Facebook, I hate you. I need you but I hate you.
over the last 12+ hours or so, tons of people were changing their profile pictures " to a cartoon character from your childhood and invite your friends to do the same. Until Monday (Dec. 6) there should be no human faces on Facebook, but an invasion of memories.(FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST CHILD VIOLENCE!)"
whatever, it's silly, i don't care though. now i get to see old cartoons like doug and hey arnold instead of faces of people i dont even remember meeting. sounds good to me.
within the past 3-4 hours, theres been a backlash where everyone is now apparently required to put in their status about how they've figured out that cartoons wont help stop violence against kids and everyone who did it is a naive, lazy asshole, fuck them!
there's only one thing dumber than facebook activism and it is pretentious facebook fucks looking down on someone because of their Doug Funnie profile picture.
holy shit everyone is stupid and now i sound like a jackass even talking about it.
this is why i hate facebook. i really need to go on a defriending spree.
i guess i fell into the trap though, when i posted this status: alright, i get it, you all have figured out that changing your profile picture does not stop violence against kids and had to make an indignant facebook status about it. shut up you pretentious fucks, i'm having fun watching cartoons. sorry to have disturbed you.
a friend of mine made a good point. "it raises awareness. Okay, not a lot, but it's something for a very minor investment. People are talking about it, at least. It's something!
I went through your exact post though today. I was so frustrated with all the hipsta-facebookers that had to rip on all the profile pictures. They don't even realize that the whole point of the pictures is WORKING (kind of), as demonstrated by their angry rants!"
in response to the inevitable question: i cant delete my facebook because it's replaced email with a ton of people. my social life and my work life would suffer. it really wouldn't work. i need facebook but god damn does it get on my nerves sometimes.
Fuck you Facebook. You're just the worst.

would recommend some sport if you are stressed out about something silly like facebook

I find it funny how something so small makes you so bothered haha.

I feel for you, man. I deleted my facebook, and now I have no friends. But it was worth it.

So many ppl addicted to facebook that it makes them rage. Plus it makes them look like either creepers or ppl who give too much info out (pics, profile, contact info, etc).
Check facebook once or twice a week ... you'll be a happier person.

I had Facebook at the very beginning when it was only for a select few universities. I deleted it the second they made it open to everyone and haven't ONCE regretted it. You think you need it but you truly don't. And to be honest if you're only a friend with someone because you're both on FB then you two aren't real friends.

lol.
that being said i have absol moemon as my profile pic right now :3

OH
i've overheard people gossiping about stuff like "oh well i posted a status about how i hated my professor and then [random guy] LIKED IT. OMG HE'S SUCH AN ASS" or "yeah so i totally posted this status about [random shit] and then she liked it, she totally digs me"
i love people ^_^

I honestly feel the same way about those things on Facebook. If people want to do them, so be it. but its not going to help anything really. 99% of people are going to look and never even be 'aware' of the reason. If the people do become aware, does it even change anything? People know child abuse happens. Cartoons on Facebook doesnt stop it.

Someone's an unhappy bear.

seriously you are addictive to fb! I think it's pretty lame, its just a site full of bragging and other gay stuff, watch the south park episode "you have 0 friends"

^ I absolutely agree with this. I have a few circles of very tight knit friends, and we rarely (like maybe once every two years) encounter each other on facebook. I like to talk to my friends in person or on msn real time styles
Anyways I think the promotion where girls would change their status to where they put their purse and phrase it as "I like it on the table" was retarded. It was supposed to raise breast cancer awareness but all it did was give me images (good or bad depending on the person) about someone getting slammed on the table, and IMO generally objectified women more than raising cancer awareness.

I use facebook for only one purpose: finding out personal information about others.
|
I'm generally against using my facebook status and profile for activism. So I don't. I'm not a serious facebook user though, so if I were to change my profile picture, I would end up with a profile picture of Starscream for the next 5 years.

I think child violence is an iffy subject. I got beat on a lot as a kid. Probably because I had serious problems with authority and behaving. Half the time I feel I'd be a better person, if only I'd been beaten a few times more often lol. And I'm not saying this facetiously. I really believe it. :-\
Then I hear about kids who threaten to call the police coz their dad whacked them on the ass for smoking pot. But there are the stories of people beating their kids with bike chains and other horrifying crap. How to winnow the chaff from the wheat? Bleh.

I don't do anything on facebook aside from exchange message with friends and as a hub to work out parties, get-togethers and such with RL friends. This amounts to at most, a single login a day. I've gone weeks without logging in.
I got tired of stalking people with it a long, long time ago.
The site is really annoying and can be a bigger timesuck than TL. -_-

One of the minor perks of not using facebook :D
