Can anybody point me to some other games that use weapon leveling mechanics and maybe a brief idea of what made the game fun/interesting/not interesting?
Games with weapons that level up?

It's imho a silly idea anyways as in reality weapons get worse by using them, not better. Also this game design often forces you to grind (depending on the game) to level up your weapons if you change them later.

I remember Planescape Torment had a character, Dak'kon whose sword leveled as he did. Which was nifty cuz it was the only weapon he could wield. But Torment wasn't much about maximising character potential in battle, more the story elements, so perhaps not the best.

For a non-RPG, Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory was an fps where you levelled up skills and your weapons got better. E.g. iirc there was a light weapon skill to level up, sensory, and probably 2 others.

It's a pretty cool game, you have a dragon as well which will level up too and so, killing is a lot easier. You can somewhat compare the game to Dynasty Warriors. I do remember playing drakengard now! That was worth playing just for the weird as all hell alternate endings. I though it was really neat how every weapon had a different magic you could cast if it was equipped and would change shape as you leveled it.

Wasn't it just a character based level of competency with weapon types? Wasn't sure on FFXIII since I haven't heard the best impressions but since it's popped up twice I should have a look. Ninja Gaiden is a very cool game but the weapon level up system there seems like it's just a gateway system for the higher grade combo's like the izuna drop. I've got a friend with disgaea should be easy enough to acquire :D

I actually really like the series just because of how ridiculous it gets. If you are a perfectionist/completist, get ready to spend a lot of time on this game. To give you a frame of reference, I spent over 200 hours on Disgaea 2, and I was nowhere near close to having everything in the game. FF2, as was mentioned, has a leveling system based on how much you use weapons/whatever, but I didn't think it was too great. I know Dead Space has a weapon leveling/powering up system.
