Yes, like said in title, I'm kinda progressing in Korean.

You know, learning Hangul is pretty easy if you have access to TL: Just go to MizU's super awesome blogs, be one of his students and you're done. You learn the hangul. But, when you learn hangul, you'll start showing tendency to read/write everything in hangul. By that, I mean:

1- sc2ranks: I don't think there is anyone on TL that doesn't wonder what progamers mean by those nicknames that are written in hangul. For example, you read every single nickname until you become one of the people who can easily recognize 해병왕프라임 and say that he is MarineKingPrime without further check (HaeByeong means marine and Oang, or rather Wang means king).

2- ygosu: Yes. Another place to check. I always surf around at BW replays of ygosu, which means that after some point, I just start reading names of players and knowing who they are. After some point, you first start recognizing famous progamers from their hangul names, without memorization, then you start tlpd-izing other people and in the end, you end up like: Jeong Jong Hyeon -> Mvp, Jin Woong -> Minus)Eagle, Park Seung Joon -> July or ZergMaN. After some point, you start seeing things like JeonPeuRo and JoonPeuRo and start confusing them. "Was it JeonPeuRo, was it JoonPeuRo, WTF LOL?!?!?".

3- afreeca: For some reason, I started checking tom's broadcast regularly. For those noobs, Tom is doing a show like Gisado's Clan #1: West Starleague. Basically it's clan matches of high ranked korean clans with peuros, jeonpeuros and joonpeuros and amachooeos, yeonseubsaengs in the lineup. After going a little bit in the lineups, you end up learning what those mean:

JeonPeuRo: Ex-Pro
JoonPeuRo: Semi-Pro
AmaChooEo: Amateur (a bit obvious)
YeonSeubSaeng: Practice Partner/Trainee
MooSoSong: Teamless

By the way, clan [S.G] has a very fat roster including these people:

MarineKing
Type-b
TheZerG
Hyvaa
HoeJJa
Tiny
Juni
Brave

Among all these, MarineKing and Type-b made me interested as one of them is a sc2 progamer and other one got convicted of match fixing.

[KaL] roster includes:

Shine
Tossgirl
Wooki
Perfectman
Rush
Bbyong
ZerG

[saM] roster includes:
Kwanro
Junwi (sc2 progamer who lost to jjakji in the final round of code a qualifiers, i guess he'll have a good amount of time for west starleague then)

Well, names like these and even more (especially on saM roster) surprise me a lot as they are either sc2 pros or pros from the stone age. Hell, s.g even has type-b in the roster. This is like [gm] clan attending with savior in the mix.

Funniest thing I've met: Minus clan registers Scan as USA Progamer (according to google translate, what does MiGeug, 미국, mean anyway?).

Anyway, I felt like I had to share this. Well, that's it for now. I'm going to play BW on fish. Gogo op teamliquid channel. I'm fed up with playing against computers and koreans instantly leaving my games.

I absolutely love your signature.

I tried learning hangul just for fun and because you simply can't evade it if you're into Kpop or BW. I learned all the player's korean names, idols' names, etc. Hangul is so much easier to read than Japanese characters (well, Kanji are basically chinese; the kana aren't that hard) so I'm considering getting into Korean seriously.

Do you happen to have any tips, apart from Mizu's blog - which I appreciate greatly but which advances too slowly?

Oh, yea: congrats on your progress!
Always smile~

Seems like you can understand really well. Congrats. I haven't been following your Blogs, but how long have you been learning it and how have you been learning it?

It's funny, once you can read and properly pronounce Hangul, even if you can't translate it, you start to realize there are quite a few English words that have just been Koreanized and switched over to Hangul.

Can you speak / listen / read / write? Or are you basically doing word-by-word translations now?

Good luck

Thanks for the clarification I'll probably laugh at USA progamer for a good time.

You probably did not miss anything for not following my blog, there are some stupid rl rants, korean gomtv links, BW battle reports and as the only blog about korean, this. The only "learning" I got about korean is mizu's super awesome blogs. I might check out the links in qxc's blogs too.

Right now, I'm able to do word by word translations with the help of a dictionary. In other words, I don't know shit (Well, I am able to use "안녕하세요 Djagulingu 입니다" to introduce myself, but so is everyone and their mothers). But as you said, there are quite a few English words that are Korean words just because they're written in hangul, and I got my fair share of understanding about them (It took time for me to get used to understanding WeMade out of UeeMeEeDeu).

Thing is, I learned hangul in a couple of hours 2-3 months ago by reading mizu's blogs and that's it, the only learning I had was that. I try to read simple stuff from miscellaneous places (the longest thing I've read and understood was slightly shorter than a LR thread one-liner when romanized). I think I can learn it before my school kicks in this october, if I try hard. My goal of korean is to translate some short stuff (short as a post game interview when someone all kills) for TL. That's top 3 in my to do list after climbing jesus statue in rio and going to rio carnival.
