Goseiger Ended today. And with that, Super Sentai is now 35 years old in Japan now. With that begins the Anniversary series that takes place every 5 years. This year's will be a Pirate-Theme Series called Gokaiger. Apparently the gimmick of the series is that, like Kamen Rider Decade, the Gokaiger will be able to take on (or "Pirate" lol) the powers of previous Super Sentai teams. Seems pretty cool to me, since I really liked Kamen Rider Decade.
I'm excited for this series. The suit designs look nice, the cast seem to already be bonding into a good team from the looks of their ameblo posts, and I am looking forward to seeing what cameos will turn up.
I personally enjoyed Decade, but the lack of cameos in the first half of the series, and the slightly dodgy quality in terms of the consistency of the 'replacement' actors abilities and the plots themselves did make the series suffer a little imo. Are you watching OOOs? I've been enjoying it myself, and it's lovely to see Ryosuke Miura from Gran Sazer X doing tokusatsu again.
I've been watching OOOs and, for the most part, have been liking it. The latest episode (21) was kind of boring though. And the 22 doesn't look like it'll be that interesting either, meaning we'll probably have to hold out until the ShaUTa form for something exciting to happen.
I've always preferred Kamen Rider over Super Sentai. Nevertheless, the storyline of Decade was atrocious and there wasn't much of Chalice, which was the entire reason why I was excited. W was amazing and the best series since Blade. W proved that they can still come up with quality riders, while following their motifs and themes.

They should do a series about Skull to give more back story to W.
I'm the same as Kamille in terms of preferences. Although I've been watching sentai since Go Onger because a lot of my tenimyu biases (other actors I know from elsewhere.) use sentai as a career move from theatre work, so it's interesting to me in that respect.
W was a great series imo. I loved the characters, the mystery/detective plot lines and the way it presented us with not only a lead rider (Kiriyama Renn) who surpassed a lot of peoples' expectations in terms of his acting, but also a new talent (Masaki Suda.) It should be fun to see more of Skull during the up-coming movie.
I was skeptical about the detective theme and the "two riders as one" motif, but they only used the can't transform without you out of anger or broken friendship once. Philip was definitely one of the bright spots in the show. I loved his character and what I want to call his versatility, especially in episode 24, if anyone remembers that one.
I thoroughly enjoyed Decade, despite its flaws. It wasn't meant to have a super-cohesive overarching story, but it did have enjoyable characters and the plots from world to world were really fun.
I got kind of bored of Double early on and never really made it past the Slot Machine Doppant thingy. That's my problem with Kamen Rider series, many are way too slow early on and I just never get into it. The only other series I completed besides Decade is Agito (which is AWESOME). I got about halfway into Kabuto until I realized the writing was horrible and that I hated Tendou. Every other series I dropped after like the 1st-2nd episode. OOO has managed to keep my attention, though 21 was an absolute bore.
Sentai is also rather slow in the beginning, but I at least have the new mechs to look foward too. Not the case with Goseiger though, I hated the mech designs and the generally overly kiddy feel, and dropped it really fast. Can't wait for Gokaiger though.

I can agree about the slow starts as most Japanese shows starts slowly. But to me though, Tendou is what's needed as a main character. He's not a pussy ass good guy like most main characters are and that's a change to things.

He's also completely unlikable, unrelatable, doesn't develop at all, and every other Rider's character development short of Gattack/Kagami suffers due to story's need to constantly glorify him. His beliefs nor his abilities are challenged at all throughout most of the series and always acts arrogant and doesn't respect anyone. i.e. he's a goddamn Marty Stu.
Yes, I "get" that that was the point of his character, but the point of characters like that is that they're supposed to eventually develop and become more likable or relatable, ESPECIALLY when they're MAIN CHARACTER. It makes you emotionally invested in the character and root for the character to win. Tendou didn't do any of that. Kagami, who was MUCH stronger as a character, was pretty much the only reason I kept watching Kabuto as long as I did.
Sorry to say this to the Decade haters, but for all the story flaws of the series, Tsukasa is an example of how you do a douchebag Rider "right". Sure he can act superior and arrogant to everyone else, but you can make it work if you show that he still has a human side that, you know, cares about and respects other people. It makes him likable and relatable. Not to mention Tsukasa had much more of a right to act that way. Being, you know, probably the most powerful/broken Kamen Rider in existence and, essentially, the "leader" of the Heisei Riders.
Simply put, I don't like Tendou, and I can't see how anyone who appreciates the concept of a good character can. Not to say that my dislike of Tendou is blind, though. I liked the version of Tendou in God Speed Love MUCH better since he was a much better person in that Alternate Timeline.
I've still managed to complete all Super Sentai starting from Hurricanger. Except the tail end of Shinkenger, which is when it got REALLY boring and uneventful until + Show Spoiler +
Akumaro was defeated and the reveal of the Female Shinkenred
. And Goseiger, which was pretty much boring from the get-go.
The slow start is almost always present in Japanese shows. In terms of character development, I'd had to give it to Blade. It was probably one of the slower series too. It didn't pick up till about 10 episodes in, but once it did, you couldn't stop. W is probably the only one to even come close to it in my opinion. In terms of the movies, all the alternate time line ones were God awful. I watched both the Blade and Faiz movie and I couldn't take it anymore. I'm glad they decided to continue with the normal storyline in later movies.

I understand your rant about Kabuto but since you said that you've only finished halfway then you didn't see the character development of Tendou in the last half. Remember that Decade was almost halve the episode of Kabuto so Tsukasa got a faster development but saying that Tendou didn't have any means you haven't fully seen the whole series. + Show Spoiler +
I really don't see much character development in Kagami even though he's my favorite character on the show(I like goody good guys :D that's why I watched these shows). He was being pushed around all series and just gets in people's way but stick to his beliefs until he gets Gattack. But he was being used all series so never thought for himself until the ends so I don't know how that counts as a character development.
Well, since Gokaiger premiered today, I thought I would make a topic about it on the General boards, as well as covering general Super Sentai/Kamen Rider/Power Rangers
