I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power magazine. I was into Super Mario 64, Super Mario Kart 64, and Banjo Kazooie type of games though back then. I didn't play Starcraft 64, but I did play the crap out of STARfox 64. lolz

Looking back I can't believe that it didn't dawn on me to look at my friends screen when we played. Ahh the days of innocence.
Understand.

Just played this a month ago against my buddy who can't beat me in SC2 so he challenged me in SC64.

Let's just say micro doesn't exist, so Zealot rushes are ridiculously powerful xD

I too hired it with a friend. It was pretty Brutal compared to the PC version so while we played one of us would always link it back to the PC version and go, ohhh yeah this is so much worse

I think we ended up playing some LAN SC on PC after, hahaha, good times. Nice thread!
Just a simple guy, going wherever this journey takes me.

I loved this game, you could never play on any map larger than 64x64 or it fastest speed would feel like normal. Also auto mining and 150 mineral spawning pools was tight too. I remember trying to go back and muta micro on it, and thinking it was really easy lol
Sometimes its not intentional, sometimes you just botch it.

I heard about this, though I usually spent my childhood playing Command and Conquer, Red Alert, and Warcraft 2 on the Playstation. IMO, console RTS controls were extremely archaic back then.

Also, how was the split screen multiplayer? It seems that screenlooking completely negates proper scouting.

I played it after already having been pretty experienced in the PC version. I just loved SC so much, I wanted any game about SC. The computer was a difficult thing to get on with my family using it too, so the N64 version let me play it more.

What I loved most about it was split screen. I thought it was just the coolest thing I could play SC with a friend next to me!

Also, the campaign forced me to not cheat so it was the first time I actually went through the campaign cheat-free.

I still play it sometimes now too. Triumvirate! Great fun!

Me and my brother used to play eachother all the time but we would agree not to attack eachother untill we were both 200 200 then we would battle it out haha. Protoss always won.

Ah, fun times. It feels almost embarassing that I liked the N64 version, with all its awkward controls, at the time :-). Not having a attack button or move button, only something inbetween, was so rediculous in retrospect lol. You'd have to spam the attackmove button thingy like 50 times to sucessfully disengage from a battle.

Still complaints aside my friend and I loved kicking the computer's ass on coop. We only played island maps because the computer would always crush us with its first push otherwise.

To be fair, if you're playing on the N64 against other players, enjoying it, you probably aren't good enough to know what to look for anyways.

I had that game. It was also my only gateway to the Starcraft world. I had no PC version until SC2, but I still had a lot of fun playing against the computer on Lost Temple or something like that. Heheh

I remember playing Red Alert for the ps1. Took me roughly half an hour to target and command my army.

It wasn't the developers fault , they did the best they could.
SC on N64 was a terrible idea to begin with.

There was a N64 emulator for the PSP and I thought it would've been cool to play sc on the PSP even though it wouldn't work well at all haha, but never got it to work

Heh, my friend got this for me as a kinda-joke present this past Christmas. It's not nearly as terrible as people make it out to be. It's playable, which is more than can be said for most PC -> Console ports. Obviously it's not going to play anywhere near as well as on PC, but they did the best they could with an N64 controller.

On a another note, the PlayStation Diablo port was actually really good.

I discovered Starcraft through the N64 as well. Once I realized it was a computer game and I bought the computer version I couldn't play it on the N64 anymore because the fastest setting on the N64 is like playing normal on the computer.

However, you could have 18 units in a group on the N64 instead of just 12! I think I've lost the cartridge though which makes me kind of sad.
