First, the reason I play random is because I enjoy each race. However, I feel that this is something that really hinders my ability to get past the top 8 gold league trash I am right now. Being unable to pin yourself on set build orders and working around matchups because you are random is one of the most difficult things to get work out. That being said, I also have the ambition of that stupid achievement for 1k wins on each race. This has slowly decayed away from my wanting to get better at SC2 so it's not that big of a deal as it was at the start of season 1.
The hardest part of picking a race to go by for me has to be the harassment options each race has. Protoss and Terran having several viable options for drops, warpins and all around general worker harass. Zerg on the other hand have some options but the muta harass is something I don't have the micro to control right now. The downfall of my macro and micro is also noted here by the fact that it is difficult for me to get spell casters. Infestors may be one of the toughest units in the Zerg army; with the ability to harass with those beachball vomiting plague infested Reavers.
On the other hand with Terran and Protoss I always have this turtle vision of life that gets me nowhere but donating my ladder points. With Terran I work on making an army and can never work out an expansion unless I go out and attack; by that time it is far too late and I have no chance of winning with 3 working rax 1 starport and 1 factory(can one base even support that.) The expansion CC nowhere in sight as my opponent already has two saturated bases and a third on the way.
Protoss never gets any love; like the Infestor my army lacks High Templars about 85% of the time. I am almost always stuck to three gateways that seem to have the longest cool down between units being spawned that I would be better off not getting the warpgate tech. Many times it is 40 food army vs. 90 or 100. Looking among other parts of the Protoss tech tree Colloxus are so sparse that I have probably made more observers overall.
Amongst the three races I find it difficult to place down units to get map control. Possibly one of my larger flaws as a goldie disabling me from controlling the amount of expansions each player has. Attempts of stepping out of my turtle shell have only lead to stupid gimmicks of cheese or terrible ideas that I thought of on a whim.(speaking of which overlord Infestor drops don't work.)
Generally all around I am gold, so every aspect of my gameplay is flawed beyond my simple comprehension of the game. I have been looking at improving each aspect very slowly; this is where picking a race would really help. Ignoring everything I have said before this, and possibly the true reason for this post is that I want to get better at SC2. My choice of random is possibly one of my largest flaws at this point of time. The constant marco polo pool battle of these three races is straining on my game mechanics and over all gameplay.
My current wins for each race from the start of Season 1 (using the stupid Achievements for each race)
Z: 85
T: 93
P: 102
R: 280
So any suggestions or choices from other players that play random?
