This week's mix went through a few iterations before reaching this final form. When I started this project I had placed the restriction on myself that I wouldn't use any artists I had used in previous mixes. This meant I had to leave out both the Blue Sky Black Death and Coppe tracks when I was narrowing down my list of songs.

I picked the songs, struggled through fitting them together, exported the mix... and hated it. It didn't open well, didn't flow well, and several transitions felt forced. I replaced a couple songs with others, moved things around, reworked the whole thing, exported... and hated it. I had the sequence from the Lineland track to the DJ Food track together and loved it, but I couldn't get anything before or after the sequence that I liked that approached my 80-90 minute goal.

In the end I decided that mix quality meant more to me than artist variety, put the two songs in and it felt like everything fell together almost all by itself.

The theme for this mix is a flying dream. Many of the songs are meant to invoke a feeling of soaring and mixed in are some quirky sounds for dream weirdness. Hope you enjoy it.

This came from a demo a friend of a friend gave me in the early 00s. Trying to get in touch with him for a song title. Apparently he never got signed and no longer makes music. Such a shame.

Not what I usually listen to. (I'm more of a hardtechno person), but at the same time its very nice, good background music.

And excellent selection, you expressed the 'flying dream' feeling very well

I use Cubase AI4, which I got for free when I bought an portable audio recorder. It is overkill for what I'm doing at this point but I'm hoping I can grow into it and do some more complex stuff as I learn it.

In the past I did some mixes for friends using audacity. It is free and if you just want to line up some tracks, adjust volume and output an mp3 it is sufficient. I recommend using the beta version, it runs a little slower (or did the last time I used it) but gives you a little more control.
