That is quite a nice guide.
I've never played, or even watched DotA, but I have played LoL.
A beta key would be nice to try it out. Looking for something new to play.

Would love to be considered for the key :o Great to see that the nubs get a chance around here! And I love the content that's geared towards newbies - there does not seem to be quite enough of that out there. A personal hope of mine is to be able to get into the beta, and possibly use that to produce write-ups on the general roles of each hero that's currently up and the ins and outs of each that I can gather. Kind of like mini-guides I guess.

As a dota veteran I can say that tip number 5 is good at first but as you progresses you will learn that you can be much more aggressive with your hero.

Lesson one: don't die
Lesson two: be aggressive
Lesson three: don't be overaggressive

At the top level you have learned the fine balance between passivity and aggression.

I have never played DotA before, but I really want to, lol! I watch linklink's stream every now and then and it looks really fun.

Thanks for a newb friendly guide too! I have been trying to follow some different conversations and threads in the DotA subforum but I get so lost cause I never played it before at all. I think you are probably right-- these are things that an experienced player doesn't even think about!

Don't die is so much easier said than done, once someone sniffs out a bad player and they're ahead, they're going to farm you through two towers. If you're new, tell your teammates and ask for ganks on your lane or you won't survive even if you play carefully.

I'm a pretty experienced player 5 or 6 years now, but i wanted to say this is a very nice intro guide. Going along with the post above teams like Na'Vi are known for their very aggressive play style. One of the best ways to help your DotA performances is to be able to accurately assess battles to determine not just if they are winnable, but also if there is a way you can save a teammate w/o dying.

id like a dota key @_@ iv played league of legends only and maybe a few games of dota.. man was it bad cant even last hit not to mention denying. but iv watched so much dota recently. I think the hardest part is getting used to the graphics.. so much different than hon/LoL or dota 1

I would love a beta key. Never played dota before, but I can tell that this game will immediately be one of my favorites. I have played about 200 games of LoL, and watched enough dota2 to know that I would enjoy dota immensely because it seems to take a lot more skill. So hopefully that counts as being new

Great tips, I've learned most of them from LoL but those are probably the most important of any dota-like game.

Good read, interesting reading from a newbies experience.

- Don't consider me for the key, I've been playing dota on and off for the past year or so

. And yes Furion is a terrible first hero to play :D.

Also I'm loving all these new dota blogs, I'm considering writing a guide for something... But I don't think I'm good enough to do so and don't want to look like an idiot :D

Well I guess I'm almost exactly like you: I didn't watch the international, but I watched ESWC and have been watching linklink stream quite a lot. I've downloaded DOTA and am trying to get better. I would really appreciate a beta key <3.

I'd love the key. I played a little bit of DotA with my wife, as she was an avid dota gamer, but I never was able to get good at it because the shop system is very complicated. Once I got the mechanics, I had no idea how to build the items I needed, and which shop to get them from.

I got good at LoL after that and then started playing HoN, which I am very competant at.

I'd love me some DotA 2!

Also it was my birthday yesterday, and it'd be the best gift ever.
