I've been considering getting a tattoo for a time now, one that captures a little bit of my character as opposed to a stock Gaelic/ Tribal/ Chinese scribblry; meaning nothing in particular.

One thing that I like about this approach however is its vagueness. You can chose to have the name of your favourite team sketched in a fancy text; the fact hidden from your average observer. I feel this type of approach to tattoos is best; a cool little symbol, in a mute colour, one that reveals very little at first, that means something different to you than others.

After browsing TeamLiquid for a similar thread, I found the following link and while some people thought it was nice to express oneself, the general consensus was that getting a bigass Hydralisk face on your arm was a rather shitty idea!

link:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=29667

In all honestly I cant disagree, I've seen alot of gaming tattoos, and the vast majority just get it so wrong..... well at least the note worthy ones. By note worthy I of course mean the tacky ones. Fully formed characters are too revealing, theres a little too much depth and opportunity for a growing, ageing body to make a cock up of that amazing princess peach on your forearm...

Gaming and more notably my nostolgic memories of gaming would probably be the entertainment avenue that meant the most to me, something that I've carried for the longest time. I'm 24 and considering my short on change parents originally shying from the newest platforms at the time (1987+), chosing to start us off on an old atari 2600, I have basically experienced all generations of gaming, and quite thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

Through this journey, Starcraft has been a fairly new interest, one that started with a Chinese room mate, a Toshiba drawing tablet PC with broken network port (had to hold it in, while using a stylus to play), and A moving a 200/200 ultra ling army in a 5v3 handy cap matchup in 2007. Since then its become quite a force.

Now considering my preference for a vague interesting looking tatoo, I could not help but notice how cool the protoss emblem is, (think as a black silhouette) it would fit in perfectly with your average stock tattoo..... almost too perfectly, like as if Blizzard designed it to be a tattoo from the beginning.

link:
http://i.imgur.com/D5uor.jpg

Its definitely an option for me, its pretty cool, and not at all over baring or obvious to your general Irish/ British public. All considering besides my original idea for a black pixelated Pacman on my arm I think it would be a safe bet.

Ive drawn what this pacman tattoo could look like in my deviant art page in the following link. Its a similar idea to one in the comic Penny Arcade, but I think it would look much nicer going down the arm rather than around like a tacky, spice girls arm band tattoo thing.

link:
http://championfeatures.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2rvsll

So putting aside the obvious question of whether you like tattoos or not, what do you think? Vague pixelated pacman or a sharp black protoss symbol? The pacman essentially represents all gaming ( a space invader would have a similar effect but may be too obvious to any pass by) whiile the protoss symbol just looks cool and hails my love of starcraft without again being obvious.

Thanks,
features.

one that reveals very little at first, that means something different to you than others.

Wear sunglasses. The same thin veil to attempt to be mysterious, ambiguous can be done in writing, drawing abstract art or simply wearing shades.

As Charlie Brown would do, draw arms going behind the back, having the hands hidden. This will invoke people wondering why you had your drawn-man this way and will try to make him more profound than the reality of it all: you can't draw hands very well.

Point being, since I'm being nonsensical. Wear shades, they are pretentiously the same thing: an attempt to be a deeper form of something that is just simple: the sun is in your eyes rather than an indication of timidness and/or disillusioned of the world and its conventional society.

Tattoos have gone out since they no longer represent a sign of strength or endurance.

tl;dr: yeah, your protoss emblem will seem cool and mysterious to the ladies until you tell them that you really liked a particular race in a particular video-game. I'm sure letting your friends guess what it is for durations of many months will be dazzling: like you discovered a hieroglyph of the arts. Then when you raise the curtains, it'll be a video-game.

At least wait until patch 1.4.

The pacman essentially represents all gaming

Except Pong does it better.

I would go with a simple Protoss tattoo. It kinda resembles your favorite childhood game. People get tats of basketball and sport teams why not one of the Protoss emblem.

I wouldn't do it but to each their own. Plenty of people get tattoos that do not mean anything. Incontrol said he has some that have no particular meaning in general. Lots of people do it simply for how it looks. I would just think for a month or two from the point you decided to get it to actually having the work done, that way the decision really has time to sink in.

I would go with Protoss emblem over Pacman though.

Sir, I object to that! I can draw anything perfectly....... just not from the top of my head, my knowledge of anatomy holds me back at times. @__@ lol

If you want one, get one.

If you are going to let people's opinions decide for you whether or not you are going to get one, you probably shouldnt get one. As its going on YOU for the rest of your life.

If your doing it for ANY other reason besides "I want one" then you are wasting your time.

If you are doing this worrying about what anyone else will think, you probably shouldnt get one.

Everyone gets tat's for their own reasons, yours shouldnt be influenced at all by some strangers' opinions online.

And if you are getting it for other people to respond to, or care what others think, maybe you should think twice about this.

And LOL at Tattoos = a sign of being tough.
Most people who get tattoo's are gettin em for personal reasons, and usually dont get a tattoo for the idea of "now strangers will think im a badass and ladies will think im cool."

Point being, there are other ways to pretend something is more than it really is.
Just requires less money, more effort on your part and a bit more rationality than imprinting yourself.

Though that's my stance.

If you take one step outside of Westernized contemporary or culture, you'd know tattoos actually had a symbolic and worthy meaning during the process and the final result.

I got a Terran one, people give me stupid looks when I tell them its from a video game, but Starcraft is much more than a game to most of us, while others here it means very little.

I grew up watching BW with my dad, and love watching SC:2. Its pretty much all I do, and think about. Ill never forget the BW moments with my dad and what SC has done for me.

I really like this post, very grounded and rational, Ill keep that in mind, thanks

while I wouldn't put myself under any one of those categories, the very idea that I haven't got it done by now may be clue enough.

I personally dont have any tattoo's, nor do I ever really want to get one. However, I see people all the times with the triforce on their arm on the internet. I dont see how starcraft would be any different. I think someone would be way cooler if they a starcraft tattoo than tattoo of like a wolf or dragon or some random thing like that.

I think if you're straight-up about what it is and just tell people it's from your favourite game, then it means more than trying to curtain it as something other than what it is.

I commend you Xova.

Dude, it's a downright awful idea. Do whatever you want, but since you posted here for people's opinions I MUST say it's such a stupid idea.

My point is, its nobody else's business. Would it not be better for you to reveal what it is in your own time rather than a big Luigi there for the world to judge? A little vagueness is great from an artistic stand point and in all honesty would protect you from alot of hateful, ignorant scorn.

Thank you sir, I don't see why I should lie to people if it's on my body forever.

To the hater...What stupid about getting something you love tattoo'd? Being a video game or not, it's what I love, not what you love, and its my body not yours.

If it's nobody's business, why are you putting an image on the most apparent part for people to notice?

In addition, do you want people to be intrigued or everyone to fuck off and mind their own business?

Can't have it both ways...

It's not vague at all, it's obvious what it is, you're the one being personally vague, not the image. You're giving the image more than it is/intended to be.

would protect you from alot of hateful, ignorant scorn.

Getting a tattoo for all the wrong reasons champ :x I associate a tattoo with: "I don't give a shit what people think, this shit on me is cool/means something to me".

If you're worried about people's comments, knowing they're ignorant. Stick to writing songs, same effect, easier to remove from your repertoire of artistic talents or projections :B

I don't know why people are saying it is a terrible idea. If you really want it and have considered having it far into your old age and you're fine with that, then feel free to get it. I personally wouldn't do it, but again... if you can live with it and all the questions it may bring up then I honestly see nothing wrong with it. Personally I would go with the protoss one since I think it looks the coolest (but then again if you don't play Random then going with the race you play might be the best way to go).

Oh... I would also like to add that I didn't come even remotely close to reading that giant OP. Anyway... rant over.

Wow please assume yourself more intelligent than everyone you speak to, and assume they are ignorant from 2 lines in a single post.

Thanks for trying to show people your wealth of invaluable and irrelevant knowledge to the current subject.

I thought it was fairly obvious he wouldn't be getting a tattoo to show his status as a warrior or chieftain.

Thanks for telling the world something that everyone who isn't an idiot knows.

Edit lol NVM arguing with you is a waste of time. We are never going to agree and i know you are not worth my time.

Seriously you are the most self-righteous poster I have read on here lately.

If I wasn't positive you were being serious your posts would be truely hysterical. But the fact that you firmly believe yourself to be this incredibly wise person, shedding knowledge to the ignorant, is just annoying.
