So if you're anything like me, (and if you were my age) in 9th grade the coolest thing to you was the Razer DeathAdder.
I begged my parents to get me one. And after enough pleading my folks gave in and got me one from NewEgg. I opened it with glee and plugged it in. Set up controls, hotkeys, macros, whatnot. Fought sensitivity for months and months until I got good with it. It actually did improve my America's Army. And the macros made graphics design so much easier.
But America's Army gave way to Team Fortress 2.
And Team Fortress 2 gave way to Brood War.
Brood War would eventually give way to StarCraft 2, but that's not the important factor in the story. The important factor, of course, is the mouse. Which, despite its slight scratches, peeling, and cracking has stuck with me. For the three-four years that I've had it I've never doubted it as a gaming mouse. RTS. FPS. It came with me to college, where it sat on a mousepad and clicked Blackboard, essay submission links, and lab reports.
But last night, something happened. Whether it was pressure from my textbooks or a fall against the ground, I pulled my DeathAdder from my backpack to find this.
My concern wasn't that I wouldn't have a mouse. As soon as the wire on it started giving out (bout three months ago) I'd gotten another one and it's still sitting in the box. My concern was that this mouse that's guided me through thick and thin in the computing world had finally hit its breaking point.
I plugged it in and sure enough it still worked.
There was just this missing left trigger button.
My finger skittishly skated along the groove where the button once was. Instinctively I applied pressure and sure enough it still clicked. A new sensation? Yes. But a good one. I liked the feel of it. It felt foreign, but good. I hopped on ladder to test it out. A few games and the results were clear. My reaction time felt better. It felt like it took less time between my thoughts of "click click" and the click actually registering on the computer.
I don't know how much longer my baby will last, but I definitely enjoy using his groove instead of an actual left click button. Either way I'll miss him when he finally gives out.
[Note: I'm not like some massive razer fanboy. Obviously at one point I was. Now I'd say their products are okay but the DeathAdder is my gaming mouse of choice through and through.]

Hey happy birthday! And congrats on taking good care of your mouse. Now I feel like a bad person, haha. Yeah mine got squished between my textbooks and whatnot a lot.
I had my mx518 for a long time as well, probably 4-5+ years. It started "double-clicking" even though i just clicked once, right when the starcraft 2 beta came out. Now i have Razer "Mamba", and im super happy with it so far!
I was wondering why the razer logo didn't wear out, but I'm guessing it's not like a cheap etching on the salmosas that wear out completely after like a year of use.
That's pretty crazy, though. Lol do you just like slam it against the wall after a bad game of sc or something? I can't really see textbooks making those holes in the first pic, though.

Maybe a cat? ^^
It's strange how a person gets attached to something.
I still have (and use) my very 1st mouse pad that I bought back in 1998 (!). And it's not even a 'good fancy one'. The problem is that the pad is very old and and a few (or should I say several?) years ago it started to ravel out little by little. Of course I'm going to buy a new one but 'not yet'. The mousepad is still usable...!
Yeah. I'll only buy a new one when this one is completely pulverized!
Nothing can come between a boy and his love for his mousepad!!! :D

My mx510 is 7-8 years old now and counting The Logitech logo has been reduced to a grey ring due to friction, and the scroll-wheel is starting to skip a step here and there, but otherwise it's structurally intact and works precise as ever. Outlived 3-4 PCs, what a beast of a mouse!

Me too!!! It almost looks like new too haha. The only thing is that the logo is gone. Even tho I brought it to 10 (TEN) different Dreamhacks, and more than 10 other LANs.

There aren't really any holes. Just scratches and cracks. Squished between textbooks = the housing cracks.
