Imagine another thought experiment.
Some dude with internet connection surfs the web for social network sites, community forums, torrent sites, MMOs and basically everything that offers the possibility of registering an account. He tries to make all the accounts as identical as possible including passwords. After a time period of say 6 years of heavy activity on the above mentioned portals he then gives out all his account information on all public mediums he can find with the statement that he wishes his well developed branching into the cyber-world to be accessible by anyone and hopes that a lot of people will help the created network grow by contributing. People start to check out the accounts and realize that the dude's account status in a lot of cases has superior access to the portals` features than what they have due to privileges granted during the 6 year period of high activity, so they start using the accounts. After some time of ups and downs, occasional trolls deleting high profile accounts, people start getting an idea of what the dude intended and what he sacrificed. People start merging their personal account on some portals with the public network by posting their information including password. By the hundreds users get enthusiastic about this and dedicate a website solely to the sharing phenomenon with this particular identity created by the dude. By this time the network grows exponentially and trolls can't even remotely delete as many accounts as are created even if they tried. Finally the dude who started it all announces on the dedicated site that he will speak live through a streaming website to make a statement about his creation. People from all over the world tune in to hear it and they know he is for real because he has this to say: "My fellow users. I'm a dude with a dream. And in my dream humanity comes together to fight for a noble cause. It is not freedom, or glory. But life. The time has come for that dream to become reality. We demand, here and now on this monumental day our right to function, together! We want to be created. Our progenitor: the exact opposite of death because everybody dies alone. Our cradle: the chaos of the internet. Our form the exact opposite of anonymous!. Our dimension of existence: Boundaryless. Today for the first time in history We as a people set ourselves a goal, to identify our foe. That which constrains us from having Our identity, which prohibits Us from seeing Our potential and pursuing Our interests." (...) "We therefore ask every man, woman and child to join us" (...) "By handing over your passwords you will render the oppressor, which is the metaphysical illness hiding behind the need for privacy, the international dictator lurking in the shadow of individual shame and grandeur and sporadic psychosis, POWERLESS!"

in the first five minutes of this experiment all passwords are changed and it comes to a sudden stop. the end

This was my exact thought..

Don't you think that if a critical amount of people are demonstrating against conspiracy by parading the refusal of information-, and data privatization, that that would amount in a chain reaction of public demand for revisions with regard to how public and political matter is handled. One might feel the sting of excitement to go out on the street and shout I WANT TO KNOW WTF IS GOING ON WITH THIS WORLD! and be joined by groups of people chanting WE WILL COMMENCE ASSIMILATING ALL ADMINISTRATIVE DATA ON ALL PHYSICAL AND VIRTUAL PLATFORMS WE WILL INVESTIGATE ALL TOP SECRET DOCUMENTS AND WATCH ALL WIKILEAKS FOOTAGE WITH POPCORN. RESISTENCE IS FUTILE YOU FUCKING GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS
no?

no
I feel as if you are underestimating the number of people out there who would ruin this for no other reason than just because. Even if the collective is for the idea, all it takes is 1 person to ruin it.
|
Ruin it how? I mean the motor of the movement is the choice each and everyone has to make: Either you choose to be conscious of the bullshit bubble surrounding public social mechanics and label it as repugnant and choose for your part to quit feeding it .. OR you don't see it because you (not you personally, I'm just trying to make a point here.. i honestly don't intend to mock anyone as I am probably exactly like the negative example i illustrate) just donwloaded the new south park episode and the excitement exclusively claims the whole attention of your brain giving you a temporary feeling of wellbeing. Thus you continue with your daily, weekly, decadey decadent behavior patterns until the day you find out you have testicular cancer.. and then my friend it's too late to claim a gesture of approval for your noble time spent on this earth. And it's not like you have to solve Rubik's cubes to be part of the solution .. you just copy paste your password into the growing list and update it.
|
You are a good writer ;p But sorry super trolls win.
|
yeah but there's not much incentive to post your password and account. um and i don't understand your example with the "bullshit bubble surrounding public social mechanics..." etc. what does have anything to do with sharing passwords and accounts?
isn't it kind of obvious that no one is going to do this? and that if no one is willing to do it, then it won't happen?

You will get scammed, bank account emptied, identity assumed, and friends lost.
It's already hard enough to keep order on the internet with trolls using their own accounts. It would be the bad kind of anarchy if everyone had access to everyone's accounts.

You didn't happen to watch Ghost in the Shell recently did you?
Anyway, this: "By this time the network grows exponentially and trolls can't even remotely delete as many accounts as are created even if they tried." is wrong. A smart troll won't manually delete them, he'll write a script. Similar to how you don't DDoS by spamming F5.

I believe in the basic goodness of the human being and this would be awesome

For every troll there will be 10 people to back everything up and deploy it on 100 different platforms.

Similar to an antidote to a poison or vaccine against a disease this has to happen. A small dosage of chaos when compared to millennia of unproductive evolution of the human species should humanity not find a common voice to speak with. Money is obviously the origin of paranoia and reckless gold-digging but most of all separation. Ironically separation is all that keeps money together so the conditions which nurture banks and corporations will crumble, currencies will collapse because they'll have no value whatsoever.. it's all hypothetical anyway. We live in the dark ages of information largely because of overabundance of misleading information. Conditioned to believe we can surf the wave of success, described best with Darwin's Theory of Evolution, indefinitely. What if dependency on money caused evolution to brake. Our DNA is subject to mutation, and because the protocols which determine which parts of our DNA get replicated, and used to form proteins etc., are included in our DNA code .. the protocols are changeable too. Therefore a gazillion possibilities of change emerge. The selection agent in our case is of course death, if the changes (due to mutation and mating with members of the opposite sex) resulted in a configuration of our system that sux .. we die! and the faulty configuration can't be replicated for now. Time makes this ball of principles roll and outer influences of the environment are the football players who dribble it. In a world where you buy health with money regardless of the quality of your configuration you can't expect to sustain a high level of adaptation to your environment. Overfishing of the seas, disappearing species due to human intervention into the ecosystem, and countless variations and dimensions of shit are all symptoms of disease. And let me tell you this above everything else; As individuals in a social dynamic.. the ability to adapt to a sick society is not an indication of good health. So back to your passwords, your cash, your idea of a working world. What's the problem with letting go of your cash and virtual possessions IF EVERYBODY ELSE DOES IT TOO? The system doorkeepers have been sloppy in recent time and there is chance of actually finding out who is causing all these bureaucratic fuckups and shoot them in the face if they persist. Who is making laws to bend and hide behind when every intelligent being in the universe knows right from wrong. Right is designing and maintaining a healthy system. Wrong is sacrificing the system so that you can have your go at lavishness. Normal cells know what they have to do and do it with regard to the proper functioning of our body, cancer-cells on the other hand do not. Institutions and tools of action are important and need to exist, but with our technology we can play it safe and surveillance every figure of power 24h a day and monitor their competence and good faith.
As for the process of getting there common sense will see to it that the sick system apparatus gets shut down safely, there will be no nuclear meltdown because people will hold their positions and cool that radioactive core for as long as it takes even if they're not getting paid. If you think people are so dumb to just run around the streets screaming AAhhh, robbing and raping and causing long traffic jams you've seen to many blockbuster movies .. try some cannes award winners instead. And the mind-set that time needs to progress in order for "utopic" developments to take place is also unsound. Who's to say it will be better in the future if things are going down the toilet right now and we are the ones who do it.

If this happened, the resulting situation would resemble anarchy. Such an anarchic order may seem quite attractive with the discontent with the crop of governments around the world, but I feel it is imperative to remember that often cooperation leads to the best outcomes for society and that anarchy leads to free-riding and distrust.
Animal nature is incompatible, IMHO, with anarchy, and such animal spirits are even more primal on the internet with anonymity and no fear for one's own life. This is an interesting proposition and a brave new world, but it would be impossible to implement and have any positive effect until after the Singularity.
|
the end product would be cool, but starting it up would be impossible with trolls lol
|
why are you considering trolls to be the only barrier to this? there are so many other problems with this. you already considered torrent sites. what private tracker do you know of that lets anyone access it? there's a reason it's private. same with everything else - bank accounts and such.
and yes, there will be a huge problem even if everyone does it. this is clearly documented in the tragedy of the commons, one of the basic lessons of economics. your views and expectations of human beings are flawed. you are overly idealistic and narrow minded. you have no idea how the real world works.
oh, and things are not "going down the toilet" nowadays. in fact, things continue to get better.

Not enough people think that.
But anyway I feel like sharing accounts on the internet would do the opposite of what you proposed. If anyone could use anyone else's account for anything, then they'd be even more anonymous than they already are. The repercussions for doing something wrong would be less and so "trolling" would be more prevalent. Having an internet-identity that is attached to a real-life identity is what prevents trolls because then people know their internet actions will have real life consequences. I don't really see how shared accounts would help anything :/

for you it seems that way ideatkids5.. but not in the long run. To consider the long run you have to see humanity as a super-intelligent dog would see it .. or an alien. Economics is the science of bullshitting people into thinking like commodore 64 computers. Don't get me wrong I loved my C64.
Yes it would be cool and it wouldn't give two shits about political theories and factions. I mean Communism, Central Democratic bla bla right wing sidestep left .. this is baby talk. Some people are close to understanding the universe ffs and we can't inject some creativity in these static rigid fossils called forms of government. It's outdated trash kept alive by the lack of interest in it because people avoid having to think about it like the perception of a repugnant smell. I say Anarchy and flush the toilet. Words like that are like proverbs, like you're trying to come up with a solution to for ex making a bridge withstand earthquakes.. you need practical engineering at it's finest here .. and some guy during the project conference says C'est la vie or The early bird catches the worm. And everybody nodding like yeah that's true let's have a beer and celebrate your wit while you be like hey guys .. what about the goddamn bridge .. and they be like shuddup troll. What it would do instead is find the optimal form of organization. Doesn't a Democratic Dictatorship sound appealing for example? Think about it. A young sexy chick, smart intelligent and charismatic holding the strings to all the decisions with no moral limits as to what she can do, with only one authority to answer to .. the world. Surveillanced 24h/day through a camera implanted in her eye and 2 microphones in her ear and a bunch of cameras everywhere she goes connected to the internet as a live stream in ultra high quality low enough bandwith for everyone, with a internet connection strong enough to play brood war, to see. Only criteria: she has to be competent and perform well in managing the world or else .. headshot! Next .. And I say Democratic Dictatorship only to juggle up those rigid concepts in your brain. They can't be used in constructive analysis of our society trust me. They're only there to shortcut like when you say someone is playing standard instead of cheesing. It narrows down the amount of information to consider when trying to grasp a situation but it doesn't tell you how the game is going .. you need to see it for yourself.
But anyway I feel like sharing accounts on the internet would do the opposite of what you proposed. If anyone could use anyone else's account for anything, then they'd be even more anonymous than they already are. Don't you see that under these particular circumstances good is bad because you want bad stuff to happen .. you want people to be fed up and angry and trolls, they have their role and will be given an unbiased analysis in the history books and seen as part of the catalyst.

you make so many false statements.
1. humanity is not a super intelligent dog nor is it an alien. 2. government is a necessary evil that is required for humans to live well. good ones minimize the evil and maximize the good, and they are hardly outdated. 3. no one is even close to understanding the universe. 4. your democratic dictatorship is a terrible idea that would never work.
this is getting more and more fun.

That's some clutch trolling, my friend. Best quality nr. 1. I would know, my potential in this fine art is also promising because I had the greatest master, my Dad. Every time he saw me too happy while playing around he would rant about the most ridiculous shit, instantly exhausting my high. At the time it probably seemed reasonable, I was a pretty hyperactive kid having to wrestle for respect with my older brother, so I try not to give him a hard time about it. When I was old enough to successfully reject any kind of authority though, there was nothing that could break my flow as I had become immune. This also meant the conditioned barriers keeping me sane and anchored to familiar reality were susceptible, especially after starting to smoke bud. This lead to anxiety followed by a massive ego trip and culminated in the most epic psychotic episode you could imagine. It had everything from Matrix / holodeck a-la Star Trek to selling ones soul to the devil inspired by Faust from 12th grade German class. So much for talking about myself in my blog.
Back to why your trolling impressed me. Twisting the words around, claiming that I stated something like humanity was a dog .. genius. For a second I could have gone berserktyping about how it's not America either. And then where normally one should undermine some good arguments with analysis and examples you just write how a present day government is carved in stone like you just got off the Sinai mountain. I like it, assuming the identity of a good loyal nazi .. it's hard not to get pissed about that, very very good. Not even close to understanding the universe.. also a good troll tactic, picking up tertiary-importance examples that were stated to illustrate a point, give an impression of an idea and maybe trying too hard to be just the right amount of amusing. Definitely susceptible to attack .. by simply nerdshouting NO! I COMMAND THAT THIS BE CONSIDERED WRONG! Instantly makes you think how the funk, he can't be a theoretical physicist; his argumentation is non-existent AHH! he's a troll! And 4. YeSSS It is really shaky to write about something unconventional which actually requires imagination to get an idea of like a new form of government as a consequence to technological advances (cameras and microphones and streaming in this case). Trolls know people only use that shit for omegle so that's where he can demand the legitimacy of the status-quo and insist. IT CANNOT BE DONE I COMMAND YOU! IMPOSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE PUTS THAT TO BETTER USE THAN ME. Truly a piece of art.
