So every time i deal with cops they seem like complete dicks. Dont get me wrong this doesnt mean i hate them, they got a tough job for sure. I've however noticed a trend with cops, those who are completely douchey seem to let you go, got away with speed before, tonight i got away with drifting(tried to nail me for drugs but jokes on him, never done them.) both cases they were complete dicks. The only ticket i have gotten was from the nice cop, and it was a nasty ticket lol.

So i'm curious whats ur experience with cops?

I was going 76 in a 55 zone in the middle of nowhere (no speed limit signs or other cars or sign of life in 30 minutes of driving). Cop pulls a u-turn, has a taser attached to his crotch area (wat?), and gives me a speeding ticket.

the police sucks corrupt motherfuckers. They always ask you for money in my country and they all sell out. They never get on time and they just bother common people instead of taking care of what they have to. When my mom got robbed the response was slow and nothing happened there was no real investigation and nothing was done to recover my mothers bank money. They are SCUM I hate them I feel more afraid of a cop than of a theif, thieves in my country are usually cowards and they just run away as soon as they can, the police on the other hand they can rob you right in front of your face and you cant say anything. Filthy PIGS.

Went for a jack in the box run at around 10 pm with the GF. DIdn't have my glasses so I didn't notice there were like 15 cop cars around us. They pull us over and start interrogating us (some teenager bought some bad weed and got beat up apparently?) They were really rude and wouldn't believe a thing we said until they got a call that they found the right person. That night I had my first frisk (BTW I live in an upper middle class neighborhood with a bunch of retarded rich "gangster" white kids). The funny part is that while driving away, a group of kids were sitting on the side of the road with the cops and all of a sudden one of them tries to run away by turning a corner and a cop car does some movie type shit and drifts through the intersection.

The rules are there for a reason. You can't blame the people doing their job well.
I think that if you can afford a car you can afford all the tickets too.
Most people don't even realize how little time they "win" by speeding.

i hate the campers the most.
i dont like the idea of them camping a street corner waiting for someone to screw up.
it feels like extortion and you cant do shit about it.

got a $200 dollar ticket for not stopping long enough at a stop sign. only 1 other car on the road, no pedestrians. the cop was hiding in the bushes...

got another ticket last week for not stopping for pedestrians that JUST entered the crosswalk.
they were 2 feet from the curb on the left side of a huge street. i was going 35 on the right side and already close to the intersection. did he want me to slam on the breaks for pedestrians that are 20ft away?
this cross walk had no stop sign or traffic lights. it was dark and they were wearing dark clothes as well.
2 very productive cops chatting away at a street corner...

was driving down from Oregon to San Francisco, driving a pretty nice rental car, 2011 ford mustang, in the middle of nowhere. an SUV coming from the other side flashes his lights. i got confused at what he was trying to signal and slowed down. turns out a cop was hiding on the side of the freeway behind a wall. what a trooper thanks for the warning!

i wasnt used to the huge open road of Oregon. one road was 55mph and it ended into a city with 35mph. since it was 2am in the morning i took my time slowing down. i wasnt accelerating at all and just let it cruise down. got pulled over for speeding (i was around 45mph by now), but the guy let me go ^_^
he was a nice guy and didnt wear the douchy sunglasses the Los Angeles cops always do.
talked directly to me face to face. i noticed he had quite a number of scars :x
i guess he figured i wasnt used to the rental car and im not from the area. Thanks mr. cop!

i notice that there are usually more campers towards the end of the month.

im not fat

I think that inevitably a lot of the police let the power go to their heads a little bit. They have authority over other human beings, and some people are going to enjoy flaunting that authority. So you have a lot of cops treating you like shit, like you're guilty before you've done anything, like you're a fucking child and they're the teacher.
I really have a problem with that attitude, it gets my back up and stings my pride. Got arrested once for being aggressive towards a police officer. Me and a few friends were hanging out at a lake once and were smoking on a bridge when out of nowhere two police cars come from either side and block the exits, 4 officers get out and immediately start being incredibly aggressive, shouting, even threatening. They asked if we were drinking alcohol, we said no, they yanked our drinks off us and put litmus paper or something in there to check if it was alcoholic, then chucked the drinks away. I told one of them to back off and he got really pissed and said he was gonna search me, told him to fuck off and get his hands off me, and I got cuffed and taken in the car for being aggressive towards a police officer.

The whole thing was bollocks. Apparently they were allowed to search me because there'd been a robbery at a local shop and simply by being nearby I was enough of a suspect to be searched.

everytime I've been pulled over the police man generally treats me like im the scum of the earth regardless of what I've done (not having a license plate on the front of my car (wasn't aware of the law in WA where I was before front plate wasn't required, once for no real reason (when I asked why he pulled me over said my exhaust wasn't stock even though it was) then he gave me a ticket because I "didn't have insurance" is what the ticket was, I got that dropped and the judge inferred the cop was an idiot for not writing as not having proof of insurance and a speeding tickets which I deserved xD). I just find it frustrating that they treat you like your a fucking thief or dog shit when you're completely respectful towards them. I also have cops try to pull some stupid things on me occasionally when I am driving on the highway pretty much just because I drive a sports car (1990 TT 300zx). For example Ive seen a police car get on the highway and im just cruising at 60 as i pass the area and they hang back for a good minute then speed up on me doing 80 or so without their lights on and then ride me unreasonably close hoping I would try to run or speed up just to pull me over. (I wont lie though it makes you pretty fucking nervous that you're getting pulled over for no reason). I told my GF about it when it happened and she talked to her dad who is a cop and he says alot of cops do stupid shit like that just hoping to get a punishable reaction from people which I think is pretty retarded >.>

if you expect any special treatment from an officer just because you are nice to them, you might want to consider that their experience is, as i can only imagine, often not so pleasant when confronting offenders. it is the smartest way to deal with that line of work to just always pretend to be the hardass type - if you complain about this just because you cannot stand the situation, the problem is really on your side, and not the fault of the officer for "not being nice". as you wrote yourself, they didnt even give you a ticket, that goes to show you that they are not doing this for fun or because they prefer it to actually being nice to people. being a responsible policeman is hard work, believe it or not, and not everyone is corrupt or evil everywhere.

as far as my own experience goes, i never had much trouble with the law - and every single encounter i had resulted in parting ways without any ill feelings or punishments.

Not that this is the case in this thread, but I find it hilarious that people tend to hate the police when they are breaking the law.

But anyway, if you get pulled over under suspicion for drunk driving, actually agreeing to a sobriety test (the walking a straight line shit), that's actually the sign that you are drunk, the rest is just entertainment for the officer to see how drunk you are. You should refuse these and ask for a breathalizer if you aren't drunk or haven't been drinking.

Also you never actually have to talk to the police at any point without legal council, no matter what they say.

The one and only ticket I've ever gotten was on my roadtrip. I was driving from Spokane, WA to Chicago by myself. I was in bumfuck Montana. And no, I had no stupid illusion that you can drive as fast as you want, I did my fucking research :D. I'm going 85 mph in a 70mph zone. Google Maps Street View of where I got pulled over approximately. I see this car coming toward me, but honestly I didn't even think it was a cop. I'm rolling down this hill and then about a quarter up the next one when I realize it's a cop. Too late though, as I pass her she lights up. The ticket was cheap actually: $40, but still. I consider myself a very safe driver. It wasn't raining, there weren't any visible livestock or anything for miles and miles and miles. It was a bunch of nothing and I got a ticket for going too fast through it lol. Then again, I bet a lot of idiots think Montana still has little to no speed limit, so she probably gets a lot of yahoos going 100+. Still, I wish she'd used a little discretion in my case considering it was an 1800 mile leg of the roadtrip. Oh well .

This reminds me of something that happened to my dad in the 60's in Texas. He and his girlfriend were going out to some small town in Texas from Houston (go figure) and their car broke down. It was like 2AM. So, my dad is trying to wave someone down to go into town (I can't remember exactly what was wrong with the car.) Anyway, they're in this tiny car when a Texas state trooper pulls up. He asks them what's wrong and my dad tells him and asks if he could give them a ride into the next town. He says, "Do I look like a taxi to you?" Then my dad is just floored and shares his incredulity and receives something like this back: "Watch your tone boy." Then he drove off lol. It was 3 or 4 hours later when some lady happened upon them and helped them out.

Meh I got pulled over for doing 96 km in a 60 zone (was trying to beat a red light) and the cop was nice enough. He was like, I could fine you for 196 dollars but I'll lower it down to 136. Just doin' his job I guess.

I deserved the ticket 100% so I wasn't upset.

Oh it also just turned into a 60 zone, just got off the highway.

I think cops are trained to be condescending. This gives them information. Naturally, making them look like dicks, but I don't think they are on the streets to make friends

I just have a tendency to get pulled over/ ticketed for going 5 mph over the speed limit (which, in New Jersey, is considered "slow"), whereas the people weaving in and out of traffic without using their blinkers do so without remorse.

I don't think I've ever gotten out of a real ticket. I wonder if I were a hot girl who could fake cry, rather than being a regular guy, that would help. I have plenty of female friends who have told me that they have no shame getting out of tickets by driving however they want and then acting the part of a damsel in distress.

The only time I ever "kind of" got out of a ticket was when I was returning from a concert with my girlfriend. It was late and a cop started following us. I asked her what the speed limit was (I was close to her house, and I was definitely not going to get pulled over for speeding this time). She said 35, we passed a speed limit sign for 35, and I went 30 all the way back to her house. About 500 feet from her house, the cop still pulls me over and asks if I knew how fast I was going. I calmly and respectfully respond with "Yes sir; 30 mph" and my knowledge of the speed limit in that area being 35 mph. He looked surprised; I guess he just assumed he could nail me for speeding.

He ended up giving me a ticket because I had a licence plate bracket (the things that all car dealerships and colleges give out for basically free) that was "obstructing vision of my license plate". I asked him what he was talking about, since I knew that the tiny words "Rutgers University" did not in any way block vision of my license plate. Turns out that it got close to the words "Garden State", which was located around my actual license plate, but was a total bullshit charge.

I once got a ticket for speeding ~93 in a 75mph zone. Cop was a serious d-bag, threatened to arrest me, and then not only gave me a speeding ticket but also TWO tickets for having tinted windows. Clearly bogus, especially since the car I was driving was rented. Turned out okay, since the rental company was able to fight the charges for me.

So this one time I'm running several city blocks (in Kalamazoo Michigan) to make the bus before it leaves the station. I'm on foot and it would take about 90 minutes to hike the 5 additional miles home.

I stop at a one-way street. Cars are coming and the walk sign isn't lit. I see it go white. I look left, right, left, forward, run across the street!

About halfway across I catch a car making a quick right turn out of my peripherals. Realizing what was coming, I slow down just in time to get hit. It managed to avoid most my body when I stuck out my hands and bounced off the door. Too bad my legs were in front on me. The car's tire caught the side of my foot which rotated me 180 degrees as it ran me over. Immediately after I get up, hop to the sidewalk, and sit by a tree while my foot swells to twice its size and a witness at the neighboring car dealership calls the police.

Everything at that point went well. I gave my report, the driver gave his, I get a nice ambulance ride to the hospital.

I was in the emergency room for 20 minutes before someone came to see me. It was the first officer on the scene. After asking how I felt he gives me a ticket! Evidently, "crossing against the pedestrian don't walk sign" is a civil infraction (read: I was in the crosswalk so this was NOT jaywalking). Even though I had checked the sign it wasn't the last thing I checked and without the proof he needed to ticket me.

Well, this sucks. On the other hand, this officer was rather awesome about it. He told me he was only giving it because he had to and I should fight it. So I did. I had to admit guilt to the infraction, but I got the fine removed thanks to my hospital bills. The cop even showed up to speak on my behalf! A great experience overall!

Note 1: My foot was actually fine. It hurt for about a month, but nothing broken. Apparently feet are very resilient. The doctor said an elephant could step on it without breaking anything.

Note 2: This was deemed an auto accident and as such went on my driving record. Ironic since I was one foot...

Note 3: Michigan has 'no fault insurance', so I had to pay my hospital bills even though "pedestrians [almost] always have the right of way". And, since the "accident" was deemed my fault by the police the driver got away with nothing more than a "don't do it again".

Did you ever calculate for the fact that time moves slower since youre speed is higher? Didnt think so...

On a more serious note. Ive never had ANY problems with the police. Theyre generally vey nice unless youre drunk and/or try to argue with them!

Most people can't afford a car. That's why they take out a loan to pay for it. So no, that doesn't mean you can afford the tickets. I know I sure can't. Give me a $400 ticket and I'd be unable to pay rent.

Yeah ... that's not how it works. You only cut your journey time in half if you double your average speed. Which is pretty damn hard. So HwangjaeTerran is right, usually your actual time gain is ridiculously low for speeding.

Around here where there is no speed limit on large parts on the Autobahn I go 200-250 whenever I can. On good days that gives me an average speed of say 135, versus about 110 I would have if I would stick to the recommended speed of 130 over longer journeys. The highest I managed to get so far was 149 average, and that was in the middle of the night going 250 as long as possible on a 300km journey.

It feels like the police in America have been reduced to an institution that tries as hard as it can to take money from the people. In between hiding and waiting to issue speeding tickets and arresting people for the merest of offenses (marijuana possession...) the police have lost a lot of their legitimacy in the country, especially among the youth. I myself have zero respect for police officers, the ones i've known personally (two of my friends out of high school) have both turned out to be power tripping dicks that just love to pick on people because they've got a badge. While that anecdotal evidence doesn't exactly prove anything, it seems like many people feel the same way about the police as me.

So much of this thread is whining of the variety "I did (insert illegal action) and a cop had the nerve to be rude to me."

You have to put yourself in the shoes of a police officer approaching a stopped vehicle. He has no idea who you are and he is always walking into an entirely unknown situation. You could be some kid who screwed up or you could be some crack-dealer with a gun. It all looks eerily the same until the situation is resolved. For every decent person that the police officer has dealt with in the course of his day, he has dealt with just as many if not more belligerent, insulting, inconsiderate dicks. Forgive him for framing his encounter with you based on his most common experiences.

They're just people doing a job. Outside of the job, they're average, decent people for the most part. You want cops to give you the benefit of the doubt without any desire to return the favor.

I realise that mate and you are right.

Maybe I should have been clearer though. Maintaining a speed of 100mph from point A to B (distance X), cuts the journey time for that distance in half (when the speed limit is 50 from A-B is 50). Clearly in the real world, with idiots pulling out in front of you, braking when there's no need, random patches of heavier traffic etc etc, maintaining an average speed of double the speed limit is nigh on impossible, so the gains from speeding would be reduced.

I have never been ill treated by a cop ever. the only times I have ever encountered cops are when I was doing something wrong, and ultimately, they have all treated me very nicely.

I understand why some cops might be dicks, so many people are dicks to them when they try and reinforce laws that are used to protect the public.

I have been arrested before. so for brief moments in time, I have hated cops. but really after reflection the hate should have been aimed towards other areas, like towards my own decisions.

Yeah ... that's not how it works.

Unless you take into account the part you drive in the city, stopping at various red lights, driving twice as fast means getting there in half the time.
Of course it also increases the average speed. that's kind of a no-brainer.

Shit, you just reminded me I have a speeding ticket to pay by next week. So thanks I suppose but,ya I fear the nice cop way more than the mean one. It seems the assholey ones feel bad for being dicks or are just more down to earth and seem to let you off more. The nice ones always smile and "hows it going" you and all that BS so they can shove a nice shiny smile down your throat with the $250 ticket they just handed you.
Why?

I grew up in Jersey and went to school in rural Pennsylvania, so my experiences with cops have been polarizing. I never really got into trouble in NJ - one legitimate speeding ticket, which I took without complaint in a rich community for going 15 over. Had a family friend offer to fight it in court, judge let it go.

PA, however, has been a carnival of dicks when it comes to cops. There have been four total incidents in three years, so I'll go chronologically.

+ Show Spoiler +
I was coming back from NJ on Thanksgiving night. On the highway near my college, there's a point where you have to make a relatively sharp left turn and the speed limit inconspicuously drops to 35 from 65. It continues in curvy fashion until you hit a three-way intersection, where you'd make a left onto the mountain road that lead to my campus and the apartments near it. It was 4 AM or so, and the drive was four hours deep with about twenty minutes to go when I got to this point. I was cruise-controlling at 65 on the highway, and when I hit the initial turn, I just turned it off and slowed up until I hit the traffic light. Lights go on behind my car and scare the bejeezus out of me - I make the left and pull over only for an unmarked car and two cruisers to surround me, lights, sirens, the whole deal. A little surprised, I fished out my license and registration and just lay my hands on top of the steering wheel. I remember noting that the officer walking up to my window appeared to be the douchiest douche to walk the earth, and he was definitely notably pissed off.

He collects my license and registration, flashlight right in my eyes (worst part, imo - I decided while brooding over this encounter I would simply stop looking cops in the face), etc, takes very little time checking me out in his car, only to come back and announce that I was underage (like I didn't know) and that I was driving like I was drunk (orly?). Luckily, my parents have always had a stiff rule against me drinking wine over holiday dinners.

I emerge from my car, and captain male-pattern-balding only gets more angry as I pass the field sobriety test, despite being chubby and from New Jersey, in front of he and the other four cops. His Saiyan rage hits a zenith once I blow a 0.000000000000000000000000000000 with the breathalyzer - he angrily jots down a speeding ticket, citing the detection method as 'pacing', meaning he supposedly followed me at a set speed above the limit for a certain amount of time, and actually scribbled out the number he had chosen to lie with twice. It was about 5 AM at this point, and I was pissed, so I clicked my tongue upon receiving said ticket, following that up with a 'Happy Thanksgiving, I guess.' His response was to write another ticket for reckless driving, citing that I was going beyond 20 over the speed limit (different than the speeding ticket, btw), and then offered to make them both 'go away' if I vice'd on the people who sold weed in my apartment complex. I told him truthfully I wasn't involved with that shit, but he just shrugged and uttered a foreboding 'Your loss.' When I went to court to contest the ticket, the officer didn't even show - both got dismissed. My assumption in hindsight is they were fishing for holiday drunks and got no one all night, leaving my juicy ass was one of their last chances, hence the three-car-circus.

+ Show Spoiler +
Encounter-in-PA number two is much more brief. I was traveling up that mountain road I mentioned before, just in a pissy mood in the middle of the night with no one around, so I was driving carelessly with the music on blast. About halfway up the road, there's a five-way intersection, and if you're heading up from the highway, you don't have a stop sign. Given the generally abandoned nature of the road, I just gunned it before this intersection. I was at about 70 before going through, and right after the intersection is a sharp-ass turn, so I moved onto the opposite side of the road to allow my car the proper room to make the corner. I wasn't the only person in audience of my brazen maneuvering, however - about two miles up the road, a cop finally catches up to me and pulls me over. He was actually -really- kind, and I guess I looked really dejected, because as soon as he confirmed I wasn't inebriated, he went on to caution me with "Did you have a bad night, kid? You really shouldn't drive like that. You go off the road, no one'll notice you're in trouble up here," etc. He wound up letting me off with a warning and good wishes, though he didn't stop following me until I pulled into my apartment complex, heh.

+ Show Spoiler +
Third encounter in PA is notable because it was some of the most flagrant bullshit that's ever been thrown my way ever about anything and every girlfriend I've ever had has been a cheating whore so I think my bullshit credentials are way in order. After a long night of autumn gaming, my friend Ed (who is also a nerdballer) and I decided some fresh air was in order. We hopped in my 1995 Benz pimptransport and went for a drive around this lake near our college - the lake community is a pretty wealthy one for the most part, so appreciating the homes of the rich and the view of the lake was a nice retreat from Street Fighter's aggravating ladder. Ed, ever vigilant, is the first to notice an unmarked champagne-colored Grand Marquis start up and follow us as we passed it by just outside a harbor. "That's either a cop, or someone's going to kill us," we resolved, so I hit the cruise control at 30, five below the limit, and kept an eye in the rearview. After about four miles of this shit, we decided it was creepy enough and to test our luck. We pulled off the road that circled closest the lake and retreated into the parking lot of a friend's apartment.

After a minute, we went back out, once again enjoying the view and the homes of the vastly money-blessed. Before long, same car pulled up behind us, and this was either going to be a horror movie or an arrest. Same deal, cruise control at 30. This time, given a few more miles, the lights come up and over we're pulled. Knowing I wasn't speeding, and keeping to my policy of not looking into flashlights head-on, I calmly handed over my credentials with a 'here you are' when asked. Curious of where this was going as the cop returned, we told him we were just going for a ride around the lake and enjoying the weather when asked. Although he seemed displeased, a thorough once-over from outside left him no probable cause for a search, so he left us with a warning to 'be less suspicious'. He just jelly of the ballermobile, obv~!

+ Show Spoiler +

The last story is going to be told in short order because I'm running out of the literary sauce right now, but it's a fun encounter nonetheless. This one starts at Wal-Mart and ends with myself, Ed and our partner in crime Jon almost going to jail. Like I said, the chain of events starts at Wal-Mart, and like many decisions made at Wal-Mart, the choice to buy a paintball gun for later shenanigans was a bad one. Even worse than that, not putting in the the trunk. Worst of all was Ed shooting another car at a four-way traffic light from my back seat. What resulted was a brief piece of evidence toward my car being totally sweet but totally incapable of turning me into Jason Bourne. The victim of Ed's shooting spree held the trump card, however - pacing us for a short while, they called the cops and had them intercept us after giving them my license plate. This time, the three-car-pin was totally applicable. Officer Smith, let's call him, hopped to our window and demanded to be told WHERE THE GUNS WERE so we TOLD HIM and then we got HAAAAAAAAAND CUFFFFFFED. For the record, know that sitting on a curb while handcuffed is a herculean effort if you're tubby.

We got sat down and Jon and I sold out Ed immediately for being a fat, dumb bastard. My car got towed and we got tossed inside separate cruisers on the way to the station, where we sat, cuffed to the bench, while Officer Smith and his comrades worked out what to charge us with. Ed got called in to be interrogated first, at which point he rapidly confessed and gave a written statement. What followed was the most bizarre interview-of-sorts I was ever a part of, wherein Jon, Ed myself sought to convince this person who we were all convinced held the future of our college education in his hands that this evening was simply a lapse of judgment and our retardation was only temporary. As he learned about us all being engineering majors, myself being a chairperson of the student council, Ed (somehow) being engaged, we worked Officer Smith into rightly believing that this stupidity would blow over. Thankfully, we only got disorderly conduct citations, but he made it quite clear that the punishment could have been far more severe. Far more bizarre was the post-interview wait that ensued as I called a girl I drank with occasionally at another local college and she picked us up, granting us idiots a ride home.

This came after a month of general shenanigans - clubbing mailboxes with baseball bats, experimenting with pyrotechnics and other hillbilly dumb shit and being arrested quite promptly brought an end to any further silliness. Needless to say, Ed took care of the towing bill.

edit: and just because I want to have an opinion, there's little point to speeding in the city or suburbs, but the overall payoff for speeding 10-20 over on highways can be flippin' sweet.

The only ticket i have gotten was from the nice cop, and it was a nasty ticket lol.

So i'm curious whats ur experience with cops?

you can get pulled over for drifting? :O how did this happen?

"Careless driving" (or changing lanes without a blinker).

$500 dollar ticket minimum here in Alberta for drifting. It gets put under the "Stunting" category.

I feel like this is getting nowhere, but no, you only half your travel time by doubling your average speed. If you are arguing that average speed is what the guy meant by saying "I go 100 in a 50" then we are saying the same thing.

If your job involved dealing with people who make stupid fucking decisions all day, you'd be grouchy, too. When someone goes bombing down a 20mph residential school district, at 50mph, the absolute LAST thing you want to show that person is an ounce of respect. Obviously the jackass doesn't give two shits about the rules of the road, or the safety of other human beings.

Keep in mind that police officers rarely deal with the better part of society. They're always going around solving the problems of the dregs, and then they have to file a bunch of paperwork over it. Do that day-in and day-out and see how you feel about some punk-ass kid weaving around the highway without using his indicators.

I hope you weren't drifting on a major/actual road. I usually just drift in a relatively empty parking lot if im meeting up with friends, i'll drift into my spot - or i drift for the two turns before I get to my house in my neighborhood. It's tons of fun when it's not dangerous and there's enough snow on the ground :D

Yeah its was super fun when it snowed like 2 weeks ago. I drifted on my last turn before pulling into the driveway (no moving cars, obv) and one of my neighbours saw it xD

I wish I knew a place that taught drifting/racing. Anyone know one in Ontario?

1st time i get pulled over i was riding a bicycle. They stopped me and asked me why am i not waring reflex jacket and have no helm. I was like O.o, after 20min chat they let me go and gave me jacket + some other stuffs, pretty funny cops.

2nd time, my best friend was going to sail some weed and was really nervous when he saw cops he started to run, so i followed him. god we were lucky that we escaped

3rd time, i was heading back home from party, it was rainy night and they asked me to take of my shoes. I was like rly ? And they were like Yea mutherfucker really ! So i took em off after 5 min checking my ID and stuffs they told me that im looking suspiciously and they know that i have drugs with me but they dont know where so they called a dog...

you have to wear a reflective jacket to bike wth? i know helmets in california are only required for people under 18 because once you're old enough to vote you're old enough to splatter your brain across a pavement just to avoid helmet hair. Although i would wear a reflective jacket my uncle got clipped by some guy while in the bike lane. Because the guy was not a jackass and pulled over my uncle only asked that he cover the medical bill and damage to the bike.

anywho, people who bitch about all cops being assholes are almost always either uppity jerkoffs in all facets of life, or they're an idiot who got busted doing something dumb and doesn't wanna man up and accept responsibility.

unless you've done something so egregiously stupid, getting out of a ticket or getting a lesser offense is as simple as checking your ego before your open your mouth and just being respectful

Was in a parking lot, the only time i really ever drift is in a parking lot, im very aware how stupid people can be on the road and never risk an accident that way. The fine he wanted to give me was stunting which someone mentioned earlier but said it was 420, maybe different in calgary? I do agree that if you break the law you deserve it, my one ticket i got was about 700 dollars going about 70 over the speed limit and i agree i deserved it. Thought he was going to jail me so i guess he's nice lol.

Last night however i didnt feel it was just, the stunting charge is usually quite a bullshit charge that is last resort for cops, had a friend of mine get a stunting charge because she slipped on ice lol..

I just wanted to get a feel what other people thought, ofcourse i can pay the charges i save a lot of my income so i wanst to worried.

Rules are to be enforced. But once time I passed a cop ( by about 2-3 mph) and we stopped by a red light. When I turned, he followed me and said that I was aboive the speed limit and that he was the limit and ticketed me. Pretty sure he is 1. a douchebag/asshole 2. didnt like my 1 mile above the limit.

I haven't had any really negative experiences with cops. The most memorable incident was when my buddy and I were out at a bush party on a bit of farm land in BC (not that far from town, small town tho), and we were drunk and walking home. A cop pulled up next to us and asked how the party was going, and I noted that it was pretty chill and most people were getting ready to go home. He asked us how far we were going to walk, and then offered us a ride back. Just dropped us off at the street corner near my friends house at 2am and wished us a good night.

I had this conservation with friends before and the consensus is that the cops are MUCH nicer to the girls, often letting them off with just warnings. If they get pulled over, they turn on the charm, act innocent and say "I didn't know I was doing that and it will never happen again".

Personally, I've never been pulled over, so I don't know what it's like.

as a law abiding citizen that knows how to be polite and respectful to people, i've never had an issue with the police

tips to not piss the police off:
abide by the laws
don't be a douche
don't hang out with people that are douches
don't hang out with people that don't abide by the law
tell the truth

Most of the time people that bitch about cops being assholes are people that are assholes themself. You don't have to be a dog to smell "douchebag" when you first talk to somebody. If you get pulled over and wreak of jackass, the cop is going to be a jackass too. The problem? You broke a law and it's his job to write you up.

Simple solution: Stop breaking the law. I guarantee you when someone is trying to break into your house and you call the cops, you'll be very happy to see them.

Meh, I honestly think that speeding laws should have some major revisions. Starting with not having these retarded slow speed limits on roads where you can safely drive 20 over with little risk of accident. I drive on such a road nearly everyday. Secondly, "conditions" should always be taken into account. A relatively deserted highway should mean that you can drive faster, especially at 4 a.m. If it's heavily raining, you should probably be driving a little below the speed limit.

Cops aren't the problem, just the laws, I think. We're way too focused on these exact speeds that we must drive at, when really, the safest speed to drive at really depends on the conditions of the road. And often times, driving at exactly the speed limit is less safe than driving over. It will typically get people frustrated with you and have them tailing your bumper, not a fun experience.

In my experience, going with the flow of traffic = 100x safer than going the "speed limit." In any case, I'm glad I have a crappy car so cops mostly ignore me.
Be versatile, know when to retreat, and carry a big gun.

Can it possibly hurt you to be polite/nice to any officer that pulls you over?

Getting visibly angry is stupid - show a little control.

Let's see...

First ever ticket:

I was driving my sister home from her ortho appointment and the car in front of me was a total douche. He slammed on the brakes once so I had to do the same to avoid hitting him. I slowly backed away from his car so I could get a little more breathing room if he did the same and he did it, but this time with more force. I had to slam on the brakes again to avoid hitting him. Next thing I know, the cop behind me is flashing his damn lights and pulling me over. It was a 5 pt tailgating ticket (12 pts gets your license suspended) and I plead guilty and got it down to a 2 pt ticket + $450 in court. On top of that, the guy gave me a tint ticket for $45 even though he didn't see my front tints.

The worst part about this ticket was the guy didn't even let me explain what happened. He didn't want to talk at all. He just walked up to my car, said "License and registration" and walked away. That's it. No questions as to what happened or why I had to stop so quickly. Awesome...

2nd time getting pulled over:

I'm on my way home from school. The speed limit is 55 mph and I set my cruise control @ 60 mph. Since BMWs are have inaccurate speedometers, I knew I was well under 60. I was going 57 mph, to be exact, according to my GPS. I keep driving and just relax w/ my windows down listening to DJ Okawari. Out of nowhere, some cop comes from behind me with his lights flashing. The entire time I'm thinking to myself, "wth did I do?" I wasn't doing anything wrong. I was in the right lane, going 57 in a 55. If I seriously got pulled over for 2 mph, I would flip.

I wait for the officer to approach my car and asked him what was going on. He tells me he was pacing me going at 68 MPH (LOL). I argued with him for a good 5 minutes about how that's impossible since I had my cruise control set at 60 and then he tried giving me a ticket for going 60 in a 55. I continued talking to the douche for another 10 minutes and then he took my license/registration back to his car. He came back and said that since my record was clean and that I told the truth about my past offenses (tailgating/tint), he would let me go. I don't know whether to consider myself lucky for getting off or what. He was a douchebag though.

3rd time:

I was in a 30 MPH area and I was going downhill. I wasn't watching my speed and got the car up to 40 MPH by accident. I then passed an intersection and there was a cop just waiting by the stop sign trying to turn right. I knew he didn't get a read on me, but he knew I was going faster than 30, so I played it cool and drove normally after that (whenever I see a cop, my 1st reaction is check speed, so I quickly adjusted it back to 30 using engine braking). He followed me for the next 4 miles until I was about to turn off the main road. He then pulled me over as I was trying to get off the main road and get away from him. He couldn't catch me on speeding, so when I asked him why I got pulled over, he said it was for tints. The cop was actually really cool this time around and we talked for a bit before he took my license and went back to his car. He came back and said he would let me go. Thumbs up to that guy.

Just some tips to get out of tickets a bit easier.

1. Shut your car off and put your keys on the dash.
2. All windows down (especially if you have tints). It makes it much easier for a cop to approach your car if they don't have to worry about tints obstructing their vision. The last thing you want is the cop pulling a gun on you.
3. Hands on steering wheel.
4. Don't be a douche, even if he or she is one.

^That's what got me out of that tint ticket when I got pulled over. The cop actually thanked me for putting my windows down and shutting my car off.

I never understood why people get mad at a cop for doing his job and busting you for doing something dumb. I tend to get more pissed at myself when I get pulled over for speeding or something dumb, because it means I was being too dumb to keep an eye out for cops.

Some people complain because they really weren't doing anything wrong =/. When I got pulled over for tints, I never tried getting out of it or thought the cop was a douche. I knew the risks of putting tints on my car and was/am willing to pay any tickets I get for it. I don't, however, like getting 5 point tickets because the idiot driver in front of me slammed on his brakes and almost caused an accident twice. I also don't like it when a cop blatantly lies to me thinking I would just take the ticket because I'm a young guy and might not know how to fight them. Totally unfair, IMO.

Edit - Grammar and my writing reall sucks in this post. I'm done editing this shit. It's 4:15 AM and I'm tired. Deal with it .

At night it is a good thing to turn on the dome light inside your car. Keep your right hand up by the light, and your left up high where the window meets the frame.

As an LEO night stops are scary cause you can get anything. Letting them see the inside of your car, knowing that you arn't going for any weapons or anything and just keeping your hands visible in general are good for getting them into a better mindset. When they get up to your car, hands should be on the steering wheel 10 and 2. Don't go for the DL or the registration until they tell you to, and you should probably tell them "my license is in xxx pocket, and my registration is xxx" Dude tells you nice and easy or something like that and you get it for him, he runs them.... good to go. Most cops are NOT assholes. They do however project the assholeish/hardass "game face" because most of the people they run up on are assholes themselves. It's often necessary to gain compliance from the less savory characters that they do run up against in their duties.

A lot of the protesting "i didnt do this or that" or whatever is exactly the same as what the guilty/bad/knucklehead people do. If you disagree, dont try to fight it there....it isn;t going to get you anywhere. Fight it in court instead. If you make a big thing of arguing sometimes the cop makes a mental note to actually show up and stuff.

Anyhow I've been stopped 6 times, and got 2 tickets. I probably deserved a lot worse the one time. I was falling asleep as I was driving and I was goin pretty fast in an attempt to get home before I completely conked out. It was like 2am and I think somebody else called me in as being drunk. I was so tired I fell asleep waiting for him to get the licence tag check done and walk up to my car. I think he tapped on the window a few times with his light before I woke up.
