Last night a friend of mine shared a video of a guy who goes by MattRach on Youtube shredding the entirety of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance". The concept of that was incredibly intriguing to me. The catchiness of pop infused with the face melting power of metal. I decided to search for similar videos and came across what I can only describe as skull crushing awesomeness. His name is 331Erock on YouTube and he can shred his ass off. You may be thinking that this belongs in the YouTube thread. Well you're wrong. I searched for his username here and found nothing so I brought it upon myself to expose our community to this virtuoso.

It's almost Friday.

My review of this video is as follows: Holy Shit. The end.

I won't list the entirety of his videos so as not to ruin the surprise for if and when you go to his channel. He does a few Katy Perry songs, a Ke$sha song, a couple more game themes, and a bunch more. This guy needs more recognition. He seems to do a lot of requests as well. I think with a little bit of effort, we could get him to do some of our favorite K-Pop tunes. ^^

This is pretty \m/ if I do say so myself.
I love how he did Friday, that song has gotten so much attention.

That's pretty crap honestly, sounds totally soulless and bland. It's like he put no thought into it, just playing it with his crappy guitar tone as close to the original as possible.

It's certainly possible to take a song and sensibly cover it in totally another style than the original, (example) but it does require effort.

Uh this guy is terrible. Metal bands have been covering pop songs since the beginning of time, but it generally doesn't sound this bad.

Harsh responses. I can understand why but I didn't think linking RB was not such a great example imo. He's no Muhammed Suicmez of course but really, terrible?

Maybe i've lost touch with my metal ways.

I'm impressed by his talent. He clearly is a damn good guitarist. I gotta agree his metal sound is fairly "soulless" in a sense though.

I like it, but I don't tend to listen to metal so it doesn't sound bland or soulless at all to me. Then again, I'm used to listening to music without lyrics, could that be part of the reason why people think it's so bland?

No, there are great metal songs that have no lyrics, it soudns bland because he just plays notes to resenble the original. Look at some random death metal cover of a pop song, it is goo because it is hilarious, this is just playing notes to sound like the song, no emotion

Theres a reason the shred genre never caught on. Because spamming predictable melodic scales up and down over generic chord progressions is boring to listen to and less accessible than what pop does with it.
