used this forever on WoW so it's cool to see it here
|
So if I understand right, I have a CN Account and a EU Account. I can play on EU but with Chinese Characters and Voice?
That would be awsome if this is true :/
|
You can play both servers with one client yes. If you have the Chinese client it'll use those sounds/voices on EU.
|
What about latin american region?
|
Latin America got merged with NA yes?

I have a Korean client and a Chinese client. I want to play Chinese server with complete Korean language. Is that possible with this tool? Can you use this program to play on Chinese Bnet in Korean?(sounds, texts etc in korean)

Yes, you can play on any other region in the language of your original client. In your case, you can uninstall the Chinese client and connect to the Chinese server through your Korean client with the tool.

Any changes on how to get rid of the blank boxes when using another client on TW server ? I don't get any signs or letters with bigfoot ... :/

I have an issue when I go to log in. I get an error(It has a big red X, so I know its an error) but I dont understand the language therefore I have no idea what it is saying. Any body got any ideas?
EDIT: Nm, I thought it was bnet id. Created 178.com account and all good. I will leave this post here in case anyone else is as silly as me (Doubt it) :D

ohh so I locate my Korean client with Bigfoot and I run my Korean SC2 client to log on to CN BNet with my CN account?
and replays. are they in Chinese if I run them with bigfoot?
a great tool. literally everything except campaigns

Replays from CN server should be in Korean if you run the Korean client yes just make sure that the program knows which copy of sc2 to use since you have two installed.

Uhh I went into the settings and located my Korean SC2 client(double-checked it) and I set my battle.net to CN mainland server. Then I clicked on the battle.net button. but most parts of the interface was still in Chinese, and some parts were simply written in question marks, and I am quite sure that they are actually Korean. Why is this happening? Isn't this supposed to be completely in Korean without any 'crashed' letters? I am using a Korean client, so I think it should be able to display Korean letters without problem...
EDIT: I just found out that single-player games using BigFoot is in complete Korean, including written and voices. but when I click on the battle.net button, it is half-chinese and half-korean(question marks). in BNet multiplayer games, all of the in-game texts are in question marks.
|
Any way to make my korean client in English? I switched the region to KR, launched the game and it was still in Korean, even though I specified my EU client during the installation of the program. While it's 'cool' to have mysterious signs all over my SC2, I'd still prefer to actually understand the writting/voices.. <.<
|
Just tested a workaround: If you install the TW client, the "no menu bug" goes away for the TW server.

You'll get the menu labels of whichever server you use (if you switch to KR, you'll get the Korean menu). However, you keep the game audio of the client you installed. If you're getting KR audio, Big Foot is pointing to the wrong client file. Adjust your settings:

wow this actually works, this is the best client out there hands down

The SEA connect is broken. It connect me to the NA server.
Still a great feature, I love playing on the NA and TW server with my KR version of Starcraft 2.

Anybody have a mirror for the install? Due to dodgy routing or poor hosting the download won't complete for an hour

same problem here any cluess ? I have my LA client installed and any gateway shows this error.
dont have an idea what happens and it only launchs my default language.

The error translates to:
Cannot start online play (cannot switch client/cannot switch language).
Not sure what may cause this. I will try test a few things when I get back home next week.
|
it's too bad that this Bigfoot.SC2 still needs you to be an administrator to run, where the GSC-Relocalizer (CMD) works with standard users. Is there a fix for this so we don't have to be admins just to use Bigfoot to change the region where we want to play?
I use a Korean client (koKR) and I use Bigfoot.SC2 to change regions (to SEA, NA, KR/TW, and EU). So far I have not encountered any problems, except for when I go to TW specifically, I get blank boxes text. SEA NA EU have good English text and KR has the Korean text.

c_kAelle reminded me of something, did you try running Big Foot as an administrator (right click- run as administrator).

OK I've done a lot of testing and trying to understand what this program does, and I have to say that is not compatible with my LA Client, so I´ve tried some methods to make it work, using another relocalizer to create the enUS files, and now bigfoot program recognize that i have an enUS client and make the switching to TW.
What this program does is look into your SC2 installation folder for ur local client files enUS, enEU,etc. From this list written in the code: enGB, enSG, enUS, koKR zhCN, zhTW, ONLY!, So if your client is not listed here you are gonna see the same error again and again, So I'm cheating the program using another relocalizer named Relocalizer_X, I´m using my source as esMX to enUS, i let all the process run, and returned it to esMX ( enUS to esMX or whatever ur client is), now this way i have enUS files in my SC2 isntallation folder and i can play on my TW and MX account(because now its my default again). so its the same case with another clients that are not listed here, like esES.
NA and LA servers are united now, but nowdays its required a different license to play both clients and is not the same as enUS, i hope you find useful this solution, its true that you invest more HD space but not so much as if you have both clients installed.
I hope i have explained my self, im not so good with english but if u have questions ill be happy to answer.
Cya, I'm trying to solve the issue about blank buttons and menus in TW switching, so ill tell you if i find a solution. i hope its a MPQ edit issue.

spawn, any reason you still use big foot instead of developing your own better relocalizer :p

is there any workaround for the "no text menu" while choosing TW server ?
|
I am using BigFoot to play with AI and I am loving it, However I can't use it to play on Bnet because most of the in-game text are displayed as question marks, which is very irritating. I am trying to play on China mainland server(which I have an account on) in Korean language, so I got a Korean client and launched it with BigFoot after setting the Bnet realm to China mainland. But all I see is lots of question marks all over the place and some texts still stay in Chinese.
Why is this? Isn't Korean language supposed to be displayed correctly because I am using Korean client to launch it? Why is Chinese being displayed with no problem while Korean is not?
|
|
amazing program, thank you

A lot of people that posted in that thread are having many issues with that relocalizer
