EPTAfter watching the SCI3 finals (whitera games were a F*cking rollercoaster), i hopped onto the ladder and began playing. My first games was against a protoss, my inital thought was like anyone else "OMG COLLSUS SO OP GONNA GET F*CKING ROLLED MIGHT ASWELL GG NAO". My better judgment and common sense steered me into a 15 hatch, 14 pool/gas opening, where i went drone heavy and got a early roach warren. I held off his small poke with a spine crawler ling combo, thinking i was a champ, i immediately a-clicked 15 zerglings to their deaths, watching them bash their heads into a gateway as 4 zealots sliced them to death, but hey, thats like barely 400 minerals, and with all those drones, i got that back right quick, investing in a shiny new lair. After going for a poke with some ling/roaches, finding him going for heavy warp gate, I exploited that the only way i could, another hatchery, and 12 more roaches. with 26 roaches and a nice little herd of 30 zerglings, i promptly gutted his natural mineral line, watching the wall-e like probes get smashed to death by smaller versions of alien and giant cockroaches. when he decided to strike, he found his small band of gateway units and immortals hard met by my obviously superior group of units. e left the game, leaving behind 1 immortal and a handful of probes.
Re watching the game, I saw that my droning was excellent to a T, i expanded whenever i had over 1000 minerals, either getting a macro hatch or a expansion, and my army was bigger them him, because i obviously built the right houses for things to come out of. My creep was severely lacking, I often lost my dedicated creep spreading queen, but its something that i can always improve upon, and isn’t as serious as larva injects and drone production.
My second game happened to be a terran, my most feared match, I know firsthand how lethal a 2rax/3rax timing attack can be against a budding zerg player, I did it a lot when i played terran and have been on the receiving end more times than I wish to count. But I had hope, I knew that if I went pool first, I wouldn’t have the economy I wanted, so I against went with 15 hatch, 14pool/gas, but opting to get a few more zerglings and the all important baneling nest before my roach warren. When he decided to roll out, i saw around 50 marines doing a light jog around the map, I had a nice little 2 base economy rolling, and with the saved up larva, I had ample time to get out 12 more roaches, adding to my 15 banelings and 6 roaches. When he finally hit, he killed off my helpless creep pooping queen (she didn’t do anything wrong! leave creep poop queen alone!). Alas, she didn’t die in vain, putting their track shoes on, my baneling/roach speed hit right as his marine non chalantly tried to make my roaches into the next Saint Valentine’s Day massacre. my banelings weren’t going to have any of it, and all became martyrs, rolling valiantly into his ball, exploding and killing all but six marines, which were promptly killed my roaches (I would’ve arranged a monument to be placed where the mengsk statues are but blizzard decided that metalopolis was too good for the ladder, we need more rocks in our diet anyway). My roaches waltzed into his base and promptly died, but no after scouting his natural going down and him adding a lot of tech labs to his 6 rax. I began to but my macro pants on, taking a third and promptly mainerding to it, also constructing a spire and getting +1 missle/+1 armor. the game went into a lull, and only as I decided enough was enough and moved out, taking the middle of the map by storm, I made a little creep street which I decided to call abbey road, LKF. Using my new 10 mutas, I swung around the side of his main to find a third base, having none of that shit, I killed of many workers, leaving only their trucker hats and mullets behind as I forced a lift off. Going for broke he charged his now MMM army into a roach baneling army. Once again, the banelings made the ultimate sacrifice, charging into his ball like a bat out of hell, a very fat and slow bat, but a bat none the less. Clearing out the army, he promptly left, and I learned a great lesson, banelings kick ass.
I only got 2 games in today, but I learned a lot in them, tomorrow is a school day for me unfortunately so I will definitely try to get in at least 3games before the day’s end, and will try as best as I can to write about them.
Sorry for the wall of text, I felt like this needed to be well documented and written according.
TL: DR: I learned to drone more, banelings are great versus terran, and gateway only stalker/zealot comps aren’t as good as people think versus a double sized army of roach/ling.
Feel free to comment and critique this, I’m a budding writer and would love to tweak the writing style to make it more enjoyable for the few readers I get :D.
