Hey hey TLsters. Hope your February has started well and the weather is too wacky where you are. 65 and sunny in socal... yes, it is nice. Two positive musical developments in my world recently. A venue withing walking distance of my apartment has reopened and is going to have occasional electroncia shows, saw Jel and Odd Nosdam there over the weekend. Sound system wasn't anything mindblowing but they have good beer on tap so it was pretty good. Also a walkable distance away a friend of mine discovered a speakeasy that has a downtempo/trip hop night. It is kinda silly, you have to be on a mailing list to get the secret password to get, but still cool to be able to drink in a place with something other than standard issue bar-rock-hip-pop playing.

Anyways, on to this week's mix. This one is pretty chilled out, a fair amount of it is beatless and the beats you will hear are mellow. A little bit of post rockishness thrown in to keep things interesting and beautiful. Overall it has a bit of a cold and distant feel to it and is full of quiet details and textures. Hope you like it.

Where in SoCal do you live? That speakeasy with the downtempo/triphop night sounds amazing! I'd love to go to that.

edit: Again I see some artists I like in there (looking @ you Nosaj Thing), I'll definitely give this a listen! Pretty cool that you included Castles as well

downloaded and will listen&comment later, but 160kbps mp3 is not that great quality you should at least encode it at 192 (the best would be v0 which seems to be the standard now on music trackers like what.cd).

Overall my favorite electronica is still the mid to late 90s stuff from FSOL and the Warp label (Aphex Twin, Autechre, Two Lone Swordsmen, etc). Though these days I'm really into the Los Angeles Low End Theory scene which centers around the Alpha Pup and Brainfeeder labels (guys like Flying Lotus, Nosaj Thing, Free the Robots, etc).

I know I know.... When I started this the file limit on both mediafire and mixcloud was 100mb, which is too small for 80+ minutes at 192, so I went with 160. Mediafire's limit is 200 now but mixcloud is still at 100... I guess I've just been lazy about it and continued to only produce the one file. I've been hoping mixcloud will up their size and allow for higher quality uploads, but I guess I should make a higher quality version for the downloads.

WOW! thanks for this, that sounds so amazing! If I lived in the LA area I would seriously go every Thursday. I live in San Diego, but I will definitely try to make it up there some time in the future, and I'll definitely let you know if I go! Signed up for the email list and stuff.
