Over the next 23 days (now 6 days) I will make my journey from the lowly lows of Bronze league to Diamond league.
This as been my goal since I picked up SC2, getting to diamond league. I just began playing 1v1s again after playing about 20 upon getting the game at the midnight release. I told my friends that the reason I wasn't playing 1s anymore was because I wanted to wait until Christmas Break. They further questioned my reasonings and I told them "Diamond over break, baby" the time has come to prove myself. Over the 23 days I will be playing a minimum of 10 games a day, probably a lot more, in hopes of reaching Diamond by January 9th 2011, the last day of my break.
Each day I plan to update this blog letting y'all know of the days happenings, SC related and none SC related business. I believe I can do this so any advice and cheering on is appreciated.
Day 1:
LWWWWWLWWL
Started off the day with a loss... That's always fun. The last loss of the day I played against Protoss, my best match up, and I was proxy 2 gated on the good ol steppes of war. Now, never having seen this before I panicked a little, but did remember that pulling all drones off the line would ensure a loss. Where I went wrong was not pulling any off the line. I was greedy and tried to get out roaches before lings and ended up losing. This was my first loss against Protoss since playing 1v1s again.
Day 2:
LWLWLWWWWW
I am tired... I did not go to sleep until 8:30am because my friends and I skyped our friend in Ghana at 7am. Anyways I slept from 8:30am-4:30pm and woke up feeling like junk and surfed TL until 6:30pm when I went to a waffle place with some friends, it was nummy, all I had had since getting home from school, the 17th, was Cup Noodle's and Top Ramen, sooo it was a relieving meal. I then came home and slept through "How to Train Your Dragon" (It's a really good movie, I had seen it before, watch it if you haven't). Then I proceeded to play 10 games, just finishing. I was playing like crud the first few games and after my second win I got PROMOTED to SILVER but still one step closer to my goal. Played a few games that went long that I should've ended early (roaches v banshee is not the best match up), but still winning. It was a prettie good day overall and I'm beat so i'm going to hit the sack. peace yo.
Day 3:
WLWLWLL
Well guys... I decided today not to open with my traditional 7rr. I basically went only roach hydra, and only lost to 1 Zerg and the rest Protoss. The Protoss games I let get out of hand, I didn't attempt to keep them from getting bases at all and I just let both of us get to a 200/200 army. I didn't really know when to attack or anything. I scouted and such, but apparently it didn't do anything. I only played 7 games because I was drained, and my self esteem took a hit as well. I can macro prettie well and know a lot about the game just executing was fail. If anyone would like to get in game with me, look at replays, or chat just PM me.

Day 4:
WLLLWWLWLW
Even! and I started off with a W! lol. Not the best games today... the last loss made me laugh super hard. I was goofing off with friends most of the day playing 3s and 4s and customs, which I guess isn't the best thing to do before playing 1s. But hey, got them in and stayed even, which I guess is the best you could ask for. Beat a few golds and lost to a few silvers lol. Hopefully tomorrow I play better. Also my diamond friend told me today that I was playing with mouse acceleration... whatever that means and turned it off, felt weird playing at first but got semi-used to it. peace yo gl hf ^^
Day 5:
WLWWWLWLLW
Well TL, I feel like most of the people following this blog or have read this blog don't like me... It makes me sad. But that's ok! I set a goal for myself and I am striving to achieve it! Got around 3.5-4 hours of sleep last night then had to help my mom out with something that consisted of me sitting in a car for 2 hours and signing something and then sitting in a car for another 2 hours. So I prettie much felt like crap today... (and poo! I just remembered my Cup Noodle that I made and hour and a half ago! argh!) Anyways, I then just at sat trying to make my head stop hurting and then played some games. It was a good day to play SC2 I played many many different strats, I mostly played some really sweet macro games, I 12 droned rushed 2 T's, and I 7rr a P and a Z. I learned FEing against Z isn't very smart when you're incapable of defending and I learned to be a lot more aggressive against P, I also baneling busted a T for the first time. Lol, that reminds me. I made 10 banes and then proceeded to press the "blow up" button and they all blew up, I lol'd so hard, I then went on to make more and win. I saw IdrA 12 drone rush that one guy tonight and thought... "I should do that" so I did and it worked, though the second time it was an 11 drone rush and I died... My last match was weird.... I 7rr'd a zerg and he went slings, I killed a lot and then proceeded to run by the rest to his base and he went into mine. I brought all my drones and started to kill his stuff and he killed my hatch so I thought "well... I lost." and gg'd but I thought for a second and just kept killing his stuff and then was about to leave when he said "no gold" and left! I was like "whaaaaa?" But! I exited the game and got PROMOTED to GOLD! T'was funnie, I'll post replays if asked. Anywho, peace. (Cup Noodle still good! ^^)
Day 6: Today I decided to take a break from playing, I will resume playing again tomorrow! Thanks to everyone for support and I wish all of you gl in your laddering!
Day 7:
LWLWLWWLLW
First of all... Merry Christmas! or Happy Holidays! Played like crap today guiz.... Lost to a T that didn't wall off, I was embarrased... My macro in all the games I felt was prettie poor. I got poo'd on between the 9-15 mark everytime... It's k I stayed even, and have tomorrow to look forward to! I hope everyones holidays are fantastic!
Day 8: Guys, It's Christmas.... So... I spent time with the fam...
Day 9-18: I suck. I really have no idea where to start.... The day after Christmas my mother, whose house I was supposed to be staying at over break, had a hissy fit. My brother was leaving for my fathers and she was just freaking out at my over numerous things, so I was like "I'ma outta here". I proceeded to house hop around my friends for the next few days. I didn't play any SC2 for 5 days I think because at none of the houses was I comfortable enough to play, if that makes sense. I did however play A LOT of "Super Meat Boy", "S.T.A.L.K.E.R", and "Amnesia", Steam sales are the greatest. I did however play some team games, but no 1s. Then at some point I played 10 1v1's without even realizing how many I had played. lol.
WWLLWLLLWL
Yes I know I was negative... but what do you expect? One of the losses however came because I accidentley pressed "surrender" when meaning to press "unpause" (I needed my laptop charger). I am now at my Father's in another city. When gathering my stuff to leave I remember thinking "My Dad has wireless, I don't need to bring my router or my infinity-foot-long ethernet cord (Yes it's that long, I'm not even kidding)" I arrived to find he did not have wireless and I was stuck using a short ethernet cord, that falls out of my laptop if I'm not careful, on the couch. I will try to setup so I can play some StarCraft but I don't know... I am very sad that I have not come through on the mission I set for myself, but hope to play some 1s tomorrow because I'm jacked on StarCraft right now after listening to an interview with Day[9], the GSL starting again, also the Daily as well, and the release of "The StarCraft Bible". So ya.. That's my story!

I'm going to be following this, cause I'm bronze right now and in 15 days I plan to be diamond, we will see if that happens or not :D
|
Even if you are able to play at diamond level within 21 days, you may not get promoted that fast. Just saying. (for example, Ret was stuck in platinum for a LONG time).
|
Good luck in your endeavors! These could get interesting, I'll be sure to check up on this often. btw, what race do you play?

Thanks! I play zerg.

If you start playing and then suddenly getting stomped really bad, you know you're in the right direction. When i mean bad, i mean really really bad, as in what the f.. just happened.
SO don't give up. Think of it as, that's him, that's the guy i wanna be at the end of blog.

gl man. Starting from bronze to diamond could be very tough if ur having trouble / losing a lot in the beginning.
Would be really impressive by starting in bronze and working your way up to diamond within 21 days.
|
Well from your record it seems you are not bronze level, you are just starting there so it might not be that hard as for someone getting placed in the Bronze to improve to diamond in 21 days. So good luck!
btw. did you lose placement on purpose or just unlucky opponents?
|
Skill really go up fairly slowly, and with zerg it is definitely hardest to climb ladder with.
It took me a long time to figure out all the GAY SHITS terran and protoss can throw at you before I got to diamond haha, and still getting gayed a lot.
If you play protoss I'd imagine you can just 4gate everygame to victory and get to diamond really fast >__> but zerg there is just so much to learn.
I would suggest pick a solid build order for ZvZ, ZvT, ZvP, and start using them right away as it is vital to be proficient at them from the start(your opponents are worse so you get the freedom to try new things and explore w/o being punished). I'm really suffering from it right now as I'm mid diamond (1800) and I actually do not have a solid build order but only some vague plans which doesn't really take into account of how to counter my opponent's build choices well at all, and it's becomming very hard to ladder.

I sucked. lol. I only wanted to make zerglings. I took the next two months just playing 2s 3s and 4s. Now I have a way better game sense, apm is a lot higher, and I don't just make zerglings.

Right now I'm just using a 7rr as an opening and if I can tell I can't break them right then and there I retreat. It really doesn't hurt my econ that bad at all (hooray for for wood leaguers who can't macro). I really want to start 14 hatching or doing some sort of high econ build, but I'm scared to.

I really want to start 14 hatching or doing some sort of high econ build, but I'm scared to. all-ins / cheese plays are the fastest ways to get into diamond but once you're in diamond and hit a certain skill level then cheesing/1 base all-ins become less effective to execute. It's always possible to cheese your way to #1 in top200 region so getting to diamond is possible in a short amount of time. So in your situation who just wants to get to diamond and not become better (assumption) then go ahead and cheese / all-in. However if you like to do macro games which u seem to be affraid of then it will not take u 21 days (probably way longer) to get into Diamond.
I was luckily smart enough to re-start a new race (T) and focus on the basic mechanics. I was able to play Diamonds when my own were of that a gold level. Now I'm just facing 2200-2600 diamonds within a month and the differences are huge when you see the mechanics vs lower divisions.
You'll notice it especially if you go public custom games where sometimes you'll meet silver/gold players who are truly bad at the basic mechanics even though they know what to do.
So the goal to Diamond within 21 days is reachable but whether it's good for your play long term is another matter so you should consider carefully what you want to do for yourself.
|
GL you can do it.
Is it possible to get from Diamond to Bronze in the same time, now THAT I want to see.
|
I got from Bronze to Diamond in two days. Too bad I cheated and let my brother who's better than me play (I'm probably gold level bad average player myself). He beat a lot of low-mid Diamond level players in a row and after a loss my account suddenly got promoted from Bronze to Diamond.
Why I'm saying this is that if your true skill improves fast you should be raised to Diamond league pretty easily after beating high enough opponents.
|
Looks like you're getting hella wins. You should be at the very least promoted to Silver pretty soon, good luck man.
|
Good luck, but you can't rush these things. Experience counts for alot and if you're dropping games to bronze/silver players you wont be getting to diamond anytime soon.

Yeah 2k+ diamond as a zerg... if you don't have really crisp build orders dialed in you're going to get smashed hard. Nearly everyone plays timing attacks at that level. Doesn't matter what MU, every one has pretty tight builds nowadays for Z.

I used 5RR during my placement matches and placed Platinum. After that I started going eco-oriented play and lost a LOT and got demoted to gold.
Climbing through gold and platinum is hard when you're not cheesing. My 50% win ratio consists of smashing high silver-high gold players at macro games and enduring shameless cheeses that I mostly lose against. The same thing happenned when I started iccup a few years ago. Point being: a lot of lower tiered players are one-trick ponies with well-practiced all-ins designed to kill you around the 10 minute mark. Eco-zerg style starts raping face later in the game, so be prepared to lose to a large gambit of all-ins from players you are otherwise WAY better than.
|
Well... I'm about to start playing. I'm going to to playing macro oriented games today. Wish me luck.
