weekly electronica mix 7 - classical

This week's mix is made up of tracks that feature samples of or instrumentation along the lines of western classical music, most prominently string instruments. I've been wanting to make this mix for a while and finally rounded up enough tracks to do it. (Even though my mixes are all under 90 minutes I don't start on one until I've collected 2 hours worth of songs to be sure I have enough.)

I've always been a fan of songs like these. The first time I can remember encountering such a track was the Automator's loop of Pachelbel's Canon in D on the Dr. Octagon album. I can still remember how happy I was when I discovered the instrumental version of that track was double the length... so fun. + Show Spoiler +

That track didn't make it in to the mix though, and nothing that did is quite that overtly obvious in terms of sampling. If people trained in classical music can identify samples in this mix I'd love to know about them.

I'm really happy with how this one turned out, I hope you enjoy it too.

Ha, nah man I don't even think I could sell them. When I listen to mixes by artists I admire I realize just how far I have to go and I'm terrible at self promotion anyways. I just love music, I buy and listen constantly and am always looking for connections between tracks and digging up hidden gems. These mixes are my way of expressing the things I discover and want to share. It's the college radio show I wish I still had, free to all. Thanks for listening, glad you like it!
