This is my First blog entry. In this very first entry I wanted to tell you my story regarding gaming and how I ended up playing SC2 and entering this wonderful community.
I'm a chilean 25 years old M.D. working in a small countryside hospital near a city named Curico, in central Chile, who picked up gaming at around 12 years old, mainly FPSs, back when Quake II was Really, Really popular. I began playing ONE of its mods: "D-Day Normandy", the First team-based game of all time (and Really undercredited for that) under the nickname "WinterS" (way before Band Of Brothers came on air... Which pissed me off because a bunch of people stole my nickname, hence my new nick, "UmbraaeternuS"). I became a really good HMGer back on the day I played on my First clan ever, GeF (German Elite Forces). I was reckoned to be pretty good at that role, so I became part of CdL (Clan D-Day LaUnion) and afterwards, of Easy Company, arguably the best team in Chile. Then medschool came, and I had to drop the game.
When I had some more time, I picked it back, and became one of the very First community managers for that game in Chile. That possition quickly led me to become community manager of another game Which I enjoyed a lot, Call Of Duty (Vanilla). And before I knew it, I became one of the major administrators (in charge of the whole FPSs section) of Zoomby.net and then in ONE.cl, the largest latinamerican gaming sites back then.
There I learned the value of a gaming community, and went to big lengths to promote gaming in Chile, organizing LAN parties for CoD and CoD:UO, Which moved a LOT of players back in the day.
But enough of the FPSs time. Let me tell you how I picked up SC.
Around 2002 a friend at school showed me SC:BW for the First time. I played a little and realized I SUCKED ass at it, if it weren't for my sick zealot Rush. But because I was so Into FPSs at the time, I dropped SC:BW and disregarded it as a good game. man, I now know how mistaken I was back at those days.
I continued to play and administrate said communities until in 2010, SC2 came on the scene. I instantly picked it up and begun playing it, and fell in Love with the game. I became suddenly aware of all things SC related, such as the existance of some dude called "Day[9]" who was like a major guru of the game, notorious players such as IdrA, qxc and Jinro...
... And the existance of a site named TeamLiquid.
That is how I got here.
Now, over a year has passed since I picked up Stacraft 2. Long gone are the times of me being forever bronze brotoss; Thanks to all the threads I read here on TL, the countless hours spent watching Day[9] and his incredible show (BIG SHOUTOUT TO YOU, SEAN!! <3) and some lessons I was fortunately able to take with dApollo, I am now a diamond random player, with a good understanding of the game, playing with a clan called iGnite Gaming (check our blog at THIS LINK), which is nothing more than a bunch of friends who are together for the lulz and having an awesome time playing SC2, and recently begun casting games in Spanish (check my stream in THIS LINK)... And I begun casting because I sincerely believe there is a profund lack of good Spanish-language casters, because sadly not everyone in South America speaks english well enough to understand the great analysis and casting of beasts in the matter such as Tasteless, Day[9], Artosis or JP, for example. And as I wanted to make a difference back in the day when I played CoD, I want to make a difference and be a great Spanish-language caster, to bring all the spanish-speaking people I can the joy of this wonderful game.
So, that is my story.
This is who I am.
A doc with a passion for gaming.
With the dream to help make E-Sports big in South America.
Thanks in advance to all the readers who took the time to check out this blog and learn a bit of who I am and why is it that I love SC2 so much.
Peace.
