thanks for the sharing and this nice idea! When I think of you as a Player and Part of TL, I always think of a different style and a different view on things. Its nice that you bring "out of the box" ideas to the community and SC2. Good luck with your marathon and vlogging, have fun with it! Dont know if you are a religious guy, but as a reverend, I will pray for your personal strength to get along with your condition! greetz from Germany, Benjamin

I agree with your comments on the drama adding to the game. Being a 1v1 game it's great to focus on the psychological aspects of one person(whereas in team games it's more about the dynamics between teams and within them) It's a great compliment to the game but shouldn't I have the same kind of symptoms of depression, I think they call it chronic depression(I'm a psych major <.<). It comes and goes like you said. It's indescribable the way it comes at you out of nowhere, for no reason. Just keep your ship afloat and keep fending off the waves when they come. Sail on to a sunnier day.

This however is not like that. The reason being that rather than making one of those schedules as a goal, you just set a goal to work towards. Which would allow you to fill in and play around with the time you have available as you build up towards achieving that goal. I think you will be able to sustain it that way and be succesful. Also like the physical activities mixed in, healthy body healthy mind. After watching the whole thing you point out many more. I like the pioneering idea. Think it could be great, definitely hope other will do it as well. Another note I would like to make is that during the lead up to I believe MLG Dallas, the first event? You made a video showing off your preparation for the event. The seemingly infinite stream of won ladder games, your keyboard bag and other important travel goodies a progamer enjoys. I really liked that and so I'm sure I will enjoy following these. Finally for the upcoming event and your approach to privacy. I thought about it a while back, what I came up with was basically to supplement your message to the fans. Because not everyone is gonna have heard it or will adhere to it, or even will make hand gestures, like sup, or peace and realize those can take you out of your concentration as well. So to help combat as much of these as possible, for people not to notice you or realize it's actually you before you've already past them, some kind of "cloaking"would be in order. We've all seen you start a trend before, The toss hoody. Preferably with zipper so you can easily change out of it since you need to wear your uniform for the media and stuff. Add on a cap and some gunnars/sunglasses and that could also help. Maybe a have a different costume the next day. So word to mouth can't reveal your identity. For reasons mentioned above but additionally if they do see it's you, the outfit really gives off the message of, "Hey, I'm making an effort to be invisible, leave me alone, I'm not available." Which can make more people decide to hold of on any interaction. These are all the points I wanted to touch on. I enjoyed it a lot, was scary having you full screen so close, very different from the smaller State of the Game video window but in a good way. Hope you can find more ways to put this vlog to use for you, because I would love to watch them. Best of luck the next days and I hope Raleigh will be a succesful event for you. Edit: Some sentences didn't make sense, also expanded an example.

Can't wait for the streaming in December, seems like ages away! Hahaha, is the SC2 1v1 going to happen after the alcohol? I assume it will be all in one go? That will be crazy and fucking hilarious lol (Start training, get wasted and play drunk - at your level it's going to be extremely entertaining) if it's at a convenient time I'll join you during the drinking part haha. but I won't run, eat donuts or even try to ladder (sounds so insane) lol

Well, if you set it up to 1 "thing" per hour, that's 1 mile, 1 game, 1 set of 10 chin-ups, 1 alcohols, and 1 donut in a whole hour. 1 mile would take what, like 10 minutes of walking? 1 game may be up to half an hour, 10 chin-ups, a donut and a beer might take 1-3 minutes depending on how much you want to taste the beer and donut.

This challenge really excites me as well, i'm on holidays in December so i will hopefully be there watching the whole thing! And you may have already thought of this, but for the challenge I reckon you should get a big piece of poster paper and make like a chart to show your progress throughout the day. On the chart have all your set tasks, and like tick boxes to record your progress in, just so people that are streaming in and out can see your progress and where you are up too! Just a suggestion.

I can understand the depression issues as a person who has serious issues with it himself, I deeply respect your honesty and you will always have my support and respect win loose are draw. the MLG Idea is great, Its understandable to want to avoid fan when trying to prepare for a serious match I think we can all understand that and the idea of setting up a time to meet and talk with your fans is a great alternative that still allow them to interact with you and for you too have the ability to properly prepare for your matches. Keep vlogging and I will keep watching them. <("<) Also Elliot Smith is amazing.

Regarding your training, Id love to hear in your next vlog entry about how your training for SC2 is set/scheduled. It seems like that might be an area where others might help you if you have to do a lot of the planning yourself. For my own physical training, it can be really hard to get motivated to plan a workout and do it sometimes. Having someone else on your team schedule an hour a day of a specific matchup or something might help you avoid some of the pressure. Anyway, best of luck, and keep doing this. It is great.

Basically, on ladder people lose about 50%. In such overworked events they lose even more often. This means to win 26.2 ladder games, requires to play possibly 60+ ladder games. For comparison, TLO's 24-hour event had 76 games played, and only part of them were on ladder. All this leaves very little time (if any) from the 26.2 hours of the whole event, to complete the marathon distance, eating junk, drinking alcohol, and 262 chinups... *dizzy*. GLGLGLGL! It would be very extreme for sure. xD

I really lol'd at you challenge! I once attempted half a marathon drunk after a party and completed in 2 hours and 4 minutes ^^ The only thing I would worry about if I were you would be the fact that your biceps and stomach might explode ![]() I really like the fact that you have decided to tell just something to all your fans. This is IMO a very good way to announce different stuff, also makes it a bit more interesting when it is a vlog and not a post. If you sometimes would talk about something starcraft related too it would be awesome (with this I mean builds and so on). I hope you will continue this, since it is a nice way for us (fans) to "get to know" you as you said yourself. I personally watch your games because it is you playing them. I don´t care if some of them are sloppy or bad (ofc I like it when you pull off something awesome! :D), as long as you are the one playing (sometimes commentating) I think it is awesome. I have learned a lot seing you play and hearing you talk about the game, which has made me a big fan of you and your playstyle, meaning that just you vlogging, for me, is really appreciated!

On a less serious note: I have no idea how you're going to eat 26 donuts and drink 26 drinks and then not have terrible terrible things happen to your gastrointestinal system.

The challenge sounds very hard to fulfil. What do you think about turning it into some kind of team challenge, so that you have more support for training and to complete it? I guess Sheth for example would be delighted to visit you and eat some tasty doughnouts and Jinro could help with some legendary Chin-ups. ![]() To keep the contest spirit alive you could measure who contributed the most to achieve the set goals and determine a winner of the challenge. But this is just my humble suggestion, good luck with the project and at the next MLG!

My people had a run 100 miles and drink 100 beers in a week challenge. That is more endurance oriented for a mid distance runner though.

You wanna start with SC2 since it's impossible you'll be in shape of playing XXX games after running and drinking so much so : Play and win those games, do the push and pull ups in between, maybe one set every 2 games (like, no less than every 15/20minutes). Probably insert a few drinks here and there but only a few, otherwise you'll be fucked for the running, you need to be in a fucking good shape to do that, not filled with donuts and beer... - So maybe 10 hours for winning the 26.2 games, having maybe 6 drinks and donuts, no more. And doing at least half of the pull/pushups in between games, maybe all if you're 'effing fit. - Then, if your body works like that, maybe take a 3 hours nap if you can, more if needed. And here's where it gets hard. And I mean it. - Running that marathon if you do it in one go, and after that you'll be DEAD. Rest one or two hours just to get back on your feets (well, in your chair cause you won't stand) - And then you have 4-6 hours to complete the last push and pull-ups, eat, and drink (man, 26 donuts ? URGH, the rest is fine but this....) which will be a big blow to your health lol. You could also split the running in like 3 parts, or maybe 2, one time 10miles, cause you're not gonna be tired after that. If you're in a good shape you should be able to start running again 13/15hours later being at 100% (minus what you did in between lol) You're going to have to do some serious planning to stay in the best shape for as long as possible :p Good luck Tyler ! It's a big challenge, but... can be done ! I'm curious to see how you're going to plan it out ![]() (Military speaking here, so I know a bit about how bodies work with long efforts like that hopefully, at least mine.)

Personally I think he should split it up into 26.2 chunks of each. It doesn't sound that hard to me to do 26.2 1 mile runes separated by like an hour. I wish you the best of luck with your challenge and I hope you can do really well this time at MLG. It's amazing that you can still be so dedicated and open about everything with depression looming over your head. For one, I've been more or less affected by depression ever since 2004 and I can tell everybody that it can be a living nightmare... everything in life becomes meaningless and empty and both the body and the mind feel depleted because of the uselessness you see in everything. Tyler's resolve is nothing short of exceptional! I'm amazed, sir... good luck with all your endeavors!

Its almost a waste to only run 1 mile though, Tyler looks like a fit guy atm and if he's going to train for this he can easily manage a couple of miles at time, it might get harder as he gets drunk and full with doughnuts, but I think separating the running into a few manageable segments is the way to do it. I'm not a big runner, and I don't know about other people, but to me the first mile is a lot harder than the next couple of miles after. I don't think there's any way to do the pull-ups than to just space them out, maybe 2 sets a short space apart and then a 2 hour break. Doing too many in one go will make it much harder to do the later ones. The Starcraft games depends how he wants to play it, I think just stick to standard play and if you get too drunk for that cannon rush since its fast and doesn't require as much micro as other cheeses. I don't really eat doughnuts, but to me 26.2 in that many hours doesn't seem like too much if you just eat doughnuts for all your meals. The drinking is the hardest part to me, because it makes the running and the Starcraft harder. It seems inevitable that you will be extremely drunk at some space in time and I'm not sure what you want to be doing during that time. I guess maybe building up slowly is the way to go, because I don't think you have time to sober up without having to make up for it later.

Maybe if you do one every hour it will be okay, but I really wouldn't recommend drinking that much for some streaming event. It's badass enough without the alcohol.

At minimum, I think your wins will average 10 minutes. 26.2 wins = 262 minutes. Almost 5 hours if you win 100% of the time. Marathon run = 5-7 hours. + drinks, + doughnuts + chinups (jesus christ, can anyone do that many chinups in a day?) IF you succeed... Man that'll be incredible. If not, you're still a boss. But be careful. Alcohol + exercise can be dangerous.

The first time I got the diagnose depression I was about 12 years old. I always seemed to think about darker things then other kids my age. This depression has followed me ever since and even though it's not been almost 9 months since I came out of my last relapse I know it's luring in the background. The thing people that doesn't have a mental illness doesn't understand is that it's really hard to talk about, unlike other (physical) illnesses. Only three of my closest friends know about my history of depression and to be honest I'm not completely comfortable with that either. Having people that can reach hundreds, thousands or up towards ten thousands talking about this makes a lot of diffrence. But I also understand that it's harder to do since you're telling that many people about something that intimate. So I'd just like to thank you for saying all this, you've got a hell of a lot of courage!

Well, maybe 2.62 vomits instead. Bowels of steel = serious! Not everyone wants to be like Idra, or Incontrol88 or Day[9]. Thanks for being my kind of hero. <3 P.S. Quality vlog. Like Phaedrus quality!

Interacting with pros at events was something I was really concerned at when I went to MLG Columbus for the very reasons that you named. I know if it was me, at times I would have issues with people coming up and asking for autographs and other things. While I agree with what Geoff said on SoTG that it was something needed for the growth of esports, I can see your point as well. Which is why I think it is SO cool of you to set up signings at all of the events. It's things like this that make you into such a favorite of the fans. I have dealt with depression in the past, and I am currently having issues with it again, so I can sympathize with what you are going through. I hope that things pick up for you soon and you'll be able to play at the level that you want. Good luck at Raleigh, and keep on keeping on!

Hang in there, man. One day they might even figure out why it happens and what can be actually done about it, but in the meantime doing what you love and taking care of yourself as best you can seems to be all you can do. As UnknownReclaimer said, keep on keeping on! As for the challenge, training for it sounds like a hilarious reason to get into the physical shape you want to be in. Go for it!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short-term_effects_of_alcohol#Effects_by_dosage I posted earlier in this thread but my post is lost, so here goes again. I don't know how you are planning to consume the 26.2 drinks, but I would recommend you are extremely careful. 26.2 drinks is enough to kill a person who has been eating healthily and drinking plenty of water. I have no idea what it could do to a person who has run a marathon, done like 300 chin ups and eaten 26 donuts. I'm sure you're planning on spreading the drinks out rather than dominating them all as quickly as possible, but I'm just posting to make sure you're aware of what drinking that amount of alcohol could do to you.

You're only supposed to count personal records from races; I haven't competed in the 800 or the mile (track) or the 3 mile (xc) since high school. In college you do 6 miles instead of 3, and another thing to consider is that the 17:34 personal record was on the Mt. SAC course.

That's why I said "I'm sure you're planning on spreading the drinks out". But the BAC chart almost doesn't apply in this case since he will be doing so much exercise on the day. 26 drinks isn't that much, i have friends that can drink 96 shots of pretty strong stuff in a nights worth of drinking so probably around 6 to 8 hours... 26 beers isn't that much. I'm sorry but science begs to differ. 26 drinks is enough to kill you. 96 shots is physically impossible, and if it were consumed it would definitely kill you. 96 shots over 24 hours would still kill you. Your friends are lying.

Good luck my man. 20 shots in an hour is very far from impossible, even if you have to go to detox after (not that everyone would need that, it's 0.4 L of alcohol, c'mon it's not inhuman quantity), 26 beers in an hour or even in a couple of hours would be impossible it's 13 liters and your body can't really make room for that much unless you have some super awesome metabolism. The alcohol itself in it is not so crazy, ofc depends on how good you are at drinking, in 26 hours, with 0.4 dozes of beer i would definitely take it, that's only like 10 liters, with 0.5 or higher dozes i'd need to prepare for it.

Marathon = 3 to 4 hours total time (splitting it up will help a bit), I fully believe you can do this, probably do a good part of it later on in the 26.2 hours. 26.2 games will be around 26.2 times 8 minutes (assuming effective all-in strats), and probably people who plan to support by losing quickly on purpose. Still, easily 4 hours. Donuts, as normal sustenance during the 26.2 hours, I guess you eat a bit less before, you make sure you sleep enough before, the first 10 will be fine. The running will help you have an appetite, but the last 6-8 will have to be forced down I guess. 26.2 drinks, the drinks itself will be fine I guess, it is a lot, but the effect they have on everything else will be the problem. I guess only the running you can still do when intoxicated. Chinups: This you will not be able to do if you only count a full set of 10 So if you fail at 8 or 9 reps, and you don't count it then, then you will not be able to do the 26 sets of 10. 262 in itself I can believe (still is a lot), 26 sets of 10 is too hard. I'd like to be proven wrong, but I think this is the hardest part of the challenge. Do 262 pushups! And please, vlog your training!

More seriously, I fully expect you'll be able to do the marathon and pull ups (though maybe five a set would be more humanly possible) and that you'll push through. Good luck, Liquid'Tyler, you are an inspiration and we will forever support you.

That sound crazy. Are we talking normal kind of beer? 130cc of alcohol /, 3406 cc total? I've drank that in a day. I'd run the marathon in advance. I am impressed, I'm going to try to get some people to try this also ![]()

I was really impressed by your candor about depression. My college experience was very similar to yours. I was doing awesome in class, acting, and undergrad research. But then my last year of college depression came out of nowhere and hit me in the face. I know how frustrating it is to deal with something thats completely irrational. But it seems to me that you've got a really good attitude to deal with it. I hope things improve for you soon =)

No, dude, you would be dead. Tyler, glad you are doing this. I don't know what else I can say besides I wish for the best regarding your depression. From where I am, a beer is .25L . So it's 6.5 liters and "ok". I sure hope he's not talking about 0.5L per beer :p

It's possible, but if you're talking 20 shots of spirits you could die. Yeah, your body can process 0.4L of liquid, but that's not what's dangerous - it's the toxicity of the alcohol. A male of average weight would be sitting somewhere between 0.30 and 0.45 BAC, which is in the range where you can die (0.5+ is basically guaranteed death). 20 shots in an hour is possible, but I don't think a skinny guy could handle it. 20 shots is about 0.9L and that's a large bottle of vodka. Its a lot but definitely in the realms of possibility, although some people's livers are as good at processing alcohol and they would be at risk of alcohol poisoning. I said it's possible. But you have a (high) chance of dying or being hospitalised, regardless of weight or ability to process alcohol. Seriously, every 2nd guy in this thread is like '20 shots? Yeah, that's not a big deal'. It scares me to know that people with such a lack of knowledge about the dangers of alcohol are out drinking it.

I hope for his sake that he remembers to drink a TON of water throughout the day. great first vlog by one of the coolest personalities in the scene. looking forward to seeing more.

I'm sure Tyler doesn't mean to do 26 standard drinks in one hour, anyway, unless he is a bottle-of-whisky-a-day boozehound.

As for depression, have you taken high doses of niacin? My girlfriend likes to research nutrition, and there are interesting studies saying very high doses of niacin treats depression wonderfully, as it seems to be a vitamin related deficiency. For example Bill Wilson the founder of AA for alcoholism was using niacin to treat depression: http://howtostopalcoholism.com/bill-wilson-used-niacin/ http://www.doctoryourself.com/niacin.html - "Another niacin feature is its ability to greatly reduce anxiety and depression." http://spasticgoat.com/2010/10/niacin-depression-cure/ - "Niacin (or vitamin B-3) has been a long-standing known cure for chronic depression and anxiety. Unfortunately, most of us have never heard of the potential emotional benefits to Niacin." And lots more: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=niacin depression

Loving the idea of a vlog, it just gives more player/fan interaction and strengthens our relationship. Really glad to hear that you're de-stressing, just know that your fans will support you no matter what so don't pressure yourself too hard. However, when you get the competition results you're aiming for, know that we will be there cheering you on. Streaming marathon will be great, why not donate that little bit to charity too - could get Krispy Kreme and some alco comps involved in sponsoring you too. Love, all the way from Australia.

But he has the whole day! Indeed. I have a friend who downed a liter of vodka after already being fairly drunk and he was just fine. Later on we went to a playground and he got spun up in a swing and when released he was a twirl of vomit.. But I think he coulda handled it if it wasn't for the swing incident. We were 16 or 17 at the time, so I can't imagine what he can do now.

I'm guessing doing the running early is better since you're wide awake, not as drunk and doing the SC games first would probably cause your legs to cramp or seize up later on... I'd probably try to do something like: - Breakfast! 4 or so donuts, maybe 4 shots - As many sets of chin-ups as I could handle - 2-3 games of SC2 to digest a bit - Half marathon? - Couple drinks - About an hour of SC2 as a cooldown, with a set of chin-ups in between each game - Lunch! 5-6 Donuts, Couple drinks - Couple of sets of chin-ups - 2-3 games of SC2 to digest a bit - Bang out the rest of the marathon - Fill up on donuts so that you're satisfied but not overly stuffed - 1 drink & donut per hour roughly for the rest of the time - Lots of SC2, with chin-ups in between each game or two. - After 25 or so hours total, adjust pacing on donuts/drinks so that you can bang out the last 4 of each in the last 20 minutes or so and keep on playing SC2. No clue if that's best, but it seems like the most logical... Getting some food in early is important in order to kickstart your metabolism for the day though. I'm always way hungrier throughout the day when I've had breakfast than when I skipped it.

You shouldn't feel any pressure, I for one don't expect a damn thing from you other than you to do your best, and I'm sure many others feel the same. Just enjoy the game and enjoy life. CAan't wait for your marathon attempt hahaha.

Appreciated the depression talk too. I had the panic attacks a few years back and have still yet to really shake it off completely. Prior to getting them i had no appreciation whatsoever for mentall illnesses, but i do now. I doubt it's a tenth as bad as MDD. I really feel for you dude. Anyway thank you Tyler, and i look forward to future installments. ps: I hope your lovely wife is on standby during your marathon, just in case you try and eat too many donuts too fast or something >_> Or if you can get more people to join you, that'd be awesome. You could compete / push eachother to finish the uhh... race. I'm still trying to get my head around the planning of it. That's a lot of food and drink to consume as well as needing to be mentally strong to win 26.2 games, as well as run that distance. I'm thinking split the marathon in half or thirds. Do one chunk of running, eat, play, drink, play, drink, Run. Eat, play, drink eat etc. Pull ups go wherever, i don't feel they'd get in the way, or be victim to the other excesses. CANT WAIT LOL

Haha. You have a good point. Maybe even space the drinks out over the course of the day so they have a minimal effect, or... do them all at the very end, after the games are done. Man that's a lot to do in such a short time. Good luck, sir! Also, I also love this vlogging idea. I'm frankly surprised no one is really doing it, yet. I would absolutely watch vlogs of my favourites players or maybe even of new players that would soon become my new favourites.

I had exactly what you described from 2001-2007, and the hardest part about it is that no one can help you. DONT take pills for it! For god sakes, please dont. Depression is a natural chemical reaction in your brain and putting foreign man made chemicals into it will only mask it and drag it out longer. I wish I could tell you how to snap out of it, but as you know, its not that easy. You are taking the right steps. Just keep physically healthy and keep yourself busy and one day, you will realize you havent felt the symptons for years. (yeah, it takes that long.) Good luck on all of your endeavors, I cant wait to watch the 26.2 marathon! Actually, most of the depression drug treatments are serotonin reuptake-inhibitors. In a simple sort of way, serotonin is responsible for stabilizing your mood. It does a lot more than that, but most pharmacological agents, with regards to mental illness, work on the principle of making your own neurotransmitters work like they should. Sometimes your body needs a bit of extra help. It's no different then a Type I diabetic needing insulin because his/her pancreas just isn't doing what it should be. There's no shame in that, and it's stigma like the above that gives a lot of potential treatments a really bad name. Depression is not a natural chemical reaction - typically it's a result of real life circumstances combined with an imbalance in your neurotransmitters. In some cases it's difficult to say which causes which. With that said, I have nothing against you being against it - many people are, and that's completely your right. My only compliant is that you should really get educated about this sort of stuff if you're going to give advice on it. ![]() Do what you need to Tyler. You're a cool cat and you have lots of support around here. ![]()
