Does anyone really think changing their profile pic to a cartoon is going to do shit for the kids? Really? If you want to do something, get off facebook and go physically help the kids. Your pictures are useless. It's actually quite fucking insulting to the people who are going through this shit by saying "I'ma support you with a picture!" Btw, am I doing it right? I posted that exact same thing on Facebook hoping to get some people mad and all I did was get a bunch of thumbs up for that comment. I also put a picture of Homer choking Bart as my profile pic =P. I do think it's insulting for everyone to change their profile pic to raise awareness? LOL What the hell is that gona do?

really im just surprised this got 48 responses. i was expecting 3 or 4 or something. facebook is fine i guess, it just offers idiots the opportunity to advertise just how annoying they can be.

I think that the child awareness thing is not so much about raising actual awareness....but was more of a fun thing that friends were doing together. To be honest, most people saw awareness as probably a side effect of everything. I end up just ignoring the people who act like idiots and arrogant prickheads....I could care less about their opinion at that point.

I get worked up about this sort of thing sometimes... like slactivism and the pretentious backlash... but then my cute new wife tells me everything is a-ok and I chill out.

In all seriousness though, it seems to be working exactly as intended - raising awareness

Yup, it's just a way for people to feel like they're doing something to help something they can't help. (It's like internet prayer!) It's kind of silly, but whatever. There's no reason to get pissed about it. I keep Facebook around because I use it to talk with people from home, and it's a good way to get the word out/hear about events. Whenever my friends and I want to organize something between 5 or 6 of us, using a Facebook message thread is a really good way to do it (though e-mail works for that, too). also, right now my profile picture is a Kadabra for "favorite pokemon month."

Someone coined the term "slacktivism" to describe it. It is a big circle jerk. It makes the people involved feel better about themselves and allows them to feel like something is being done about the problem without them actually doing anything. So although they are doing SOMETHING about it, the only people it benefits are the people it already isn't a problem for. i.e. it's just a massive circlejerk to make people think they're doing something good when really theyre just sucking each other off. Idiocy spreads quickly on facebook and people love to take it right up the ass. By the way, if you get cancer and survive it it's because I put a ribbon sticker on my car. You're welcome
