Most Starcraft players tend to watch better players (especially pros) in the form of livestreams, VODs or replays either to be entertained or to learn their playstyle and eventually adopt them into their own. While I have seen my share of professional play from Starcraft players, particularly from Sheth and Haypro, there is one particular player I tend to follow the most and he is no pro himself. I am referring of course to TotalHalibut and his I Suck at Starcraft 2 videos.

I don't learn much from his streams, but for some reason, I watch them to keep me motivated. Everytime before I ladder, I tend to watch the streams or at least the recorded ones on Justin.tv because the time he usually streams is early in the morning based on my time zone. His videos for the most part are entertaining especially when he rants every now and then. And for some reason, whenever he plays, he makes me feel better when I am on laddering. :/

One thing I am not too satisfied with is the fact that while he is going to play a commercial, I can't friggin see it. I don't have an AdBlocker of any sort and I still get nothing. The least I can do to show my appreciation is to click the ads so that he can fund for more future tournaments. And I do have to say, he makes a damn fine commentator with his British accent. XD

Anyways, just thought I would post a blog of appreciation. Thanks for reading and GGHF and all that.

Sometimes there just aren't ads to play for your region. It happens for every stream.

Yea I had this same problem and asked around and it seems that justin.tv commercial are restricted per country. Advertisers buy ads and chose which country they wanna target. And apparently not many of them target Brazil or Philippines, so we don't get to see them. Still not sure if he gets the revenue anyway (I do know you don't really need to click the add, they automatically get revenue % every time they /commercial)

But I agree TotalBiscuit is awesome to listen to regardless of his skills. From my newbie perspective (I didn't even buy sc2, never played, only spectate), I really cannot find problems in his lack of skills. Most great sport casters have never been players themselves.

For some reason it's just fun to watch him struggle and trying to keep up with the pace. It makes you feel better about not being able to keep up yourself. The pro-streams make everything look so easy and you feel worse about not being able to do those easy things yourself.

Basically, TBs stream is a "feel good" stream. The effect is even better due to his awesome voice.

Also, TotalBiscuit isn't so bad imho, he knows what to do, he just has horrible multitasking

I actually had no ads during the breaks for TSL3, was wondering what that was all about... Or were the breaks just breaks? haha, it felt like a commercial was supposed to show. I certainly don't have any adblocker stuff either.

Well, in germany i could do without the Ads, as they usually target the totally wrong market...
For TSL3 i got L'Oreal Paris Mascara advertising... i know there are women playing Starcraft 2, but enough to warrant Advertising on a SC2 stream? :p

I still don't bother to block the ads, at least they help the streamers.

Yeah, I get Almay makeup ads a lot. Or Reebok running shoes... but yeah, TB is, in fact, an awesome caster.

When it comes to serving ads on videos, it's all about selling inventory. It's the same reason that sometimes you see the same ad a lot, because that's the majority of the inventory. Dubai apparently did a huge ad buy recently and a lot of our channels (mine, Husky, Psy etc) are getting Dubai ads on Youtube. Selling inventory is also done on a region by region basis and since Justin.tv don't have Google ads, they have to actually have their staff go out and get business in order to fill their ad inventory. It seems like JTV have some ways to go yet in order to bring in good business from the European side of things, which is unsurprising being that up until recently they've had big problems streaming to european viewers. I'd expect that issue to resolve itself in future and I wouldn't get too worried if ads don't display in your region, it's hardly your fault.

He is funny and great at commentating he just sucks at sc2 lol. It's totally fine because he knows it and explains it in nearly every video I seen him in...his videos are called "i suck"... I havent seen him play a lot so I have no clue if hes improving but it would be a bit more entertaining if he knew what he was doing.

I found this video to be especially hilarious and anyone coming here to respect the biscuit who hasn't seen it should probably see this epic troll.

thing is, TB knows jack shit about the game and it's tactics and what not. BUT he is the best caster out there for begginners, since he actually shows the emotional part of the game, giving us one hell of an exhilirating time with his casts. All the shouting and expressions he uses are great. If you doon't know much about the game, I think he is the portal to the game.
Thanks to him I bout this life ending gameT_T

I always thought of him as a very interesting person because he is always so... well, enthusiastic lol. For the longest time I didn't understand why he was doing SC2 when he does like so much stuff for WoW.

He's a good caster, I think he brings energy to every cast.

He stopped playing SC2 after he got married.

WoW is more of a job, I do still enjoy the game but it's luster has faded after 6 years of playing it and I'm very jaded to the Blizzard and their attitudes in it's continued development. SC2 is something I just really like doing, it doesn't make me anywhere close to the kind of money my SC2 and game review videos do, but it's more fun.

It's good to see people catching on to the benefit of having both analysis and a professional caster who genuinely enjoys the game and can entertain. Also, hes getting pretty good numbers on his stream compared to a lot of the pros. Some people just want to have fun when they're watching a stream especially when we have people like Day9 who already give incredible analysis.

I appreciate you playing a lot of Starcraft and streaming em for all to see, even if it means you ending up getting ghosted. I could watch your streams live more often, but least I got the JTV archives!

This just goes to show you don't have to be a grandmaster to be entertaining. I love watching TB's Starcraft 2 srteams. Not only can I relate, being in Gold league myself, but I'm always rooting for the guy. He's just a fun character to listen too. Watching Starcraft as an e-sport shouldn't just be all about watching the top Grandmasters and pontificating on deep tactics and strategies. Sometimes you can just watch e-sports just to have fun watching it. Whether it's watching your son's little league game, having a Superbowl party, or watching the next MLG, you don't have to be a top player, or watching only top players to have fun watching the game.

totalbiscuit is a very entertaining commentator. he isnt the best player, but since he plays terran and i am not such a good player- i can learn from both his mistakes and his skill. besides- watching him scream like a chick when banelings annihalate his entire army is awesome!
