While I don't agree with all your sentiments concerning eSports I still think people have treated you badly, you should be able to have differing opnions.

I think you are a great translator and nothing would please me more if you reconsidered the decision to call it quits. I am saddened that the haters and trolls won and not the people who wants an intelligent and peaceful discussion.

I thank you for all that you done. I am still a fan.

This is the equivalent of a hormonal sixteen year old girl asking everyone on Facebook whether or not she is pretty. Of course she is pretty and she knows it, but she wants the attention and reassurance.

I'm simply not going to give a grown man that type of reassurance. None of us need it nor deserve it.

No, it's not at all. I have no idea how you've come away with such a poor understanding of my posts. I can't even begin to help you understand.

Take your own advice, don't read the posts, you can already imagine what they will answer...

Sad that the community prefers to stab death horses nowadays than trying to support and help.

Seriously this is the internet, you've been here long enough to know how people are.

None of the reactions should have surprised you, nor should they have gotten under your skin so much.

Leaving like this is.. well, it's kind of pathetic to be honest.

Look as Incontrol, poeple hate over him constantly, I never payed much attention to it but now I gotta admit I have a bit of respect for him for simply shacking it off and powering on.

I dont really see your logic either, Reddit for one worships you, I dont think i have ever seen an unkind or unincouraging word said about you on it (Which is unique).

See you next week when you remake

You know, it's very telling that some of the reactions on this thread are just as bad as many on reddit (if not as extreme).

TL has definitely lost much of its etiquette and class over the last year. There's not a lot left that makes it unique any more. Saying that the "internet is evil, don't listen to it" or whatever is easy and you may think saying that makes you look mature or smart in a cynical way, but it really doesn't. Making even a small place on the internet NOT blend into that stereotype is extremely difficult, and not many people care enough to contribute to that anymore.

Milkis is one of those guys who made TL and symbolized the TL community for me, and also one of the rare people whose views on a lot of [s]e-sports[/e] Starcraft related things I can agree with. But I'm not going to ask him to reconsider his decision if he indeed made it, as I don't think TL really deserves guys like him anymore.

Just get a paid translator who will be a nobody with no opinions and will take any bashing in the world for a paycheck. That's the trend in ESPORTS nowadays anyway, isn't it? Professionalism! Yay.

It's all about the context of the community you place it in tho.

Milkis could have posted that exact same thread on the TL BW forum, and it wouldn't have gotten nearly the kind of reaction that it did over on reddit. Yet he chose to make his point on the SC2 reddit, which is not as strictly moderated as TL and attracts a crowd of which only a small percentage have an interest in BW in the first place (much like TL SC2).

It's kind of like coming over to my house and explaining in detail why every piece of furniture I have is terrible and how everything you own is superior. There's a reason people don't react friendly to behaviour like that. Nothing is forbidding you from doing it, but at least be reasonable in the expectations you have.

If he posted it in TL SC2 forum, the reaction wouldn't be any better. Hell, the reactions to this very blog post (which is game "neutral" and it's a completely different topic anyway) aren't much better. Even if he posted it in the TL BW forum, do you really think people who disagree with him wouldn't read it anyway and respond to it much in the same way? That's optimistic to say the least.

The bottom line is, Milkis is the kind of person who can post an informed and educated opinion on something, and has done enough for the community and been around long enough to warrant everyone who responds to first think long and hard before disagreeing, and even if they disagree to do it in a respectful manner.

98% of the people in that thread posted in an acceptable manner. He posted a very controversial and drastic piece of opinion, so he is going to get rather drastic comments. The remaining 2% stepped over the line but that's got nothing to do with Reddit or TL, that's just how the internet works.

I don't understand how people can be complaining about "the trolls". Milkis titled his post "elitist" from the start, and was highly derogatory and insulting if not downright offensive. It minimized the skill, intelligence, effort, and love of esports of the vast majority of esports players and fans worldwide. His main argument was that the fans also play the game, therefore those games are not esports. This is not a carefully crafted and laid out argument meant to convince or inform, it's inflammatory and hateful and clearly intended as such. Especially if you consider where he posted it. In the BW forums it would've been somewhat accepted if not ignored. But he went to a sc2 board and told everybody there that they are not actually esports fans.

He is the troll in this case.

Wow.

Honestly when you make post with "elitist" in the title, you know you're just asking for negativity. When you receive the criticism, you delete your post and twitter it makes look stupid. Not sticking by your words and go into "hiding" so to speak. I'm not trying to be rude or anything but this makes you come off as weak. And if you leave the whole scene because of this well then, its just survival of the fittest. Don't get me wrong, I appreciated what you did for MKP/reddit thing, but if you can't take the heat for this, then this scene doesn't need weak people in it. That being said, I hope you don't leave because of this incident, but if you do leave it will show what kind of person you are.

Um...what?

I'm so confused. What is this opinion you keep talking about that is supposedly elitist and why exactly do you think that's the reason forum dwellers make fun of you? And why do you care?

Amazing how quickly Reddit can turn on someone...
Milkis has done a lot of good things for esports, and I still respect him for that. Disappointingly thin-skinned though... I suppose that's to be expected of someone who (in the best sense of the word) was an amateur in a place full of professionals.

His post was neither informed nor educated, and instead contended that his interests trumped those of other people. Community members like djWheat and the countless others who have spent a decade+ of their lives promoting games of all kinds have every right to strongly criticize Milkis for ignorant elitism (which, as hinted at by the presence of elitist in the title of his post, clearly indicates that Milkis was well aware of how lacking in critical perspective his statements were). Milkis posted blatant fanboyism, and fanboyism is what he got in return.

Sure this was a bad way to handle things on Milkis's part, but I think it's sad how being as harsh, vicious and cruel as possible is considered the norm on the internet ("and if you can't handle it, gtfo"). Milkis is guilty of self pity, attention seeking, and two very ill thought out blog posts, but that seems the smaller crime compared to people who just take and never give of themselves, yet jump at the opportunity to spew vicious bile and tear someone down. Maybe Milkis isn't cut out for the spot light.

I understand perfectly.

You believe Milkis needs to change his attitude. You believe that us as a community must reassure him that he has done a adequate job translating. If he wants to become comfortable enough again to return to the scene, that is all on him, not the community.

Just because I strongly disagree with what your saying does not mean I haven't read or misunderstood your posts. What your saying is quite simply, and frankly in my opinion what your suggesting the community to do is not in our best interests.

Milkis attitude is his issue to fix, we should not be required to give him bull-shit happy and love felt comments to convince him to stay. If he is going to give up this easily then I don't even want him to stay. Weak people like this have no business being in the public eye, especially when it's representing something I love such as e-Sports.

In the end it makes us all look bad.

I am sorry to hear this, I hope you know and read these comments there is a lot of support out here. Also I never thought you were nervous or a 'bad' translator, lets be serious here, I don't know Korean, and I don't know a single Korean that would have criticized because translating can't be easy. Thank you for all your work and content.

Please take care of yourself, on behalf of the non-troll community.

Thank you.
