You have to put yourself in the shoes of a police officer approaching a stopped vehicle. He has no idea who you are and he is always walking into an entirely unknown situation. You could be some kid who screwed up or you could be some crack-dealer with a gun. It all looks eerily the same until the situation is resolved. For every decent person that the police officer has dealt with in the course of his day, he has dealt with just as many if not more belligerent, insulting, inconsiderate dicks. Forgive him for framing his encounter with you based on his most common experiences. They're just people doing a job. Outside of the job, they're average, decent people for the most part. You want cops to give you the benefit of the doubt without any desire to return the favor. I never understood why people get mad at a cop for doing his job and busting you for doing something dumb. I tend to get more pissed at myself when I get pulled over for speeding or something dumb, because it means I was being too dumb to keep an eye out for cops. anywho, people who bitch about all cops being assholes are almost always either uppity jerkoffs in all facets of life, or they're an idiot who got busted doing something dumb and doesn't wanna man up and accept responsibility. unless you've done something so egregiously stupid, getting out of a ticket or getting a lesser offense is as simple as checking your ego before your open your mouth and just being respectful

I usually just drift in a relatively empty parking lot if im meeting up with friends, i'll drift into my spot - or i drift for the two turns before I get to my house in my neighborhood. It's tons of fun when it's not dangerous and there's enough snow on the ground :D Was in a parking lot, the only time i really ever drift is in a parking lot, im very aware how stupid people can be on the road and never risk an accident that way. The fine he wanted to give me was stunting which someone mentioned earlier but said it was 420, maybe different in calgary? I do agree that if you break the law you deserve it, my one ticket i got was about 700 dollars going about 70 over the speed limit and i agree i deserved it. Thought he was going to jail me so i guess he's nice lol. Last night however i didnt feel it was just, the stunting charge is usually quite a bullshit charge that is last resort for cops, had a friend of mine get a stunting charge because she slipped on ice lol.. I just wanted to get a feel what other people thought, ofcourse i can pay the charges i save a lot of my income so i wanst to worried.

Cops aren't the problem, just the laws, I think. We're way too focused on these exact speeds that we must drive at, when really, the safest speed to drive at really depends on the conditions of the road. And often times, driving at exactly the speed limit is less safe than driving over. It will typically get people frustrated with you and have them tailing your bumper, not a fun experience. In my experience, going with the flow of traffic = 100x safer than going the "speed limit." In any case, I'm glad I have a crappy car so cops mostly ignore me.

First ever ticket: I was driving my sister home from her ortho appointment and the car in front of me was a total douche. He slammed on the brakes once so I had to do the same to avoid hitting him. I slowly backed away from his car so I could get a little more breathing room if he did the same and he did it, but this time with more force. I had to slam on the brakes again to avoid hitting him. Next thing I know, the cop behind me is flashing his damn lights and pulling me over. It was a 5 pt tailgating ticket (12 pts gets your license suspended) and I plead guilty and got it down to a 2 pt ticket + $450 in court. On top of that, the guy gave me a tint ticket for $45 even though he didn't see my front tints. The worst part about this ticket was the guy didn't even let me explain what happened. He didn't want to talk at all. He just walked up to my car, said "License and registration" and walked away. That's it. No questions as to what happened or why I had to stop so quickly. Awesome... 2nd time getting pulled over: I'm on my way home from school. The speed limit is 55 mph and I set my cruise control @ 60 mph. Since BMWs are have inaccurate speedometers, I knew I was well under 60. I was going 57 mph, to be exact, according to my GPS. I keep driving and just relax w/ my windows down listening to DJ Okawari. Out of nowhere, some cop comes from behind me with his lights flashing. The entire time I'm thinking to myself, "wth did I do?" I wasn't doing anything wrong. I was in the right lane, going 57 in a 55. If I seriously got pulled over for 2 mph, I would flip. I wait for the officer to approach my car and asked him what was going on. He tells me he was pacing me going at 68 MPH (LOL). I argued with him for a good 5 minutes about how that's impossible since I had my cruise control set at 60 and then he tried giving me a ticket for going 60 in a 55. I continued talking to the douche for another 10 minutes and then he took my license/registration back to his car. He came back and said that since my record was clean and that I told the truth about my past offenses (tailgating/tint), he would let me go. I don't know whether to consider myself lucky for getting off or what. He was a douchebag though. 3rd time: I was in a 30 MPH area and I was going downhill. I wasn't watching my speed and got the car up to 40 MPH by accident. I then passed an intersection and there was a cop just waiting by the stop sign trying to turn right. I knew he didn't get a read on me, but he knew I was going faster than 30, so I played it cool and drove normally after that (whenever I see a cop, my 1st reaction is check speed, so I quickly adjusted it back to 30 using engine braking). He followed me for the next 4 miles until I was about to turn off the main road. He then pulled me over as I was trying to get off the main road and get away from him. He couldn't catch me on speeding, so when I asked him why I got pulled over, he said it was for tints. The cop was actually really cool this time around and we talked for a bit before he took my license and went back to his car. He came back and said he would let me go. Thumbs up to that guy. ![]() Just some tips to get out of tickets a bit easier. 1. Shut your car off and put your keys on the dash. 2. All windows down (especially if you have tints). It makes it much easier for a cop to approach your car if they don't have to worry about tints obstructing their vision. The last thing you want is the cop pulling a gun on you. 3. Hands on steering wheel. 4. Don't be a douche, even if he or she is one. ^That's what got me out of that tint ticket when I got pulled over. The cop actually thanked me for putting my windows down and shutting my car off. Some people complain because they really weren't doing anything wrong =/. When I got pulled over for tints, I never tried getting out of it or thought the cop was a douche. I knew the risks of putting tints on my car and was/am willing to pay any tickets I get for it. I don't, however, like getting 5 point tickets because the idiot driver in front of me slammed on his brakes and almost caused an accident twice. I also don't like it when a cop blatantly lies to me thinking I would just take the ticket because I'm a young guy and might not know how to fight them. Totally unfair, IMO. Edit - Grammar and my writing reall sucks in this post. I'm done editing this shit. It's 4:15 AM and I'm tired. Deal with it ![]()

As an LEO night stops are scary cause you can get anything. Letting them see the inside of your car, knowing that you arn't going for any weapons or anything and just keeping your hands visible in general are good for getting them into a better mindset. When they get up to your car, hands should be on the steering wheel 10 and 2. Don't go for the DL or the registration until they tell you to, and you should probably tell them "my license is in xxx pocket, and my registration is xxx" Dude tells you nice and easy or something like that and you get it for him, he runs them.... good to go. Most cops are NOT assholes. They do however project the assholeish/hardass "game face" because most of the people they run up on are assholes themselves. It's often necessary to gain compliance from the less savory characters that they do run up against in their duties. A lot of the protesting "i didnt do this or that" or whatever is exactly the same as what the guilty/bad/knucklehead people do. If you disagree, dont try to fight it there....it isn;t going to get you anywhere. Fight it in court instead. If you make a big thing of arguing sometimes the cop makes a mental note to actually show up and stuff. Anyhow I've been stopped 6 times, and got 2 tickets. I probably deserved a lot worse the one time. I was falling asleep as I was driving and I was goin pretty fast in an attempt to get home before I completely conked out. It was like 2am and I think somebody else called me in as being drunk. I was so tired I fell asleep waiting for him to get the licence tag check done and walk up to my car. I think he tapped on the window a few times with his light before I woke up.
