Hey, I've been trying to get into Dota for a long time now, and I've always been deterred by the skill level required for Dota and the "old" look that it presents :/ I tried LoL but found it a bit lacking when compared to Dota, and simply never got into HoN. Dota2 seems to be MUCH more appealing and inviting to new players. Dota2 also integrates many new MatchMaking algorithms to pair newer players (such as myself) to other newer players so as to present a combined learning experience for newcomers. I also have a passion for beta-testing, and have tested many games before from various publishers; I also belong to some 3rd party testing groups where many publishers go to test their games. I would very much like to try and test Dota2, first and foremost for the sake of testing, and secondly to advance my experience with the Dota-genre of games.

Thank you!

Well this blog makes a lot more sense to me than most of the others did, in the eye opening kind of way. I never really had a good grasp of these games, and actually the thing that put me off the most was that it's both a team based game, but also looked like most people are just doing their own thing for the most part of the game.

I'd like to try it eventually, but since Skyrim is bound to take up most of my time in the near future, I guess it isn't fair to ask for the key now. I'll keep an eye out for your blogs if you ever make any in the future though.

I've been after a key really to see what everyone is so interested in. I spend a lot of time watching sc2 coverage but I also like to broaden my esports horizons by checking out other games. In doing this I've watched quake live, counterstrike and even street fighter and bloodline champions whilst on a trip at dreamhack.

When I saw the prize money valve announced for the international and the teams who would be attending I was really interested. I ended up watching just about all of the games whilst trying to pick up what I could about the teams themselves and the game. Despite some of the initial lag problems which weren't too fun from a viewer perspective.. I really enjoyed the way the game flowed and the build up and tension you could get when a team would suddenly go on a ganking mission. As a result i've been incredibly excited about trying it out in the beta and seeing if it's the kind of game I'd enjoy playing as well as watching. I really like the direction valve are taking with the spectating options too and hopefully that will have a big impact on a lot of other games in the coming years to make everything better to watch.

Really enjoying all the articles on dota that keep popping up here in the blogs. It helps take the edge off not having any luck getting into the beta yet

Thanks for the tips! I'm in a similar position to you (hadn't really encountered the genre at all until the invitational) but it is something that I am really looking forward to getting in to.

I especially like the "don't die" point, I must admit that in other games I usually have a knack for grossly underestimating my chances of death and charging headlong in to the fray - I believe that such a heroic act is called 'feeding' in this game

I keep having that dream of Bee playing in the same team with rip, heyoka, treehuggy and keit.
It ends with decapitations and sodomy.
My dick has shrunk to the point where it looks like I have 3 balls.

Never played DOTA before but have tried a bit of starcraft 2 DOTA (SOTIS) and it was pretty fun. Would really love to play a competitive team game again.

I've played HoN, not the actual DotA though. Don't know if that's good enough. ^^)
Been watching streams of DotA2 for a while now, it looks totally awesome, I'm always trying to recognise the heroes from HoN. Anyways, thanks, I liked the guide!

Hi

I'll be honest here and say that I'm not new (unless you could dota 2 cause I haven't played that ^^). I read your bit about a friend and I do have one that has played dota a bit, but considers himself very noob even though he isn't too bad & probably just needs to read a few guides from guys like you. Because of this I'd still consider him 'new' as he doesn't actively play the game, if this isn't allowed or you don't trust me to hand the key to him I understand but I thought it was worth a shot as he wouldn't sign up himself.

Thanks for the hard work you do, hope to see you in dota 2! (it rhymes, hehe)

Excellent read, I honestly never realized that you actually don't want to be pushing their towers as soon as possible. I'm completely new to dota have admittedly played a little LoL, but I'd life to join the beta because of the insane skill cap and competitiveness of the game.

Such a good read, thanks for this! I am completely new to dota, and the only moba I have ever tried is HON, but none of my friends played it...

I'm not new to Dota or Mobas (except Dota 2 ), but i'll comment anyway.

About the "#2. Spending your money properly is really important", if you don't know what to buy, use the recommended section in the shop. It's better to at least buy something useful to the hero you are playing than just randomly buying something. Basic knowledge but worth mentioning i think.

About the starting items, especially for supports i suggest to check Bumblebees amazing blog. Usually some of the tips here are good for other than support heroes also.

Great read, Great to see TLers sharing the keys with the community. Congrats whoever gets the key!

Really nice and informative blog man, keep up the good work.
I'm not sure if me playing league of legends disqualifies me from your beta key give-away but I really want to try DOTA2.
If it helps I've never played the original DOTA and I'm pretty bad at LoL too :D
